Yes, Spring Brown Bear hunting on the Alaskan Peninsula is tuff. The rain, the sleet, the clouds, and yes more rain. I hunted Montique Island 4 years ago and wondered if I was going to even see a bear and was lucky to get a nice bear the last hour of the hunt, it takes a lot of discipline to just wait and be patient.

Alaska is like that right? Some folks think it's always a slam dunk when it's just the opposite. You just never know. Spring time is challenging enough when you don't know how long the cold winter WX well hang around keeping bears from moving far. Glad to hear of your success. That's a tough hunt indeed. Thank you for watching.

Hi Barney, thank you for watching. Anytime in the field anywhere beats being inside. Good luck in the field this season.

Nice bear, I thought he was going to shoot late but it worked out great. I was ready to pull the trigger center of the chest and second shot as he turned away. I felt like I was right there with you guys.

Thanks for watching. That was a tough hunt. Last bear hunt of 3 spring hunts we filmed. Late winter had bears denned up almost to end of the season. Tough glassing them in those hills as they disappear pretty quickly.

Thank you for watching. That season we had 3 back to back bear hunts lasting 6 weeks total. It was a cold late spring keeping bears denned up late. Took a lot of glassing and spot n' stalk effort. This hunt was an older Browning .375 H&H with 300 gr + loads.

Can you please tell me the difference between the Alaskan peninsula brown bear and the kodiak brown bear in terms of size and aggression? Also where does the kamchatka brown bear rank in terms of the above mentioned brown bears?
@AlaskaOutdoorsTV Жыл бұрын
I can't comment on the Kamchatka Brown Bear as I have not been there, one seen photos and they're big. Kodiak Browns are plentiful, and big on Kodiak Island. Alaska Peninsula also has a large population of brown bears and both are considered coastal brown bears. Peninsula bears probably see less humans vs. Kodiak browns. How that affects their behavior is really dependent on the bears personality. We've been charged by bears from both areas.

@@AlaskaOutdoorsTV if a kodiak brown bear was transferred to katmai would you be able to make a distinction between the two just from a initial eye test
@AlaskaOutdoorsTV Жыл бұрын
@@bobbyheenan99 No. I would not. All grizzly bears are brown bears, but not all brown bears are grizzly bears. The bears you are watching on the cams are brown bears. Grizzly bears and brown bears are the same species (Ursus arctos), but grizzly bears are currently considered to be a separate subspecies (U. a. horribilis). Due to a few morphological differences, Kodiak bears are also considered to be a distinct subspecies of brown bear (U. a. middendorfii), but are very similar to Katmai’s brown bears in diet and habits. Even though grizzlies are considered to be a subspecies of brown bear, the difference between a grizzly bear and a brown bear is fairly arbitrary. In North America, brown bears are generally considered to be those of the species that have access to coastal food resources like salmon. Grizzly bears live further inland and typically do not have access to marine-derived food resources.

Too easy on a sleeping bear. Really?

This was a spot n' stalk hunt. We followed this bear around for a while as we worked our way closer. Once he decided to nap was an opportunity to get within range then, we waited as who likes to be disturbed during a nap ;-)

@@ColossalSwordFormAndTechnique I hope so. I wonder if that will be called an "adventure" for the Bear? Not sure how killing can be called an adventure! When it's the Bear doing it, it's called "Vicious attack"!
