Historian and author Mike Bunn will discuss the story of the April 1865 Battle of Fort Blakeley. Using research from his book The Assault on Fort Blakeley: “The Thunder & Lightning of Battle,” Bunn will present firsthand accounts to describe the scale and chaos of the weeks-long campaign to capture Mobile, the last major Southern city to remain in Confederate hands.
Bunn serves as Director of Historic Blakeley State Park in Spanish Fort, Alabama. He is author or co-author of several books, including Fort Stoddert: American Sentinel on the Mobile River, 1799-1814; Fourteenth Colony: The Forgotten Story of the Gulf South During America’s Revolutionary Era and The Assault on Fort Blakeley: “The Thunder and Lightning of Battle.”
The program will be held in person in the Joseph M. Farley Alabama Power Auditorium at the Alabama Department of Archives and History in Montgomery. It will also be livestreamed through the ADAH’s Facebook page and KZbin channel.
