I was never really into these instruments or this kind of music until I heard their Eastern Energy album. Then I bought an ehru.

Alamuhan is an Uighur name (Almıhan). In the lyrics; "She lives at 300 miles west of Turpan" which is the Kyrgyz and Kazakh border. "Her brows are like crescent moon" which is a popular beauty definition amongst Turkic people (but not only they use them of course). Melody is similiar to the ones that can be found even in Balkans or western Anatolia (Turkic) So I'm guessing that this is not a "traditional" Chinese song, but an adopted one from Uighurs. Here I found an Uighur example of the same melody: watch?v=kwwN6olvT34 However; it is of course possible that Chinese people wrote this song as an affection to a mythical Uighur girl. Does anyone have any information on this subject?

The Uighurs are islamic, so i doubt, gthey composed this music. It must be one of the Chinese People...with a bit of Western music, thrown in!
