In Joni Mitchell's "The Fiddle and the Drum" Alberta Ballet excels with a refreshing choreography adapted to popmusic. An excellant ensemble and a brilliant performance, especially with the little girl towards the end!

I 've always loved Joni, but this ballet is not one of her best endeavors. The dancers are beautiful, but all the pieces move at the same pace and Joni's voice never sounded worse. It's almost painful to listen to. Terrible lighting for dance. Not all music is good for dance, and unfortunately this music is not. I believe in what Fred Astaire said about dance in film. Just keep the camera on the dancers. MTV editing never shows the whole pattern on the choreography.
