Joe Ligon still got it. You can tell that the musicians aren't used to old school. They're trying to play what's on the score sheet and Joe is singing what's in his heart. These musicians have to learn to follow the lead. Joe is not type be rushed. This is his anthem. He's been doing this song for over thirty years. He's earned the right to sing it the way HE wants. All people who get up in church and sing, be sure to sing not editorialize. This is not to beat any one up. However, when Bro. Joe got up to sing he talked then sang. That can trip everyone up, especially at a funeral or memorial!!! Eulogists have also broken down or almost broke down in these situations. So respect singers and musicians.

Inexperienced musicians would not have been able to help. Joe Ligon is the greatest and I continue to pray for him and his family.

once again if musicians know of a song and the lead singer has modified it , the musicians have a task of playing catch up and sometimes that is not easy, apparently they were listening, you are not paying attention, listen carefully to the musicians they did a great job by slowing down and allowing joe to sing and they carefully followed him. Joe did modify the pattern from its original pattern.

Brandon, the musicians know this song and know it well the problem here is the musicians and joe did not rehearse together the day before that is evident therefore joe did modify some parts of the song, that is where the breakdown of communication is at when a lead singer modify a part(s) the musicians have to fall directly in and sometimes that is telling and its not their fault, however they do have to be skilled to cover up mistakes. ive been listening to this song for 35 years.

You know this makes me madd as ever. Today's musicians are to self centered. They think that traditional gospel is simple and just a bunch of basic turns, scales, and grooves. WELL IT IS NOT!!! It is about a shared feeling of koinania, when soloist, musicians, background singers, and the congregation are one. . He wants to take his time, and I think the musicians should discern that.
