I love this song and the message the lyrics send. I’ve never heard a better description of parents who live their life through their children., Putting undue pressure on them to be the best at everything they do. This premise is so true especially in today’s society. The song is so relative.

"The first song to be shown to record company people, "Perfect" was written and recorded in twenty minutes. The version of the song that appeared on "Jagged Little Pill" was the only take that the pair recorded. Morissette improvised the lyrics on the spot, and Glen Ballard played guitar." - wiki Perfect - Alanis Morissette

This album came out when I was a teenager and I was going through it with my parents. I would have this song on repeat in my Sony discman and I would bawl my eyes out. She wrote and sang my life and so many of my friends. Thank you

Such an underrated live performance! She is so sincere and unique and human.

I love how she always makes sure to make at least one part of the song sound a little rough so it isn’t “perfect”

This song should be played before any parent is allowed to take their newborn home. Then played every year on their B'day as a reminder.

Living in Amsterdam when i first heard the album Jagged Little Pill....blew my mind all that summer unlike any of the other mind blowing substances available in that city, all of which pale into insignificance when compared to the experience of listening to that album.

This song is a gem, so happy to see her perform it. I’ve thrown out a lot of old cassette tapes but still have Jagged Little Pill. It’s worn out like crazy but it’s my favorite album that I want to treasure/keep forever❤️

I was walking in the Broad Ripple area in Indianapolis in early 1996 and on the sign of "The Patio" nightclub (doesnt exist anymore), it said "Alanis Morissette $5". Sadly, I kept walking. 6 months later she came back to Indy and sold 20,000 tickets to a concert. I wish I would have seen her at the club. Finally, I will see her next week at the same venues she sold the 20,000 tickets too 25 years ago. Alanis is so good.

This is how I learned to treat myself. Got to try a little harder...got to measure up...to make them proud. The problem is that you’re constantly putting on the mask of happiness while never achieving the ideal person you were taught you must be. It’s not good enough to make me/ them proud.

Don't particularly like the version, it's tuned for the audience that watches Leno, of course, I get that. It's overall too sweet and melodic, it's missing the voice beatings that are so well presented in the album version. I miss the 90's.
