The name Alberobello could derive from *Silva alboris belli*, with the meaning of "forest of the war tree" and this derivation, devoid of documentary confirmation, has long been endorsed by later historians.
Later studies however underline that the first toponym with which the locality was known was *Silva Alborelli*: so it appears from the oldest document known to scholars in 1481.
The name Alberobello became official on 1797. However, until the 19th century the alternative terms Arborebello or Albero Bello were also adopted.
𝗛𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆
A first anthropization of the area began only in the early 16th century on the impulse of the Count of Conversano Andrea Matteo III Acquaviva d'Aragona, son of Giulio Antonio Acquaviva who fell in the summer of 1480 in the battle of Otranto against the Ottomans.
His successor, Count Giangirolamo II, known by 19th-century historians as the Guercio delle Puglie (blidman of the Puglie) because from a struggle he obtained a bandaged eye in 1635 who started the urbanization of the forest with the construction of an agglomeration of small houses.
The abundance of material, especially limestone and karst stone and the count's authorization to build houses only with dry stone walls without the use of mortar, which became the characteristic trulli, contributed to the expansion of the urban agglomeration.
The obligation to have houses built only with dry stone was an expedient of the count to avoid paying taxes to the Spanish viceroy of the Kingdom of Naples.
Alberobello remained a fief of the Acquaviva d'Aragona of Conversano until Saturday 27 May 1797, when King Ferdinand IV of Bourbon accepted the request of a delegation-committee of seven gentlemen, and elevated the small village to a royal city, freeing it from feudal servitude.
On June 22 1797, physicist Francesco Giuseppe Lippolis nicknamed "False Ears" was elected as the first mayor. On 16 March 1814 the parish was established. In the summer of 1797 Antonio Francesco D'Amore built the first two-storey trullo, known today as *Casa D'Amore*.
Alberobello is the only inhabited center in which there is a whole number of trulli, therefore it is considered the cultural capital of the trulli of Murgia and Valle d'Itria.
It is an UNESCO World Heritage site since 1996.

What a unique place! This is one of the places in my bucket list to visit. So thank you for sharing, Riccardo. The colourful flowers are so beautiful, especially the ones in the laneway filled with them. There was one shot at 1.08 that was like a painting, looking down in between the trulli and the background of the blue sky and white clouds. Superb! Also your drone intro. Bravissimo!

@@geraldinehadiwidjaja7421 Dear Geraldine, thank you as always... It's curious that after so many months we basically got to know each other here in this chat, as we exchange words. It's nice being a small community like this I must say, it's truly the "active" part of all this hobby. There's not only a camera, but people behind the videos... Wowww...!!!!! Hard to believe this is a town in Italy.. I've heard of Alberobello, I saw pictures and I spoke to people from Puglia but, this video is a combination of a different country and a fairytale. Many times during the video my mind wandered and I really had to bring myself back into believing this is part of Italy....Thank you for the exquisite video and if I ever make it back to Italy one thing is for sure, "you just gave me the incentive to start wandering around Italy like there is no tomorrow. Absolutely beautiful...⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Dear Destiny, what a beautiful message, thank you so much! Indeed, it seems a town from another country altogether... I agree 100%. Compared to the towns around me in region Lazio, it's like being in a different world altogether. Everyhing is different, dialect, food, houses, architecture.. the signs of byzantine and greek heritage. Puglia is stunning indeed

Dear Lawsonartzy I was wondering if you enjoyed it lately. Glad you did. Indeed, it can be crowdy.. A few years ago I was there with my girlfriend, in August.. it was unbereable almost.. June is a perfect timing to visit it. Glad you enjoy the filming and the information. Sometimes I even wonder if people even notice them for instance) But it's ok. For the next few weeks there will be more videos about Puglia, as I was there recently. Tomorrow... another one already. I hope you'll like them as always, and always ready for any suggestions also. Again, my dear friend (we can call like that I guess now after so long!), thanks, and a big Ciao from "the boot".

