Anamorós is a municipality in the department of La Unión in El Salvador. It limits the north with Lislique and Nueva Esparta; to the east with Nueva Esparta; to the south with El Sauce and Santa Rosa de Lima; to the west with Society and Corinth.
Its name means Place of corn, El Maizal, Los edores de sapote or Place of lizards, comes from the roots Anam = corn, lizard, Amo = Gold sapote, Oros = locative suffix and Ros = verb to eat.
In 1770, Anamorós was a town of the Gotera parish, with 170 inhabitants divided into 72 families, according to census data collected by Archbishop Pedro Cortés y Larraz. In 1786, he joined the Gotera party. In 1807, it was already the head of the parish of the same name, with the towns of Polorós and Lislique as annexes. According to the geographer, Mr. Guillermo Dawson obtained the title of town in 1871. By legislative decree No. 173 of October 31, 1972, the town of Anamorós was conferred the title of city.
For his administration, Anamorós is divided into 8 cantons and 57 hamlets. Being its cantons: Agua Blanca, Cedros, El Carbonal, El Cordoncillo, El Tizate, Huertas Viejas, Terroritos, Tulima.
The patron saint festivities of Anamorós are celebrated from August 10 to 16 in honor of the Virgin of Asunción.
Some recommended places to visit in this municipality are the hills of Grande, Partido, La Ventana, La Culebra, El Pando and La Peña.
Anamorós has a land area of ​​108 square kilometers, has a population of more than 15 thousand inhabitants and is located 180 meters above sea level. It has the title of City, granted in 1972 and is located at a distance of 191 kilometers from San Salvador.
