Alausí Ecuador - Beautiful Town Halfway between Quito and Cuenca

Update: this video is getting a lot of view due to the catastrophic landslide in Aluasí. This video is old and does not talk about the recent disaster.
We hit fog too thick to drive in, so we stopped for the night in Alausí, Ecuador, a town we'd never heard of. Turns out it's one of Ecuador's hidden gems. It's a beautiful traditional town with a wonderful climate hidden in the Andes Mountains.

Cool video. At what time did u find fog? Any hotel you could recommend in that town?

The fog was from midday on. I only stayed one night and my hotel was just ok. I’d need to spend more time there to make an informed recommendation. Hopefully I’ll be back there in a few months.

We want to retire to Ecuador in 5 years...probably Cuenca. We toy with the idea of a smaller town like this but wonder if we might get bored quickly. We speak Spanish and really don’t care if we are around expats or not. We really hope to live in a traditional Ecuadorian neighborhood...not gringolandia. Thanks for the video !

Been there a couple times. At the moment we’re in Playas. It’s a lot different from the last time I was here 6 years ago. Unfortunately, the beach is completely covered in garbage so the family wants to go further north.
