I think that Morissette belongs to a different generation that need not change the world but rather change herself, and Alanis is a great exmample for that. She is always expanding and growing which is reflected in her music. We can not change the world, but we can change ourselves and become examplars.

I remember being 10 or 11 years old and listening to this song, over and over again, in my older brother's room, on an 8-track of the beatles greatest hits.. So mystical, and beautiful.. Nice cover, as well..

I have loved her since I can remember, her creativity is amazing. Ever since day one, she has made an impact on the music industry. She does a superb remake of this song. You can tell by her voice she believes in it, she loves it. Not just someone trying to mimic the legendary J.L.

Alanis being the best selling female rock artist of all time and having 7 grammy's under her belt under at under the age of 30 is pretty admirable. Besides she is such an artist her her own right. Just take a look at her lyrics to songs like "Still" and "Symptoms" not a typical pop star.

@lilstewie86 actually paul assisted in the lyrics since he too wanted prudence to come out. as most songs in 1968 john and paul contributed in various degrees. john obviously wrote the structure while paul gave his advice for john to accept or reject.
@MST3Kfanatic16 жыл бұрын
i think this is a great cover & i can't see at this date everybody not knowing who wrote what song, but better still think of the exponential(sp?) arc of songwriting sophistication that the beatles achieved in 10 years (1959-1969)that is unlikely to even be challenged, never mind bested.

Not EVERYONE feels the audience's adrenalin surge, amplifying the homage she generated here! Some can't identify the color indigo either, but it IS THERE nonetheless! I remember this was televised "live", on a bigger screen. There is a startling transfiguration, (watch her metamorphosis as she BECOMES Prudence: austerity melts into sublime realization) an aura of the spirit of John that she generates as medium, within an eyeblink shared with the audience. It won't be found in clinical analysis!

Appearance is the cooly controlled technician at 1:18, adjusting her microphone (some of this was subconsciously calculated as reasonable, professional, contrived effect). Facial expression evolves. After 5:00, once she warmed up, even SHE could barely contain her elation at nailing this so well! She went far beyond ANYONE'S expectations in a live performance, encountering something that rarely, magically occurs, moment when audience and entertainer connect, AMPLIFYING performance exponentially!

@TheFLASHHHHHHH for someone who says "life is very short & there's no time for fussing & fighting my friend" you're sure doing quite a bit of it. It's a decent version. I am not sickened nor am I blown away. I don't feel any emotion when I hear her sing it which is the opposite feeling I get when I hear The Beatles sing this beautiful song. Everyone is entitled to their own thoughts on this song & any other out there, I don't care how many times you post you are not going to persuade anyone!

she has served as a major inspiration to the female artist that don't pander to sex to sell art-again 7 grammy's , the biggest selling album of a female rock artist etc. As far as comparing to the beatles no-but again if you look into her past what you hear on the radio you will see there is substance-read those lyrics I provided. it's all in the words man.

@LoveBlainezz Alanis. John has a pretty ordinary voice-amazing writer ordinary voice. Kind of like dylan in that sense. Another reason I kinda dig The Alanis version is that I'm familiar with her work and think it's as lyrically relevant. Yes I said it. lol Seriously with songs like "Symptoms" and "Still" you can see that lennon and Morissette where like mental siblings.

@lilstewie86 excuse me....im quite aware of the different styles perse...their different styles enabled them to construct a songwriting dynamic which u see in from me to you, we can work it out and birthday all of which were collaborations of some degree.Was Back in the USSR primarily writtten by Paul...obviously. However was John consulted and contribute to some degree ...YES as paul as repeateled said...was it 30%? 35%....3.5%...we will NEVERknow..surely you don't....so why debate it.

And I am not one of those people who think that no one should touch a Beatles song. I was excited when I found this video, I love the Bealtes & I usually love Alanis.I was disappointed when I heard it. That is my opinion, it's not a fact! I do not expect to change your thoughts on this song or anything else! I guess what I don't understand is why you are so angry that some random person on KZbin doesn't agree with your way of seeing/hearing something.