Dear Jenni, thank you so much for your message, which I can "feel" so FULL of energy! It's a pleasure reading about your life and, in a way , after 25 years you're now basically italian I can say)) I understand you in a way, as I am from here, in an area south of Rome, as my all family, but I've in a way lived abroad for several years, since I was 16, from Canada to Russia with some in-betweens, so... I've kinda been an orphan of this world sometimes, in a good way of course)) Then in 2014 I decided to end it and come back here and try to stop a little bit.. one thing led to another, my passion for aviation and drones first and foremost, then the passion of traveling to "unknown" towns has always been present since I was a kid; whenever I've been ,also many times abroad in Europe for instance, I always loved to visit unknown and "off the beaten paths" towns and locations, just to feel the "real breath" of that country... to see how people really lived there. Of course, I love the capitals and the main locations, but, in a way, visiting the "forgotten towns" has always been a fascination that never left me... it's a shame I didn't start filming before to be honest but... that's life.So I started filming mainly around where I live, in my region, Lazio. If the channel will be a little more succesful and if it will be able to provide me with more funds I will surely go more distant locations. Fingers crossed. As for Valle d'Aosta... I have so many memories... Gressoney, Val D'Ayace, Courmaieur... the valley to the Cervino mountain... Aosta itself which is often overlooked. We went there many times when I was a kid for vacations. Then... like in a flash, also my family went "dalle stelle alle stalle" with their business and stuff... so it's a long gone memory for all of us by now, but I guess it will never leave us.... sometimes it's just life, isn't it? Thank you so much for your kind words; as you will see, this channel was born 2 years ago by now, but there are many others, the majority born very recently, so I'm not the only one and you'll find a lot around here for srue. But I'm glad for your words... and happy you enjoy the videos and the info about the towns (I hope the drone footage too!). It's a nice hobby... as I always said "as long as I find pleasure doing it , I'll do it, whenever that pleasure will leave me, I'll just stop.." Up until now it didn't stop , so...

Can't believe someone would put a thumbs down for this one. Knocked it out of the park on this one in my opinion. I love all your walk videos . The only thing I dont like about them, is when you meet a pretty woman on the street , and I'm like " Wait....Stop, I want to enjoy that view for a minute ". But I guess if you did that for every pretty woman on the street, your videos would be a lot longer...... keep up the great work!
@StillWanderer

Glad you enjoyed it Dear Darrin, and yeah, heh, sometimes the encounters are quite funny; if you imagine a guy walking around with a Huge setup in his hand, about half a meter high, with a mic sticked on the back which is also quite huge, you can imagine the stares and the looks, but I've got used to it by now) So they probably just look at the direction of the camera and laugh in a way)

This seems like such an amazing place to visit. The 'Trulli houses' are very unique indeed. I think I came across these type of structures in an Italian real estate video where the owner had three of these buildings on his property. I didn't know much about them but I am curious about the interior. It would be interesting to see how the inside looks. The flowered plants gives a pleasing aesthetic to the whole scenery. Glad that they preserved all these houses for people to appreciate. Interesting history about these buildings. Well researched and I thank you for sharing it with us. Appreciate all your efforts into making these videos.

Glad you enjoyed it Dear AC Lang, indeed they are quite unique, their history as well... to think that, maybe, they were using in a way such as to not pay taxes, is rather incredible and quite genial as well) I made a video of a small tour (6 minutes) inside a Trullo while I was there. I'm preparing it so I'll show it here too soon. It was so cool inside compared to the heat outside, and the owner told me that they're made such as they are cool in summer and warm in winter. She also told me that, before Alberobello became a UNESCO heritage site, they could literally be bought "for pennies"....but now...

I actually got scared too at that moment... it happened and still happens sometimes that I have to turn the camera off for something that happened... if you watch closely, at the end of the video, after the big church.. there's a cut in the video. A passerby slipped while descending the ladders and went there to help her (even though the husband was there), but it was truly nothiing. It's one of those bits and pieces that happen during those travels. Many people met as well... I was actually thinking of writing down all the memories and the encounters during those days... would be quite amusing I guess
