HK Go+Play is still one of my favourite speakers. Fantastic bass. I owned it once before I purchased Aiwa Exos 9. Too bad they haven't updated it at all. At the same time a sign of strength that a 6 years old speaker is still highly competitive. AND given its weight and power Tribit should sound a lot better.

I would imagine the profit margin is much greater on the tribit. You are right, given the weight the difference is less than i was expecting

There should be a new HK Go+Play 3 coming up in mid September. Most notable changes are (based on the video shared below): 1 amplified woofer instead of 2 x passive radiators (now a 3-way design), 60% more power (160W), almost 15% louder, automatic acoustic calibration via the 2 microphones, glass touch panel at the top, aluminum handle, better mesh fabric. The shape is similar, albeit a bit different and, unfortunately, the playback time is rated at up to 8h. Sorry if I got any details wrong. You can find more details about it in the HK product launch event video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m2mWY4RqjL-Mj8k

I think both of these speakers are great. It's a really amazing result for the Go+ Play considering it's age. Even now it's able to hold its ground purely in sound but no doubt the Stormbox Blast is the better bang for buck at this point in time with a longer battery life, newer specs, full waterproof rating, as well as the option of a higher maximum volume (even if it doesn't sound optimal). Everyone has their own sonic preferences. You present all the data to make it easier to choose based on individual needs and you understand (unlike most) that it's subjective. There's no one size (or speaker) fits all and if you like it that's what matters. Just one more reason why you're the best. Thank you for another excellent comparison, Alan! 😁👍👏

OK... that's the comparison I needed! 👍🏼 Thank you! I usually run the Go&Play around 40-70%, and I really wanted to test buy the Tribit, but it's permanently sold out - as it turns out here, to my advantage. I am still very happy with my Go&Play in 2022, there is no real reason to buy another indoor speaker of this size. For more power I run my old but gold Technics SA-CA1060 system from 1994 with a BT adapter. The MOS-FET amplifier delivers "just" 2x40 watts at 6 ohms, but in combination with the speakers it is extreme: 31Hz - 22kHz, 2cm tweeter, 8cm midrange, 14cm woofer with 18cm passive diaphragm - per speaker. In stereo mode half the room shakes, door handles and everything else that is not solid vibrate. Absolute technical masterpiece, often underestimated concept. But as a matter of interest, I have the new Nubert "nuGO! ONE" ordered, but will not be delivered until winter. Am curious what the device can do with ~ 1.5 kilograms. Nubert is known for enormously good soundbar and shelf. and floorstanding speakers, where even the bass never comes up short. :D Geilerweise is also AAC and aptxHD on board, although the development is not yet completed, so still the one or other change will come. live.nubert.de/nugo-one/a040893 "The nuGo! ONE heralds a new era: Nubert sound becomes mobile and will accompany you in the future on every vacation, on the terrace or in the garden. However, we have not simply developed a Bluetooth speaker, but a stereo system that provides good sound on the go. This is ensured by a radio receiver that supports FM, DAB+ and FM HD and thus works everywhere in the world. With 60 Hz bass and 24 hours of battery life, the performance is unparalleled in the compact dimensions of the nuGo! ONE is second to none."

@@DominikReviews Call me crazy but I came to like the 5.5khz dip on the Blast. With the right EQ, it's never harsh no matter what track you play, even the most aggressive ones. And since you can EQ around that dip to smooth the treble you can still get decent highs. You lose some clarity because of that dip but you also get a speaker that is never aggressive in the treble. Actually a flat on axis FR doesnt say much about a speaker besides telling you what sticks out and what sounds reccessed in the scheme of things. Of course we wouldnt want anything to stick out like a sore thumb or sound distant, so a flat FR is desirable. The on axis FR doesnt tell you how a speaker would sound like, far far from it. But measurements dont stop there, we have off axis measurements, directivity and dispersion at all angles, distortion, resonances, what reflections from a typical room would roughly do to the overall sound which is usually very accurate and compression which will affect sound after its 'comfort zone'. Harman and some others like Amir and Erin do all this not to define what a perfect is but rather to show if a speaker is actually broken in design or not. The speaker is always the weakest link in the system, so its always a good thing to have hard data on it. One man's neutral is another man's bass light, and that is why objective measurements equalize subjective views and give the reader/listener a better view of things, IF he or she knows to translate the data provided to their listening preferences. I dont doubt a flat FR and other measurements, I doubt the things like tgeFletcher Munson curve and the Harman curve because that was derived from a limited sample of humans that were tested on. As Amir and Floyd Toole said, even with all the data we have now that is measured on speakers, it only tells 70% of what a speaker would actually sound like, the other 30% consists of actual listening, hence the subjective portion of Amir's review is still alive and well till this day. No objectivist would dare say on axis FR is end all fak all, in fact much more importance is given to the listening window and PIR that usually correlates to real live listening experience.
@alanrossreviews2 жыл бұрын
What you been drinking 🍻 today? 😱 I have one test in the real world, my smile test 😊 we all have our opinions on what does and doesn't matter. If id spent 100k on a machine to take 2000 measurements and translate that via mathematics into anechoic equivalence id also say it was all you need know. Toole himself advocates listening with your ears as the main factor. You know my views on this, i respect yours while disagreeing. Again i make a distinction between compressed bluetooth speakers and high end audio. The limitations of Bluetooth speakers and the fact they are used mostly as a single speaker in different locations is why i disagree on a lot of this when evaluating them. High end speakers require very careful positioning for a lot of that data to translate.
@AbsoluteFidelity2 жыл бұрын
@@alanrossreviews i mentioned that Toole stated after all measurements provided on a speaker, the other 30% of listening is still vital. Someone that understands the data will never say that listening isnt important, its still part of the process. Extremists on both ends are what I dont agree with, it has to be a ying yang thing. Measurements help enormously, if you can translate that data on hand into real life listening. Ear dyno dont mean jack because that is totally subjective, relying 100% on measurements is foolish too. For critical listening, every degree you go off axis up or down, left or right is in the data, hence the term 'small' or 'big' sweetpot. I totally agree that for a bt speaker, all this dont apply as you can put the speaker in closet and still report back on how it sounds. IMO, on and off axis measurements would be more than enough to indicate what the speaker will actually do in real life. A lot more work but thats just me. Many of your charts show compression indirectly, simplified for the regular consumer. I still feel that more basic info like what a bt speaker does off axis would help them understand more about a certain speaker. I understand that needs more money and time but thats just my personal opinion. Your data has helped more than anyone is doing currently but things can always evolve eh? You are to me the leading bt speaker reviewer, fak Oluv.
@alanrossreviews2 жыл бұрын
wow well i didnt see that coming, i respect what you say so thats high praise indeed. trust me i have considered all this and havent dismissed it. I have speakers piled up here that i will probably never get to. I am just sticking to what is interesting to me and what most people are asking about. And trust me, i would not like to fak Oluv 🤪🤪

Which speaker would you get if you could only buy one boombox right now? I like bass but clarity and volume are really important. Motion Boom Plus or Tribit Stormbox Blast?
@alanrossreviews2 жыл бұрын
blast because boom plus has no deep bass and i love deep bass.

Harman kardon Sound hat a rich bass. But they nee to improve a better stuff. The no name brands are fuckong theu off complete. Just jbl hat now a bit of Advantage on The serie Party Box. But in a nearly future with be the same like the boombox 2 and the tribit STBBlast
