As I was saying to @Paul SJ under another video, I love this performance of China Boy for many reasons, especially the deal between the Armengou sisters: Elsa plays what she thinks she can, and Alba plays whatever else is on the trumpet part. Alba actually holds it when Elsa comes in, always ready to pick it up if needed. The interplay between Alba and Paula is not as smooth; once or twice I felt Paula wanted to come in, but Alba was playing so forcefully she was a bit intimidated and yielded (to a kid many years her junior).

To me, Alba and Elsa share the melody in regular fours, while Paula, the oldest here, holds back ?to save the flow? when Alba steps up.

@@paulsj9245 - Hmm… I think you're right. Certainly the alternation is quite regular; it's not like Elsa 'dropped the ball' at any point. I said that because it's clear Alba pays very close attention when it's Elsa's turn. As is to be expected from an older sister or fellow player - watch out for your buddy. I'm sure Andrea did it too, for both of them.

@@ClaudioRCFaria True! I loved Magali's reaction after Elsa bravely finished her first part!

Alba's Septet' set at the FNAC store in Barcelona is of particular interest to SAJB aficionados tracking the development of Joan Chamorro's students through their formative years to graduation. A fan recently (2020) commented that KZbin has probably allowed, 'for the first time', a world-wide audience to observe, encourage and perhaps even influence, the progress of a small school cohort from the ages of 6 to 20, independently of their teachers and parents. The number of regular on-line commentators who seem to have some expertise as musicians or who are jazz fans with apparently deep knowledge of jazz history, who take the time and trouble to offer encouragement to these students, is remarkable compared with the 'average' fan comment found on the KZbin sites of ensembles (bands) and individual artists in other musical genres that I have sampled. Andrea Motis' speech to a Barcelona TEDx audience in 2011 (kzbin.info/www/bejne/jH_ViXiOfJukaas ) recognised the importance of KZbin to the SAJB's success (and her own, as it has turned out). That seasoned professional musicians from around the world have sought out Joan Chamorro's tiny home school and have offered to mentor his protegees by playing alongside them is another example of how the internet has taken Joan's intensely personal 'incubation method' of teaching and put it on a global stage. It's no coincidence that Wynton Marsalis personally invited the SAJB to open for his Lincoln Jazz Orchestra at the Barcelona Jazz Festival this year (2020). R (Australia)

@Claudio Faria Your observation on Elsa at Tiger Rag is hilarious - it was the final bow! Look at the joy she radiates! Here, Alba and Elsa seem to exchange fours during the thema, and Elsa plays one of the transposed(?) melodies which are repeated and widely extended in the 2013 open air version with Scott Hamilton (kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5uYgmqtlK2Eibs). Apparently, they have been working on this piece all the time, from 2009 (kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZonId3iar5WKr9U) at least till 2014. Many of the melodies have been repeated over and over by different musicians, only Carla and Magali (see her cheering Elsa at 1:20!) are constants ;)

It is really hope for the future. But who's doing the off beat clapping? Spoils the real fine performance.
