Hi Folks,
Here's a Alba personal stereo radio cassette player from the 1980's. It comes with box and headphones, and was part of a recent consignment from eBay. It seems nasty, it doesn't work and there's an ominous rattle... but can we get it singing once again?
In this video, I replace the belts and sort the disintegrated clutch mechanism to get it working.

Another great video!! I remember getting a crown unit for my Christmas in 1984 (I had had hoped for a Sony unit like all my friends had) between Christmas and new year it had chewed up my favourite iron maiden tape!!!!! I was devastated 😂😂😂

That sucks! I got a Sanyo MGP9, by mine served me extremely well. I didn't actually own a Sony Walkman for decades after. Thanks for watching 👍👍

You did a great job on this. It's actually a cute little walkman. Also loving the Woolworths cassette!

It sounded pretty good in the flesh. Actually very good for its price point. I was about to fit a new headphone jack on the cable afterall, but someone wanted to buy it as it was - so it went as it was. Glad I got it going. Thanks for watching 👍

I was racking my brain trying to think of the other brand that was as bad as Alba, and eventually remembered Murphy, along with Tandy's, 'own brand', called Realistic, were pretty bad, as well.

It actually sounds pretty good for the money. The new owner loves it, which is the main thing. I find it's the build quality and simplicity which makes them cheap. I had a new old stock international Walkman that broke the first time I tried it 😂
