Ok, this song literally breaks my heart. The entire concept of the song is so deep. The lullaby in the beginning is an old lullaby called "ili, ili" (ILY ILY), particular to a certain region in the Philippines, I believe. Not sure if it means "hush, hush". This is a song of abandonment of children, a growing problem in the Philippines, that because of poverty, Filipinos are forced to go abroad, leave their children in the care of other relatives ie grandparents, aunts, etc while they send money and boxes called 'balikbayan boxes' filled with material gifts to 'buy their love'. The song is a cry of many children who grew up, having the privilege of a good life, a good education but lack the loving touch of their own mothers and presence of their fathers, essential to a development of a child. The song is about the children talking to their parents, part angry and resentful for their absence, and part lonely and grateful for their sacrifices. Then the Alamat members singing 5 different Philippine languages... Like what GidKidDad said, it's SO different and experiemental. Because it truly is. And Brad actually hearing a Christmasy tone to it. Well, Christmas without your parents is one of the saddest holidays really. Many Filipino children experience that, not seeing their parents for years, up to a decade. People who don't even understand the languages in this song get it. That's the power of music. Ppop really is now the embodiment of literally breaking borders and stereotypes when OPM never even dared to sing other PH languages, but Tagalog on pop radio. The MV in itself is very artistic. There are so many symbolisms Filipinos will relate to. To make this into a pop song this beautiful is BEYOND ME. Pure musical genius and artistry showing the depths of our culture, both good and painful- everyone who is involved in this song and the entire team of ALAMAT, a job well done. It just doesn't sound good. It's eargasm and hits deep in your veins. The song touches our hearts, and it's inexplicable. What a MASTERPIECE.

Now that the internet allows us to reach them faster and talk with them, the feelings of abandonment and anger most children have has diminished but at times we cannot help but miss their physical presence. this song asks that we be patient for one day they will be reunited with their parents. the song has a unique Filipino lamenting vibe mixed with rock. This brought ili-ili to the next level. I never thought that this folk song will be interpreted in terms of a child's separation from his/her OFW parent. At first I thought "ILY-ILY" stands for "I Love You- I Love You". Pero after ko makita ang vid, I realized na pwede rin pala siya mag stand sa " I Love You", like an exchange of affection between parent and child. lowkey kpop fan din ako for 10+ yrs pero sa sobrang #kasmala ng alamat it only took 1 song from them para makalimutan ko pgkahumaling sa dayuhan --- no other than queen MAHARANI❣ang sakit ng kanta pero pinaka nagustuhan ko ung visual aesthetics nung MV tapos ung singkil na binase sa maranao epic --- i highly recommend watching the film making vlogs pati na ung reaction ni PH historian sir kirby araullo. grabe ! andaming aral 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 alamat is not called alamat for nothing. 😎 malayo na kahit malayo pa 🎉🎉 PADAYON PASULONG, MGA GINOO ! 🇵🇭 📈
