@Rob Kuster we have plenty of water and a creek that runs right past our cabin. There was a we’ll just outside the cabin at one point right on the other side of the spot we’re trying to drive one. Just thought that having it inside the cabin would be great! We did extensive research on the property before purchasing. Although I would never tell anyone that buying land sight unseen is a good idea. We got lucky.

It is so important for people to hear all of the things that go with a self reliant lifestyle. I appreciate realistic videos like this very much. 🥰 So many people looking for the "easy" life, and think off-grid will be "easier"... it's not! It can actually be much, much harder than the job you leave behind. And although you can "afford" to lose a week of work from a financial standpoint, in other ways you can't afford to be sick at all (who is going to chop the wood or haul the water while you're bed-ridden?) But you're working for yourself, not someone else, so all the labor and rewards from it can be MUCH more satisfying. You really can't beat the feeling of self-reliance, but make no mistake... self-reliance is hard work!! 😊

Very good video, showing that the reality of homesteading or living off-grid is NOT glamorous. In many ways, you're making compromises so that you can live a different lifestyle, often working your butt off to do for yourself, instead of working to make money so you can pay someone else to do those things. I think there can be a different kind of compromise, where you're still a part of society, but not engulfed by it. To be truly off-grid, and thrive while doing so, takes a different level of commitment and perspective than most people have today. I know I'm not cut out for it, but aspects of it are very enticing and interesting.

This is a beautiful idea. I suggest you search your hacks on KZbin to get some idea making easier ways for water or temporary ways for maintaining . A relative once used a 1500 gal. Tank to keep some water. Then with small pump she had enough. It's watching how much use is done through the monthly filling. Of course she had a filling place , assuming septic is in. It's carry drinking water and tank was for other things. It was mostly underground set. After time she finally got regular service. She used treatment for a couple days when needed. Then that same water tank can keep animal care easier when done with home use.

Good to see folks demonstrating the real difficulties (understatement) of this life style; particularly since the vast majority of “off grid living” videos paint a somewhat rosie and one sided view. City life, country life, on grid, off grid; the bottom line is that there ain’t no free lunch.

Three years off grid and yes running water is the biggest issue. I haul from a natural spring a few miles up the road. Best water ever though. As much as it sucks lugging 45 lbs 6 gallon water tanks it's worth it. Yes, it takes years to get set up to live off grid. Took a whole summer just clearing the land enough to get building. It all doesn't get built all at once. It's a process for sure. It's awesome though. My land surprised me this spring with Morel, Mica Cap, and Pheasant Tail mushrooms!!

Great vid Brooke it was nice to hear from someone who's doing it "in the moment" I'm planning to disconnect myself, my electricty, and my water from the grid. Get a couple of solar panels and put up a water catchment system, maybe dig a well later on down the line. I'll keep hooked up till all my systems are in place. Then I'll only have the property tax to contend with and everyone's food. Much love from So.Cal.💟

Good luck to this family. I am sure they will do just fine. They have a large learning curve but they have the right attitude.

Brooke and 9252, GREAT VIDEO!! I have been binge watching Brooke's and Dave's videos. I would LOVE to do this BUT.... when I met my husband he had never even picked up a screwdriver in his entire life, was just graduating college and to my dismay.... decided against going to law school. Lol🤣😭🤣😭🤣😭. So..... I don't think I will ever be able to do it:(. He just isn't any help in that department and I am 54. Too old to start now. Lol He has never even been camping in his entire life. His parents just never were the outdoors type and so he missed out:( I will just have to live vicariously through y'all for now!! But, I enjoy doing it so keep it coming!! I subscribed to 9252 also🌞🌞 I have 3 daughters and I cannot imagine living off grid with them AND homeschooling them when they were young!! Hats off to you Mama. You are killin' it💞💞💞. You are giving them the most AMAZING life experiences and I can see how happy they truly are. Just AWESOME!! Thanks for sharing and I look forward to y'alls next videos!!🌞

We made the jump to buying a Northern Ontario property but had to rent an apartment during the winter. We are about to make the jump to the empty property in a few months and I know what she means about him being more worried. I am terrified. I know it will work out and the longer it takes to get there, the more money we are BURNING thru. Wife is more excited than I would have ever thought. None of our 3 adult girls want to come with us yet but will see in the future. Love the info and to know it is perfectly normal to do this. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the winter up here so peaceful fun and educational.

We lived in a house only heated with wood and hauled drinking water in but took wash and toilet water from a lake in Ely, MN.

Loved your video thank you...i want to live off grid as well, i am tired of the material world running my life, living free looks hard but my energies would be better spent mentally and physically. Great job to you and your family and stay safe. :)

Water,,, Maybe build or buy a large tank, Use the water shed off the roof to fill the tank,,, Could also build a pond since they have clay, Use that for summer showers,

It is so nice that the girls have taken so well to that lifestyle. Notice that they actually get outside and do stuff(outside and happy) building forts and things. I have a couple friends who are living similar lifestyles and their children are some of the most well adjusted, happy and respectful kids I know. Good for all of them being willing to give this lifestyle a try. Hope they all continue to develop more knowledge and skills and to prosper as the years go by.
