BECOME A PATRON TO GET SONGS/TABS: www.patreon.com/coversolutions Played originally by Flea, so that's why there's many Flea style phrases. Quite complex, maybe improvised. Did my best with the transcription. Let me know if you have any question!
@Mart687 Жыл бұрын
Flea did the bass lines on the studio album. But he's not in the video of this song and I don't think he toured with the band either. They probably just asked him and he did. I'm guessing the bass line for the studio version was recorded in a couple of days. It's full of improvisation and it's got Flea's signature all over it. You can hear it's him. Complex like he's slipping in tiny solo's that change. But nice job on the cover. Sounds great.

apparently when flea originally recorded this, the producer said that he was wayyyyyy off time. thank god that the producer was able to craft it to perfection and give us this badass bassline
@BrandonMobley6142 жыл бұрын
Fun fact: the Jagged Little Pill touring band was Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters), Jesse Tobias (RHCP briefly), and Chris Cheney (current bassist of Jane's Addiction). Their live performances were a little more energetic than the drum machines on the record.
@suikogarden2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but this is Flea on bass and Dave Navarro on guitar which have made the song so awesome.
@mcsuibhne005 Жыл бұрын
I sincerely doubt they'd use drum machines on her record. It would be much more hassle (and cost )to program them for this song than to get a session musician. Where did you hear this?
@mcsuibhne005 Жыл бұрын
I've just checked some guy called Matt Laug played drums on the record track.
@MrClassicmetalАй бұрын
@@mcsuibhne005 Yes, Laug played drums on a few tracks including this one. A drum machine was used on tracks 4, 7, 8, and 11.

That song is masterclass in what basslines are. Sometimes the song needs you to be funky AF, sometimes straight 1/8 notes are all you need, and understanding that there are are bars where you aren't needed at all. Flea shows you how to do all 3 in one song. Bloody brilliant.

I believe the record is actually in F#, half a step down from the video. Of course, he may have his bass tuned down a half-step to play in "G". I haven't checked.

I have been well aware of how cool this bassline was, but I just put it together how that double-stop pop comes right after the lines "It was a SLAP in the face..." Very clever, Flea.

If I could play with that kind of precision, I could make something of myself! Honestly, you play it way cleaner than Flea does. (You can find the isolated bass track on youtube.) But his version is great too.

Great cover of a great song! Always found this to be an interesting piece because there's so much funky experimentation/improv in the verses but then it's mostly straight quarters in the chorus. Bit of a weird juxtaposition but very cool. One of Flea's best.

Ayer ví un documental en dónde comenta Alanis que el bajista de esa época estaba metido en el jazz y lo convocaron por error a la audición de la banda... Eso explica un poco las líneas de bajo de ese disco y al final fue un acierto equivocarse al llamarlo

Given the topic of the song, this bassline sounds like an argument with the vocals. Not with the melody but with Alanis and the lyrics themselves. Like the bassline in the verses/pre-chorus is the guy (possibly Dave Coulier?) trying to get a word in but Alanis’ words just steamroll him until the chorus hits and he gives in and admits that he’s a POS
