Taxi hits central reservation and causes substantial damage to the offside front wing and suspension, i have calculated an approximate estimate of the cost involved in repairing the damage.

So with 170k on the clock of a 17 reg motor, that would have been a write off. The fact that you can do it, Alan, along with the fact that the car earns enough to make the repair made that possible. I guess a lot more secondhand bits could have been used? Great video, great skills, you should be proud of yourself, Alan.

Haven't seen the complete video, yet, but watching a few minutes I am surprised by the changes between this Mondeo and what should be my identical (American) Fusion. My base model Fusion has plastic wheel covers, a sure sign it spent time as a fleet car. The front grille is (apparently?) different, on American models the grille bars are straight from side to side, and not " stepped " IIRC. And finally, that plastic panel on the boot lid (black plastic?) was never a feature on American models, it's always painted body color. I almost forgot, my base model car has a strip of chrome trim along the bottom of the windows, higher trim models got more chrome all around the windows. Your car does not appear to have any chrome there, yet it has alloy wheels, an extra cost item on my car...strange?

Baring in mind you got your parts from the main stealer I actually thought it would cost more than that.. if the care earns enough for the company week on week then the repair costs wasnt too bad provided it doesn't get smashed up again before youve recovered your costs.

Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars, trucks and busses including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing petrol stations to only one state operated central gas station per city. From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.

An insurance company would have written that off, and yet it's not that bad a repair cost. It maddens me that they write off cars so readily. It just tells me they are lazy and inefficient and don't provide a service to their policy holders as the payout for write offs is usually very low and nowhere near enough to fund a replacement of similar quality to what got bashed.
@martinb2553
@martinb2553 2 жыл бұрын

@lucianc.5677
@lucianc.5677 2 жыл бұрын
They do all this write-offs because they replace the parts with genuine parts and not salvaged. Adding the costs of labour, this becomes financially inefficient. Is the people's fault as well because if you were told that the parts were replaced with second hand parts you would not be happy, especially with a 1-2 years old car. Is the greed and complaints of people which drives this. I own a hybrid version of this car and needed to replace a driveshaft. When Ford asked for £500+ for it, I thought is a bloody joke. Got myself 2 used ones for that money just in case, and the one fitted still going strong. Recycle ♻️ and reuse.

Nasty,nasty car. Squash it. Anything can be repaired, but sometimes -why bother? My Mum has her second Mondeo. The first one was a piece of shit.So, what does she do? Trades the green on in on a later silver Zetec 2.0. (Ghia? in NZ), but in any event, it has all the bells and whistles, with alloys and so-forth. Has overspray under the bonnet on RHS, and is missing the rubber steering column grommety thing on the firewall, which requires taking half the car to bits to replace. So engine noise and so-on intrude all the time. Has to have been crashed, hard. I used to own a collision repair business, and I'd love to know who gave the go-ahead to fix this dungbox. She has it serviced religiously at the Ford main dealer she bought it from, and it's nasty, noisy and horrible to drive. It eats tyres, and, given she's 86, you'd think that wasn't a problem, but Mama will INSIST on doing regular 640 km round trips to Auckland. I hate that fucking car. It breaks down all the time, and always costs the best part of a grand to repair. I want it dropped from a great height. Or something dropped ON it from a similar altitude. Cheers, all.

Quick question how come you use genuine parts? wouldn't it have been cheaper to have source after market parts for the suspension etc?

The MOT expired on 30th september 2020 on this car, do taxis not need MOTs where you come from?!!!
@alan4x
@alan4x 2 жыл бұрын
no, they have a council issued certificate of compliance, not a class4 mot

@@alan4x seriously? All the local authorities I know of here in Scotland carry out annual taxi tests but the vehicle must have a valid MOT before they'll do the taxi test. Can't understand how a vehicle can be used on the public highway without a valid MOT just cos a council says it's ok!!! As a mechanic of 45years, and the owner of a 2010 Mondeo with 234665mls (I've looked after it since 2012, serviced every 10k, money no object) bought it 18months ago for £250 cos that's what he was offered as a trade in, still find your videos informative. Keep it up.

@@garyc205 yeah, thats the way it is here but i will say that the taxis are only allowed to be used for hire and reward and not for pleasure, also the only people legal to drive them must have a valid taxi licence
