Interesting how both planes have similar wing platforms, aspect ratios, wing/fuse intersections, etc. Just minor differences. Laws of physics and economics have squeezed plane designs to similar configurations. As to “new” stuff, one the P&W geared turbofan and the 787’s composite structure are foundational new for the last decade. (even though the drew on previous thinking.)

@Johan Fasth 100% correct. Another example is the design of Concorde and Tu-144 although some, ahem, "borrowing" was also responsible. A more interesting comparison is Concorde and the upcoming Overture from Boom Supersonic. The designs are remarkably similar despite the almost 50 years separating them. It makes you realize just how much of an engineering marvel Concorde really was.

@@JC130676 I think that a better example of similar designs from independent design philosophies is how similar the MiG 29 is to the F-15, or the Embraer E190 to the Boeing 777. Completely different eras, different companies, very little overlap between designs, and yet the media still cannot differentiate between the two.

This is absolutley amazing. Just to know the boundries brings new meaning to flight and tech. Should make most people feel pretty good about flying after seeing this...in my honest opinion. I would shit myself. I am really "bipolar" when it comes to flights. I love flying however I can't get used to it, so I am always in a state of constant stress. My brain tells me that I am in the safest mode of transportation and the chances of something happening to me are virtually 0, but my gut tells me that I am in a compressed tube at 30,000 ft and that is NOT normal lol.

As much as I like Airbus and Rolls Royce, have not flown on the A350 nor new 777X, but the older 777 was just fantastic. I cannot sit on long flights so stand at the back, 777 had so much more space at the rear than the 747's. But the A380 is in a league of its own..... Hopefully they will be flying for many years to come.

A350 Has Rolls Royce Engines TRENT XWB-97 turbo fan engines which offers 97,000 lbs of thrust during take off the fuel capacity of the A350 is 156,000 litres my brother flew back recently from Orlando on Virgin Atlantic A350 1041 G VLIB which was delivered to Virgin Atlantic at London Heathrow on 27th April 2022 and he couldn't believe how fantastic the Aircraft was also the A350 body is Carbon Fibre which is the new way forward in Aircraft Design

It's also the only time that Airbus will build an aircraft with a composite body. They don't think it's the way forward at all. Plus you can't recycle it and it's very, very difficult to repair.The 787 that had an electrical fire at LHR took months and months for a Boeing team to repair.

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner pioneered the composite fuselage and entered service before the A350. The A350 followed in its footsteps entering service some 4yrs later. I haven’t flown on either and would very much like to.

I flew 10 hours from Paris to Reunion in a 777-39Mer and it was always incredible with these GE90-115b engines. Among the noisy planes, the 777-300er is the least noisy with really appreciable comfort. Already if the 300er, which is an old plane from 2004 and is so comfortable and quiet, I dare not imagine the quality of comfort and modernity on board the 777x, it must really be incredible!

Throwing out all fanboy-isms and just being real here, both aircraft are fantastic engineering and will give many millions of passenger-miles of safe, reliable, and economic operation. There's no loser here. The 777x is the largest commercial aircraft yet made in terms of wingspan and length from nose to tail tip, even larger in those dimensions than the 747 and A380. The only thing I question about the 777x is, could Boeing have redeveloped the 777 to incorporate more composite materials in its structure to save weight and make it even MORE efficient?

I dont think you can 'develop' carbon fibre to the extent needed, otherwise they would have. Airbus have started with a far more recent design form scratch, whereas Boeing, as you say, are still developing a very old concept.

Honestly... from the passenger perspective I don't know what is all that praises to the A350 because I have tried in three different airlines and I can't fine anything that "woow" me... windows are much smaller than 787 and it feels much smaller than then 777-300...I really love the A330 but this A350...no. I'm flying soon and I rather flying KLM with their old 777-200 than flying AF on the A350 that is schedule for those days I'm traveling. Recently had the opportunity flying AF 350 and 777-200 way much better feeling of amplitude in the 777 than the 350...

Edsmaureen - leaving aside the obviously absurd nature of your comment, Prem Prakash Dubey is correct. Fuel burn for the 777-9 is predicted to be 48lbs per mile (1.1lbs per passenger mile) compared to only 32lbs per mile (0.9lbs per passenger mile) for the A350-1000.

I always look for flights using an A330 when taking long haul flights due to the 2-4-2 seat setup. I MUST have a window and only having one person to climb over makes a huge difference for 12hrs. Hoping the A330-900 sells. Ive tried the 777, 787, and a350 but Ill choose any old raggedy a330 anyday.

It’s actually the airline that sets up all seating and amenities inside, Boeing and Airbus just build the plane part, the inside is entirely dependent on what that airline wanted to do. From the air conditioning system, to the seating layout. So, I wouldn’t really say either plane manufacturer controls the seating arrangement.

I remember seeing the A300-600 FBW demonstrator at Farnborough in the mid-1980's - Airbus have been doing these high AoA take-offs and slow fly-bys for over 35 years.

