to this day this is the best live performance i've ever seen. the way they took an album deep cut fan favorite, tweaked and twisted it in a more minor darker way, and then she fucking caterwauled to the nth of her range to unexpectedly close the show. GOODBYE. i didn't see Tokyo, but i was at Dayton OH for Junkie Tour and this ending spun me out in such a way that i cannot even articulate. i was a HUGE alanis morissette / Garbage fan before that show, i was A LIFELONG Alanis Morissette fan after it. you can't even speak to how her voice and energy fills the space, it's wild.

Her vocal outro on this (4:19) is one of the most incredible vocal performances I have ever seen. There's something about Budokan with an artist's voice filling the space. Can't really hear it here because the sound is recorded directly into the mixer and not from the p.a. But, no wonder she saved this song for her final encore. She may have risked blowing her voice!

i will comment on how this is the best live performance of a song i've ever seen every time i watch this in the hopes the people of the world will catch on - NOTE - Alanis herself says Not the Doctor is the song that she least relates to and can have an emotional connection to going forward because she feels this song is disregarding her partner's experience and basically saying 'i'm not willing to do all of that for you' (counteracted completely by 'Bent 4 U' one of her other best songs no one knows because she doesn't put her best songs on albums for whatever goddamned reason) which i fully understand. When you're together, youre in it to win it or go home. Their baggage is your baggage now once you're salt-and-peppering super exclusive. but this - GUUUUUUUURL. I just wish she would bring it back - be like 'hey this is no longer my philosophy, but if you like me, this closer will fuck your life up' and BRING IT BACKKKK - SHUT IT DOWNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN this was such a killer motherfucking way to close a show dude.

Gary Novak actually played the drums for the recording of this album. Alanis and Taylor had parted ways 2 years before this. they just wanted a huge theatrical outro, he wasn't copying anyone, what a stupid thing to say.
