Alameda, CA's East End is a fantastic place to call home. Most people want to know what it's like to live in Alameda's East End. This is where I live and I'm excited to share it with you. It's really community driven and you will get to know your neighbors, see kids playing in the street or biking to school and people coming together in the parks at all hours of the day - (1:26)

There are a number of micro-neighborhoods you should be aware of as they all have their own vibe - (2:55)

Marina District: Small section along the oakland estuary. Some of the homes have deep water docks. Its fairly isolated and very private feeling.
It's also very easy to get off the island on high st and Fruitvale
The Fernside: It consists of mostly larger, well built homes from the first half of the 20th century. It's considered an “affluent corner” of Alameda because the homes typically fetch higher prices. You aren't going to find many multi-family or cookie cutter homes here.
East End: Lots of smaller homes situated on quiet tree lined streets
Victorian to contemporary with an emphasis on the California Bungalow and craftsman
East Shore: this is another narrow and private neighborhood that borders San Leandro Bay. It's very quiet and peaceful. The track was built in the 60s and consists of mostly single level ranch style homes.

Hans - Your #1 reason is spelled incorrectly. It should read, “Safety”. I still get homesick, even after 40 years. I graduated from Encinal High School and lived on the West end. A few years later, I lived in a wonderful Victorian on Lafayette St. After that, I lived on Willow St. across the street from South Shore Center. Awesome city!

i was born and raised on 1628 Broadway, born in 1939, left Alameda in 1958.

very expensive, I was raised there lived at 1628 Broadway, it has a tag of $1,250,000.00 now for a home that's really old but has been updated. My Mom bought it for $8,500.00 in the 30's, I was born in 1939.
