I feel like that's kinda the main theme of the series isn't it? Everyone has two sides, one they show to others and one that's hidden. For Shu is the most extreme tho, cheerful loud friend and mature father figure. Man I love Horimiya

Mannnn this episode always hits me. I had a guidance counselor tell me to think of a lower-ranking university because there was no way I'd get accepted to the one I was aiming for. I wish I had someone like Shu at that time - it would have encouraged me to try anyway.

The anime cuts out a lot of the manga content so that’s why it seems very side character focussed. I definitely recommend reading it after you’ve watched it
