Alaska: Nelchina Glacier Ice Cave Snow Machine Tour

While traveling through Alaska, we joined Alaska Backcountry Adventure Tours for a snow-machine tour to the ice caves of Nelchina Glacier. It was a 40 mile round trip through snowy forests and over frozen rivers to reach an incredible ice cave that snakes its way through the glacier.

It was a really unique experience...I think the cave has since collapsed so we were lucky to see it when it was still there to explore. Alaska is an incredible place, everywhere we went was so beautiful!!

Thanks! We went to Nelchina Glacier in March of 2020. We met the guide and departed from Eureka Lodge, but the tour was arranged through Alaska Backcountry Adventure Tours, based in Palmer. We actually stayed at one of their cabins in Palmer and drove ourselves to Eureka Lodge. I'm not sure about renting snow machines at the lodge, we found it much easier to have a guide who really knows the glacier and provided all the equipment. If you're thinking about going, we definitely recommend it, one of those once in a lifetime kind of tours!
