This is my 18 month old’s favorite video. He’s obsessed with planes & we watch this almost every day, sometimes twice. Kid is happy & I get to do dishes without someone stepping on my toes. Win/win

I just returned from a week in Alaska, the first stint in Anchorage. My hotel was on Lake Hood and daily I took walks along the shore and watched (and shot video) of the comings and goings. Also a nod to the Alaska Aviation Museum which is at the southwestern edge of the lake is a must-see. The history of pioneering aircraft is on display with some great vintage aircraft. Thanks for letting me relive this past trip.

Great footage! I can see the Clarion Hotel in the background! Not sure it’s still the same name! Although I never flew floatplanes, we stayed there as SABENA Belgian Airlines crew on our way to Tokyo!. Enjoyed every minute of it! I got ckecked out for flying by Walker Preflight and did a lot of flying overthere! I will be back to get my float rating!!

dave Giter According to FAA Registry that is a Murphy SR3500 kit plane. Known as the Murphy Moose. Only about 120 of them built, it appears. Can be configured to seat as many as 6, and can have as much as 400 hp, tho most are 360hp. Considered a FINE bush plane.

Hmm. Landing with the water rudders down starting at 29:28 . I think those are supposed to be put down AFTER landing. If memory serves.

Fot those that don't know the site is Lake Hood, Alongside Anchorage Airport. Judging by the small amount of snow left on the mountains I suggest Late April or early May.

Prospective pilot here, just started online ground school. Do sea planes take off with flaps to over come some water effect? I can’t seem to take off from the water in a sea plane in the sim, but It looks like they have flaps at like 5% in this video, added lift, but shouldn’t they come up as soon as your off the water?
@roymills4153 жыл бұрын
You dont retract flaps while still in ground effect, the loss of lift would cause you to settle back down, flaps are usually retracted after you establish a positive rate of climb and turn away from the departure path, say around 1000’ to 1500’ AGL

You a pilot yet?
@leogosrjp4093 Жыл бұрын
@@MasterChief773 it’s for real expensive af, I have 4hrs but that was probably around 3 years ago, the 5year plan turned into a 10year plan. Lost my job during Covid, unemployed for a bit then some call center gigs, got a decent union job now almost 2 years in and at the 4 year mark I’ll make almost what an airline pilot makes. Plan now is to keep my head down and get that final huge raise at the 4 year mark then take a few months off get PPL and look at putting something down on a plan and fly private.
@MasterChief773 Жыл бұрын
@@leogosrjp4093 Congratulations on the union job and good luck with your endeavors. I’m going to school right now for pilot and when I’m done I suspect I’ll be close to 200k in debt, so hopefully it pays off haha. If in 15 years I’m making 250k a year I’ll be happy. See you in the sky!

Why do some of these planes have a length of wire hanging from the rear, is it an antenna?

Why can’t we have these on commercial airplanes? It would make me feel so much safer if we had to do a sea landing 😭
