This is the most refreshing photography content on KZbin. No gear focus no "five easy tricks". Just following a really good photographer doing his thing.

WOW. Know your work for two years now - and with this funny video I can see you are also a great entertainer!! And you are... FAST! Probably the most important thing in street photography. Or... the second? You show why: seeing the POTENTIAL of a setting, a background and then you wait for things to happen, for people (or pidgeons) to appear. In other videos there is no waiting or sitting on the sidewalk. Just reacting - click! - and then moving on.

I like to have a go at street photography, but i am not sure i get it... I have just got back from Milan Italy and had my camera with me, i struggled a lot.. So i am asking as i don't actually get most of the photos i see on youtube and have no idea what your seeing or taking how would you like to do a collaboration with me a landscape photographer and see if we can do a video on the why?

Pretty good, I like how passionate you are. I'm not as patient as you are. I would ask people to walk past in front of that garage door and say look this way.. You'd be surprised so many people love getting photos.

This is fun stuff, Alan. I am not looking for gear reviews or editing tutorials from you, but I am a bit curious about your post-processing philosophy. You seem to emphasize the dark and light parts of your images for more dramatic effect. I wonder how much you look for that in the scene vs adding it after. I have enjoyed your photography for a long time and it’s nice to see your videos capturing a fun and playful side of street photography. Thanks!

Great photography with a very individual approach. It is a delight to look at your photography! While I do understand your use of the expensive Leica M10 Monochrome, I do not understand your choice of the eye-wateringly expensive 24mm Summilux 1.4. given your dominant approach to the images you make. You seem to use mostly (exclusively?) small apertures, so why not use a Leica m 24/2.8 or a 24/3.8, or even a tiny, cheap Voigtlander 25/4, which are much smaller and lighter? Now if Leica gave you the Summilux, then I understand, I would also gladly accept one for free, but if I had to pay, I would go for the smaller, lighter, cheaper lenses just mentioned. So why the Summilux? I am intrigued.

This is my favourite photography channel, it's informative and humorous which is the perfect way to teach. Over the years I've taken loads of photos in London and a few came out really well, and I'll be honest I didn't know initially why people liked them better. Your video about light and shadows helped to explain one of my favourites and now I feel better equipped to take more successful images. Off to Venice in October and eager to get dawn and dusk images of the usual canal/gondola/flooded square/etc, but now also looking forward to getting some more midday images in small streets with light and shadows. Do you have any local tips or info about Venice?

Enjoying the vids Alan, Always interesting and inspiring. One thing I'd like to see though is a demo of how your photos are processed. For example, in another video you said that while watching an expert process your images, he did it in a way you didn't expect, and in fact you "thought he was crazy". Can you tell us what you meant by that, and if you have any 'routine' processing methods you rely on.

I had no idea what an Alan Shaller was (no offense, I'm not in the UK) before coming across one of these videos. I have now watched all of them and I'm convinced I am a better photographer than I was 30 minutes ago. The last time this didn't go so well (watching MMA videos didn't make me a better fighter), but at least the stakes are a bit lower......

My dad lived in South Ken for years, Ensor Mews, Onslow Mews West and Bute Street. I always used to see Francis Bacon there, his studio backed onto Bute Street. Polanski's Repulsion was shot around there too. A nice area, back in the day it felt a bit like a village.

Have loved your style for many years, glad to see you on hear. One point that could be interesting to address is how you carry your camera. I usually carry mine crossbody with a strap that is attached to the left-hand side of the camera and to the tripod thread so that when not in use it's hanging where my right hand naturally is and it's facing down (a bit like a gun in a holster would I guess). My only issue with that method is that I'm worried it could negatively affect the shoulder of my suit jackets. Do you have any experience with that? Kind regards from Switzerland
