Great game. Hats off to Alajuelense for putting up a hell of a fight, and their home crowd was some of the most intimidating I've ever seen when the players walked on the pitch. Glad an MLS team is making it, but I'm also happy to see Costa Rica start to rise up as a CONCACAF powerhouse.

Alejuensa are some of the most rude and gross fans I've ever seen. They threw coins at the Impact goal keeper, and Dominic Oduro was under lots of racial abuse while there.

Michelle Ramirez Don't ever generalize. Some of the fans got definitely out of their minds when they were losing, however, not all of us responded in such a bad way. The deal with Oduro was that he touched his genitals while looking at the people and some people with existential problems started making those noises. I feel ashamed but we can't control everyones' decisions. So, FYI, we aren't either rude nor gross at all. We're very passionate fans with some bastards included, unfortunately.

+Jesa l Canada does not have big enough interest in soccer in enough cities, nor do they have enough big cities, to have a successful professional league. Canada and the US have traditionally formed their professional leagues together (NHL, MLS, MLB and NBA.) Only exception is American Football, because the CFL has been around for I believe over 100 years now.

You could tell the ref was scared to call anything and pushed the Montreal players to keep up the tempo as not to incite the fans. Montreal players are getting crap thrown at them from the stands and the only thing the Ref was worried about was keeping the clock running. 2 incidents where the ref should have sent off Alajuelense players for violent conduct and he didn't even give them a card. The last one being that stupid play where the ALS player literally studs up tackled the Montreal Keeper who was holding the ball.

Très bonne partie de la part des Costariciens. Que de talents dans cette équipe! Mais, l'Impact a aussi su faire bouger les cordages à deux reprises suite à de brillants jeux. Certes, les milieux de terrain de l'Impact n'ont pas été à la hauteur, surtout en attaque, mais l'équipe a pu quand même se tirer d'affaire et sortir vainqueur en dépit de la pression constante des spectateurs et de certaines décisions douteuses de l'arbitre en chef et d'un juge qui a omis de lever le drapeau sur le troisième but de Alajuelense. Somme toute, ce fut une partie fort divertissante quoique l'on aurait désiré un peu plus d'aplomb de l'équipe montréalaise. Je me demande maintenant ce que pourront faire les bleus-blancs-noirs face à une équipe mexicaine qui semble fort aguerrie. Je crains une avalanche de buts, mais sait-on jamais: ce serait merveilleux que notre jeune club montréalais remporte les honneurs de la finale. Sans compter que la saison est jeune et que plusieurs nouvelles figures forment cette équipe. Allez l'Impact!

I still think MLS is not a great league, is not bad but not great.... and the proof of that is that you can only win if you use cold weather against central american teams, for example DC United lost 5-2 against Alajuelense but they played Alajuelense in a very cold weather and they still haven't got the result that they needed, Montreal came to CR and lost 4-2.... they didn't win either the quarterfinal and the semifinal, they draw both but qualified because of the away goals rule...

Esteban Solis Montreal played at Olympic stadium, is actually indoors and has heating. Also, we are not very used to it either, as MLS season is in summer, so most of the season is actually warm/hot. Keep in mind, our fans do not throw trash and metal at the players. Im not trying to be rude or offend Alejeuelense fans, but tons of trash and coins were thrown at the boalie, Montreal players, and refs. Also, lazer pointers were aimed at players eyes. This is something I have never seen in MLS. As JCS said, the goalie was the main factor. Bill Hamid, DC's main goalie, was out for the first match against Alajuelense and Hamid is incredible (so far he has 3 shutouts in 4 games in MLS). Our backup goalkeeper is very bad tbh. I don't like away goals, but I do believe that Montreal took initiative to attack on the road more than Alajuelense. It is a strange rule, but there is a lot of skill involved in managing it. I think CONCACAF Champions League is a bad way of judging MLS. MLS has tons of parity and the teams are very few balanced. CR has less parity than any league Ive ever seen. There are 3 dominant teams. Sorry this post was huge... I dont mind your opinion though, you were respectful ^^

Daniel Newsome yeah you made some good points and you're right is not good that some of our fans threw stuff to Montreal players but basically the whole situation was with the refs and I didn't see the laser pointers as we're not allowed to take them into the stadium. Yes, you're right I think Montreal qualified in a fair way that's part of the game... Good luck in the final hope you can win the tournament against the Mexicans.... :)

Costa Rica should have had at least 2 red cards that game last night. They also should have had easily 6 or 7 yellow cards that were never shown. The ref gifted Costa Rica every free kick he could and he also allowed Costa Rica to play quick replays that should never have happened. Essentially the ref let Costa Rica do whatever the F they wanted, manhandle Montreal, complete disgrace from the fans throwing things on the field. This has no place, should have no place, and needs to change in the future for this competition to be taken seriously. Sure the score line says one thing but when you are constantly demoralizing the visitors with cheating it can happen.

Having a non-mexican team win would put the CONCACAF in CONCACAF Champions League Also, don't rule out Herediano, tbh I expect them to hold America off.
