@ronkalinovsky68987 ай бұрын

@@ronkalinovsky6898 That’s not how shadows work my guy.
@superkaeldev8617 ай бұрын
@@nattybumppo4151That is how shadows work, in fact. It’s just that most light sources on earth come from small sources that are smaller than the object that the shadow is from, so their shadows seem to get wider at a further distance rather than smaller. As for shadows from sunlight, they usually appear to stay the same size because of how far away the sun is. However, in the case of an eclipse, the relative distances between the earth, sun, and moon, and the fact that the sun is bigger than the moon, cause a cone-shaped shadow to be projected onto the earth, and the spot where the shadow touches the earth surface is far smaller than the moon - only a few miles across.

You provided one of the few comments in support of the gentleman filming the event. 99.8% of the comments just show how shallow a mind with computer/cell phone and a data plan can be. It's called PASSION....the gentleman was PASSIONATE about the rare event he was witnessing. A total solar eclipse is a MONUMENTAL phenomemon. Most of these idiots are clueless to the perfect mechanics, geometry and timing that must come together to produce such an event. And to view it - from a commercial jetliner - is a truly awe-inspiring experience to which the gentleman was reacting. The fact that he was reciting the correct terms ("prominence", "diamond ring", "Baily's Beads") throughout the recording showed this is something he had more than a passing acquaintance with. Then again, some people get that excited about Game of Thrones or some similar mindlessness.

Having just seen a total solar eclipse in person, I can completely understand the sense of euphoria that this man feels. I got to see the eclipse from Dublin, Ohio and to see the diamond ring, corona, and solar prominences is truly indescribable. As I watched with my family, I was also doing play by play and cheering as if my favorite player had just hit a home run in the World Series.

Amazing! I'll be climbing a mountain today to watch the solar eclipse 8/21/2017 at about 63% coverage. It's not total, but it's going to be awesome! This guy is really passionate and I had no problem going on that "trip" of awesome with him. It's sad that other people have never felt this extreme feeling of JOY. Some may be completely void of emotions all together or they were brought up to stifle them. I would much rather be born with no limbs than be void of emotions. When those of us who are super-sensitive experience intense emotions it seems to leave a negative on so many because they just can't FEEL what we feel. I experience intense joy in many things people deem as not worth feeling so much for. And they wonder why they need so much money and junk to try and attain a temporary replacement for things that are elusive to them ... JOY being one of them. I'm not an astronomer and I'm not passionate about celestial events, but I have empathy and can live joy through him as if it happened to me. I'm addicted to the feeling in the center of my core. Once you find it, you'll never let it go. But the material world you need to let go of is too high a price for most.

Incredible footage! Well done! I've only seen a partial a few years back, but it was very memorable. But seeing a total solar eclipse? .... in-flight? ... it must be absolutely phenomenal! And I'm sure the video doesn't compare to seeing it in person. Very cool story too, enjoyed reading about it on the Alaska Airlines blog.

Sun disappear in the middle of the day. The sky become strangely dark and MOON become the darkest object in the sky. Then you look left and right in the sky and realize that sky has strange colour that you never have seen it before and suddenly you see the planets of the Solar System with your naked eye and you do realize once again that those planets ARE around us all the time - rotating quietly ... Heat level drops. And animals go quiet. Flowers closed itself down. Everything is quiet . You look at the Eclipse, thinking about LIFE ... with Sun and without ... And the mighty Sun comes back shining in its full glory! AND you never ever forget the sight , strange light around you nor those goosebumps you did have during that TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE. PS: I think people should observe Solar Eclipse event silently and in THE owe. Not screaming and/or cheering - as that noise takes out from the experience of being in harmony with the Mother Nature. You take it all in ... and look for the next one! :)
