Chorus:
And he bowed his head to Jesus
And he stood for Uncle Sam
And he only loved one woman
He was always proud of what he had
He said his greatest contribution
Is the ones you leave behind
Raised on the ways and gentle kindness
Of a small town Southern man

Ill tell you exactly where it went: hard work, Christian virtue, and honor are not held as ideals for so many, so there goes the music that stood for it. Good news is that you can still find this type of music, you just have to dig in the woods a little to find the people who sing it. Proud to hear our music is appreciated in France! - A Southern Man

This song was dedicated to my grandfather by the priest in their small southern town.. It was played at his funeral in front of 400 people. Family man, rancher, honorary director for Texas cattle raising association, county commissioner, county judge, man of the year in agriculture, POW korea, but most importantly, my grandfather. This song warms my heart and make me smile so big every time I hear it. Almost like it was written for him.

This song reminds me of my grandpa. He was a small town boy from Michigan. After he graduated high school, he married my grandma and had my dad, aunt, and uncle shortly after. They relocated to California for my grandpa’s work. Even though he’s been living in California after all these years, he’s still a midwest man at heart.

This is my favorite Alan Jackson song. It's so reflective of how many of us grew up and where taught by our parents, grandparents and other family. To be hardworking, honest, humble, and love your family, love your wife or husband. To put yourself second behind them. Support our country, respect and help others. To put your faith in God.

One of my best friends ever was blessed by small town Southern men: daddy, uncle, brother. My husband is a big city Southern man. A good man. There’s a difference. I’m jealous, but I’ve benefited from her wisdom framed by the small town Southern men in her life. Thank you for this song. In the heart of country music land, A voice rings out so clear and grand. With his cowboy hat and guitar in hand, Alan Jackson's the name of this southern man. His twangy voice, so smooth and warm, Sings of love, heartbreak, and life's many storms. He paints pictures of small-town charm, With tales of whiskey, women, and farms. From "Chattahoochee" to "Remember When", His songs take us back to where we've been. He's sung of angels and the devil's sin, And captured the spirit of Americana within. With over twenty albums to his name, Alan Jackson's legacy will always remain. A true legend of country music's game, A shining star in its hall of fame.

Hold true to your values and thank God everyday for what you have. Liberalism and political correctness are not what this country was founded on. Hard work, self reliance, individual responsibility, family, and faith in God - these are the keys. Good luck to you young man!

From Ga here, Fuckin' Luke bryan has made country turn into Pop. All the dumbasses can't even see that it's just pop music. There's no story, it's all sex appeal. When I hear music, I want to feel the music and the story. It's all about the emotion that is instilled from a song. I'm not a big fan of country, but this is the real shit. A man telling a story and instilling emotion among his listeners.

So wonderful that you, as Nigerian, can hear the love in the voice of an American man for his father. Our cultures should not be far apart. Alan could not sleep after the attack on the World Trade Center. Pop music wanted him to change a lot of his song "Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning?" Make it more pop instead of country so that pop agencies could make more money off it. He didn't care about the money. He would not back down and he would not change the song. That is courage.

We love you Alan from Egypt!!! Country music isn't just western, the American dream is mankind's dream. Thank you Alan, I hope more artists like you taught the world to love each other and respect each other and our differences.

I was raised in a medium sized town, we all knew each other though. Grew up and spent the last 12 years in a small town raising grandkids on a farm. When they complain I tell them to hush, their living a dream. They got animals, woods, hunting, playing. Ya, farming's 24/7, but it's a lucky person who can do it. Covid hit me hard, homeschooling bent my back, can't run my moo cows anymore. But I'll be damned, I'll get some calves as soon as I can unbend my back and walk again. Once you live this life you'll never look for or want another. Blessed we are, not rich, but blessed. How many people can sit in a hunting stand all day, never see a deer, but see the beauty of an owl turn its head completely around on a perch for a hunt, then take off silently, or watch a flock of turkeys strut in? Beauty surrounds you, even in a city, but you gotta be ready to catch the glimpse when God offers it. May you all see the beauty of a sunrise on pristine snow and ice, or a full moon shining on that ice. Thank God your here, your free and we have each other.

Bless You!!! Small Town Southern Man is my memories of how I was raised. My Daddy and how we were raised and the brothers I had. How I raised my Son's. My Brother was reaching for the Angels a day before he passed in the hospital. You take me back ...

+Jacob Jancsurak even the guys you cited don't use fiddles anyomre, this kind of country music is gone forever unless Brad Paisley and Easton Corbin go back to their roots and start recording this simple fiddle driven country music...

Wow. This is one I'd not heard before. The talent of Alan Jackson just goes on, and on....simple, heart felt, beautiful. Great video, too.

I am a huge fan of Mr. Jackson. I’ve even chatted with him on TS. What I love about this video is the generations it spans through the course of the video. He always writes and sings songs from the heart. Thank you, Mr. Alan Jackson!
