I'm not going to say that Tennessee State percussion section has fall off but in comparison to the percussion sections in the past it does sound a little off and slightly not in sync. Alabama A&m definitely won this one

I’m going to give to the bulldogs here. I was expecting more from tsu but the bulldogs was a nice surprise. I think people are being over critical about the smiling. The bulldogs quads were definitely better

Okay. I wasn't "WOWed" by either section but I'll explain what I mean shortly. AAMU is not the STIX that I grew to love from the 90s and early 00s. That being said, I'll evaluate where they are now. Overall line is actually pretty good. I'd even call it very good. The sections seem to be established in their roles and carry them well. Snares carry the melody, basses keep the pocket, etc. AAMU- Snares (8.5) More visually satisfying than TSU Tenors (7.5) Timid playing. Quads (8) Not much overly positive or negative. Solid. Basses (8.5) Very good posture, presence and confidende Cymbals (7.5) Not much seen Overall presence- 8.0 (Took off 0.5 for smiling. You can't do that in a battle) Balance- 8.5 Degree of Difficulty- 8 Overall score- 64/80 TSU- I heard about how they were the standard of chopping back in the day. I keep seeing flashes but not flat out what I want to see. I feel like I should be getting more out of this section. I want to see them flat out disrespect a line with their chops. Speed, hybrids, complicated sticking, visuals, counterpoint...throw it all at me. TSU- Snares (8.5) Not as visually appealing but more intricate parts than AAMU Tenors (8.5) Very together Quads (8) Nothing overly positive or negative. Solid. Basses (8) Solid presence. Cymbals (7) Decent but failed to lock the pocket every now and then. Now as as together as other sections. I sensed some timidness as well. Overall presence- 8.5. Balance- 8.5 Degree of Difficulty- 8.5 Overall score: 65.5/80 Final score: AAMU- 64, TSU-65.5. Neither line was a slouch. Both lines did well and neither had a bad performance. I think AAMU's presentstion was better but TSU's material was better. Both had solid lines. AAMU's weakness I think was Cymbals and Tenors. Didn't get to see much Cymbals but the Tenors didn't seem to bring much power to the table. They seemed timid in their playing and not a good thing when you have a more powerful approach. Also. AAMU never ever ever smile when playing. I gave their presence an 8.5 until I rewatched it and it was egregious enough for me to dock points off. TSU's weakness seemed to be their Cymbals. So with one weakness as opposed to two and with the more technical approach I give the win to TSU. Great job to both lines!

@Crowns Having the title "best in the SWAC" is very debatable until there's footage of him taking out MSD, WT, BCU, Funk Train, etc. Until then you're just the quint player for your school. If you manage to take out those heavy hitters then I expect you to be able to hold it together during a battle. No excuse. I'm sure he's a great guy. I'm not attacking him. But I'm just saying that's unprofessional during a battle. I know if I were on TSU's line I wouldn't have taken him seriously.
@DrumLuv232 жыл бұрын
@Crowns Dude....I'm seeing him talking during another cadence. UNacceptable. That stuff grinds my gears man. He'd have made everyone run the next rehearsal. I don't care how good he is. You're part of a team and that makes your team look bad. You just can't do that man. I don't see any other AAMU percussionist smiling and they've got some pretty good talent. This is college level.

@@DrumLuv23 material from both lines was not at a collegiate level. The multi tenor player from a&m was talking and smiling, drum heights from TSU was not uniform, and snares from both lines were dirty.

@@FragranceNewb LOL I've taught showstyle. I'm not talking about the tuning of the drums. I'm talking about them being sloppy and the easy material. On the collegiate level especially in regards to discipline and material, there should be a higher standard and this ain't it. A high school line can easily play their material.
