Alba AQPK401 - A Simple Fully Lumed Beater

I have about a dozen lume dial watches, this is no doubt the least expensive and it’s the best glower. Even artificial room lighting is enough to make it totally legible without needing to let my eyes adjust. I have mine on a self made multicam strap, worth every penny.

For additional information, I checked Alba's Japanese website and I found that this particular model's case was Palladium coated. Quite a punch for a small simple quartz watch, right. I had to admit Seiko is full of surprise. Btw, the movement is Hattori VJ21.

How do your Alba models (and the Pulsar from the latest video) compare to the Lorus lumibrite? Did you ever own the Lorus, is there much difference in quality?

I do not own or have ever seen a Lorus in person, but the full lume dial of the pulsar is not nearly as bright as the alba. I am too sure about the quality, but I have heard Lorus is not as nice as Pulsar/Alba...

These remind me of the smaller Seiko 5 watches of the 80s. May have to get one. Is it holding up?

It does look similar to the Seiko, it's a very lightweight watch and works as you would expect. The only thing I was disappointed about was that the second hand missed the mark by a little bit, but other than that it was a nice beater watch...

Check out ebay, they have a good bit of them on there, from the fully lumed dial, to black dial version. They ship from Japan so it will take 2-3 week to ship...

hi..is it made of titanium or plastic?and what is the lug tip to lug tip size?

It's palladium plated brass. Uncertain about lug tip measurement, but it has a 35.5mm case measurement. One source says it has a body weight of 36g. The AQPJ401 model is in 38mm titanium case (and possibly a 45mm length) with a metal strap (including a questionable clasp), while the AQPJ403 also includes a 38mm titanium case and a green fabric band. The AQPJ403 is out of stock, but the AQPJ401 is available at the same price. To compare the dial of the AQPJ401 to the AQPJ403, it appears the 401 has a light tan dial, while the 403 has a greenish color. It might be best to verify any specifications (especially fully lumed dial) before making a purchase. Some items may be discontinued. If you'd like a polymer cased version, then look into these models: AQPJ405, AQPJ407, APBX083 & AQPK413. You will have to verify any desired model has a fully lumed dial.

is this solar powered? there is an Alba watch that looks very similar to it, but is solar powered. Now if you combine this lume + solar, that is a perfect beater watch!