A350 Looks small but it is very big. 777X looks big because it is very big. The main landing gear of 777X to A350 is like a heavy duty truck to a sports car.

its a 350-900 which is significantly smaller then the -1000 to be exact 5 meters with 69 meers the 777x is even longer then the -1000 with a length of 76 meters and the ge9x engines of the 777x are the biggest engines out there which makes the plane looks even more huge

Not to mention the 777x has a 14+ “ wider fuselage which allows for a “comfortable” 10 seat abreast economy when compared to Airbus’ identical config ( which has narrower aisles and almost 1” narrow seats). Also the wingspan on the 777x is 23ft wider. The a350 is big, but the 777-9 is huge ( longer and wider then even a 747-8). Both amazing feats of engineering, hats off to the engineers for the incredible gains in fuel efficiency and technology!

The 777x is agile whereas the A350 is fuel efficient! For long distance with big capacity the 777x has advantage. In the ultra long range medium capacity, the A350 has the upper hand.

The A350 has a much lighter frame per unit of cabin floor area and is more agile, efficient, and versatile.; the 777X has more capacity than the A350-1000 but is up against MLG runway-loading limits and will only be successful in airline service with high load factors.

Although it's had more time to rack up orders, the A350 has had 940 orders to the 777X's 340 orders, so it's much too early to say the 777X is more popular.

@@ThisisFlight When I say more popular I'm obviously talking about the previous generation. Which is why there have only been 340 orders, why order the new version when many of the previous generations aren't even that old. The 777x with its higher takeoff weight , larger cargo and passenger capacity allowing airlines to make sizeable profits off cargo hauling will be even more popular once aging 300 ERs are retired.

777x Wing is a thing of beauty. So graceful and elegant Looking. Like a bird flying with all that flex a350 Fuselage Looks more modern and Is because of the composites Engine Sounds Subjective I liked them both Take off the 777x Was much more impressive on the climbout and level off vs the a350's Landing much more aggressive on the 777x, came in out of a bank and droppped it on the the runway amazing for such a large aircraft. From a airshow flying point of view 777x won no contest. Much much more aggressive.

Interesting point. No doubt the 777X had all the wow moments, with steeper climbs, more aggressive banks etc. But it also had the rather more rigid American attitude to flying "demonstrations" - fly a manoeuvre, disappear, slowly turn around, then come back for the next one. The A350 was displayed in a typically French, flowing style with one manoeuvre flowing into the other, quicker repositions and more imaginative use of the intermediate display lines. They kept the aircraft closer to the crowd, but couldn't build up energy like the 777X did as a result. You generally see similar patterns with US military display teams vs their European counterparts. So which is better? For a highlights video that just shows the best bits, the 777X surely wins. For an in person spectator watching the whole thing start to finish, it's hard to decide, but I think I'd side with the A350.

The A350 was quieter - in fact I raised the levels of the A350 by 5db more than the 777x.

i think these are without load and with less fuel Realtime performance will be more similar but boeing looks a bit more powerful , but airbus seems like a safe plane during take off and landing . Which one will be better for the airports with frequent cross winds??

The triple seven is huge, like an athletic weightlifter that everyone loves. The A350 is what you'd pick up your first date with, like in high-school at the drive-in theater.

Respect to both Seattle and Toulouse, pilots, air crew, mechanics ground crew, ATCs, emergency standby teams, etc for for this grand display.

The painting of that A350 is so pretty and cool ! Nice. I heard of the Airbus has this 'security system' where you can´t do brusque maneuveus, so that is why probably de 777x maneuveus looks freely and less sluggish compared to the A350? Just wondering, not really sure if it´s because of that.

The 777 has way more power to weight ratio, and wing span. Empty it can take off nearly vertical, and has the agility of a glider. The 777x isn't just a competitor to the A350, but also the A380 and replacement for the 747. It is meant to be very versatile and able to be modified. In different configurations can travel farther than that a350 and haul heavier loads than the a380. Over all the a350 is an excellent plane for the purposes it was designed for. No airbus engineers thought it necessary to be able to take off vertically and do barrel rolls. Boeing wants an everything airframe that only needs to be certified once to avoid another 737-Max debacle.

Boeing airplane allow that in flight envelop. But Airbus not allow that maneuvers.

The A350 looked more stable when landing (wings not flapping as much + less noise with reverse thrusters). However, the Boeing looks much more menacing / like an eagle. Both are gorgeous beasts.

The falling of wings doesn’t mean the aircraft is not stable that is the flexibility of wing which is beneficiary to the stability of the aircraft in flight.

Umm…not really. 777-9x is bigger and has bigger engine that is way quieter and more efficient than an 350’s. If you haven’t been near this aircraft take off, you can’t say that it’s loud. I have been near this aircraft and it’s way quieter than 737-max and believe me 737-max’s engine is quieter than A380’s engine. The 777-9x engine is more powerful than any commercial aircraft engine ever built.

Can confirm the A350 was substantially the quieter of the two throughout yesterday's display - in fact I had to boost the levels of the A350 by 10db in this video to make it sound "right". The audio of the 777X was boosted by only 5db.

@@benzeeable1 No, the Ge9x only produces 110kN - it isn't as powerful as the GE90-115 used on some 777-300ERs which produces 115kN.

I was watching a bunch of Raptor, and Flanker videos recently… so I was kinda expecting either of these planes to pull a cobra during their demonstrations.
