Cambelt Replacement Ford Mondeo Mk5 2L Diesel.
This is the second video i have made but this one the engine is out of the vehicle whereas the first video the engine was in the vehicle but the main point of this video i can clearly show the flywheel timing pin hole through the engine block.

This is the best video about cambelt replacement in Mondeo mk5 I found on the internet.I'd say it is a follow up the one where Alan showed on the car. There is one IMPORTANT thing I'd add for people like me (amateur mechanic) as I did the cambelt change for the first time: after you do the whole timing procedure do the test, clean the hole from the old glue of crank pulley bolt and bolt it self so you can screw the bolt to the end with just your fingers, put just the pulley on and tighten the bolt with a wrench (just about 50Nm service manual). When everything is fine like on Alan's video, use a new ford screw which comes with glue on it. I used torque wrench and did as the service manual says, first stage 70Nm, second 110 degrees. It's good to find ford service manual on the internet and use their torque values for other screws as well, so you won't damage the thread, but it will be tight enough. Thank you Alan!

You're correct, you should never use the flywheel timing pin to lock the crankshaft for anything other than timing. Laser and other manufacturers make a flywheel locking tool which bolts into the holes for the starter if you have to undo the crankshaft pulley bolt by hand.

Does it have a corresponding hole in the flyeheel? _ Nope. Does it have drainplug on waterpump? - Nope. Does the camshaft fit itself in a position where it flex back somewhat to not stay center for the 8mm lock bolt? - Yep. Working with cars is wonderful.

@@alan4x yes i understand pal. I have a dewalt. 110v that has about 440nm do you think that is tight enough my belt kit (gates) came with a new pully bolt coated in loctite do you think i need more lictite on the new bolt
@alan4x
@alan4x Жыл бұрын
@@austinmatthews347 yes your gun will easily be good enough, the problem is tightening that bolt with all the loctite on it which will make the bolt hard to screw into the crank threads.. i would use a bench grinder wire wheel and remove all the loctite from the bolt, blow out any debris from the crank hole, and squirt some fresh loctite onto the bolt threads and whack it up with your gun

Looks like the same engine as in Mk4 Fords. You dont need to remove the engine mount at all. Just remover covers and you will see that they made space for removing the bolt/pulley in the engine mount. On the 1.6 TDCI, you must remove the engine mount, but not the 2.0 TDCI.

Love this video 👍. I'm looking for a piece of advice here. My MK5 shows P0014 - Camshaft Position “B” - Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance (Bank 1). Recently the timing belt and pump were changed. Now cold starts are still great but stop and start is slow to start - about 2-3 seconds. Does P0014 mean the timing is off tooth? Otherwise, the car runs really great. Any thoughts, please? ❓
@alan4x

yes the timing is out a bit....had this a few times, its easy to get it off a bit and thats why you have that code...the crank and cam sensors detect the timing is off..
@vitkolar
@vitkolar 3 жыл бұрын
@@alan4x Hello Alan. I finally got it fixed. The shop which replaced the belt and pump did not run a diagnostic procedure after changing the timing belt. It is called "camshaft position reference adaptation lear". This procedure is required when the new timing belt is fitted or the camshaft sensor is replaced. After this, the P0014 is gone and warm starts are fixed also. So this is maybe the first to try if P0014 shows up.

Alan, I'm doing this on mine today - a MK4 - looks near identical in what matters for the swap - including the floating crank pulley with the gap on the Woodruff. Running into what I assume is rookie errors like you explain. Timing pins not lining up after the revolutions. Can you confirm its same as you describe here, re butting the crank pulley against one edge, setting the belt etc? Actually looking forward to getting it right. It was out before I started, previous change like you say was paint marks, not taking into account the pin holes!

Hello Alan, I've been following you for a long time and I have a question for you. I recently had a timing belt replacement done at an Ford service center. It's for a Ford Focus mk3.5 1.5 TDCi. The mechanics removed the upper engine mount (under the coolant reservoir), and the engine was hanging on the remaining two mounts. Is that okay? Shouldn't they have supported the engine from below on the oil pan? Thank you.

lol, well in all my days whenever i have removed the engine mount by the cam cover i always put a trolly jack or stand under the engine for support..so yes they should have most definitely

Thank you. I think you can hear the flexible exhaust pipe now. So, I'll call the service owner tomorrow and thank him. :D@@alan4x

PS Alan, I think it would be a great idea for a video about how some mechanics don't support the engine during a cam belt change, thus damaging the exhaust, other engine mounts, hoses, pipes, etc. Greetings from Croatia 😀

they should replace that as chances are they caused it to break@@ivanove

Hello Alan, I have one more additional question. Should the motor be supported all the time, or only when removing the motor mount located at the coolant reservoir? The service manager claims the second option.@@alan4x

Thank you for the video. What is the mileage for the mark 5 1.6 diesel engine timing belt replacement?

Hi again Alan. Just wanted to know (with regard to my kuga high pressure pump job that I must still attend to), is that engine your doing the timing belt on an XRMA engine just like I have on my kuga. As if it is, I can remove the top timing belt cover without removing the engine mount. There is just enough room to wriggle out the cam cover bolt next to the mounting. All I want to do is just get it out of the way only a small bit to inset a shortend 6mm drill bit to set cam to pump timing. Wil I get away with it I wonder. Regards and thanks again Alan. Anthony
