@Barry Foster I don't know his Dad's DoB but this was shown about 1995 so even if he had been born in 1900 it would have been possible. My favourite celebrity-parent-you-wouldn't-have-expected-to-still-be-alive-then trivia is the fact that George Formby's mum didn't die until 1981.
@hugodrax715 жыл бұрын
+Bodragon It's true. Moore revealed this story during an interview for an Empire podcast in 2012. He said his father told him off for not appearing on a chat show the previous night. Moore asked his secretary what his dad was talking about and that's how he found about this Alan Partridge episode. Moore found it very funny.

I LOVE IT when someone criticises and is rude .........and they are COMPLETELY WRONG..... " Moore only found out about the scene after his father reprimanded him for the no-show. The delightful anecdote was shared Empire magazine features editor Nick de Semelyn, who interviewed Moore for a 2012 podcast. On the show, Moore recalled: ‘My father said to me, "You know I’m very disappointed in you, son." ‘I said, "What’s that?" ‘He said, "You were supposed to be on television last night but you never showed up" etc etc..... SO ONE QUESTION TO YOU..............How do YOU feel having mugged yourself off ? :)

The interesting thing for me in this brilliant clip is even though Alan has been his abnoxious, rude and ignorant self, however when he fights back against the guest on his show critisising him the audience is immediately on his side. Partridge is so well loved..
@Kelly14UK5 жыл бұрын
I think that's why it worked. He's a pompous conservatively minded middle classed tosser, very often, but sometimes we feel sorry for him, and we've all made mistakes. So when he comes out fighting eg "Needles to say" ( a classic), we find ourselves rooting for the guy.

@@Kelly14UK Exactly. That's the brilliance of the character. As big a knob as Alan Partridge is, very often the 'guests' on his show were so unpleasant and obnoxious, as much as Alan makes an ass of himself, you're rooting for him to hit back at them by the end of it. It was never just about taking the piss out of your small-minded Little Englanders; it took shots at the entire media industry and the self-important people who often occupy it, right-wing and left-wing alike.

Yes, and as much as I loved the ebullient Jeremy Clarkson....I noted how he used phrases I had heard prior, from other people. In particular in relation to helicopters and their less elegant means of flight than an aeroplane...he remarked about helicopter rotors “Beating the air into submission”. A very Jeremy sounding observation, yet I had heard it before and was disappointed that he was not being....original.

I love the anecdotes about this show...Roger Moores dad of course and I believe lovely Doon was like 5 months pregnant here...this is a PERFECT PERFECT continuation of the radio show and its amazing to see the guises that the cast slip into every week. Yeah the Mid Morning Matters stuff was great and the latest TV thing was.... OK... But it's like trying too hard... Maybe it's just because I got into Alan from a friends older sister(I had a crush) when I was young and remember watching IAP season 1 when it came out, but the movie and the'One Show' version just doesn't do it. But hey, we always have the classic Alan. And tbh MMM Is exactly how I imagined an AP radio show to be when I watched all those radio segments and deleted ones back in the day. Oh and as someone who used to work in radio, I have to give props to Coogan for getting into it properly. And praise to Coogan for getting into Courtney Love properly too. It's too late now but she was just right on the perfect boil then 👌
