I was in Jim Keays' band that day and Stevie's performance was mind blowing, he stole the show by a country mile! I was lucky enough to be standing just to the side of Cheetah so I had a great view of the girls and Stevie lol.

He was very similar, if not the only singer could have maybe been better than Bon Scott.

+Thomas Nehrmann I gotta say, I normally don't like live versions, of a lot of songs, but I heard this on max music yesterday and couldn't believe how amazing it is, I think the studio song isn't as good, it's a little too polished, and Stevies voice sounds a little more raw and has a little more rasp to it here, this is for sure, one of the greatest live recordings I've ever heard.

I watch this from time to time and it never ceases to amaze me. It's as close to perfection that a live performance can get. So much to look at. Tight band, great backing vocals and a front man who just owns it. The fading shot of Stevie between Parts 1 and 2 is about as poignant shot of him as there (4.37). He is just so so good in this and its a testament to his skill as a singer to convey so many emotions contained in this trilogy. Truly epic.

i met him in the 90s..he was homeless n living in a mini minor i think at the time.. he gave me free tix to see him... i was absolutely floored he would do this.... nicest bloke evr n nailed it in the nite! sad he let himself get into the state he was... but still made people smile inspite of his demons n not carry on like self absorbed arseholes.. .. thats the real talent these guys have...the rest is just showbiz... Tickets to Stevie Wright and Hard Rain??? He lived with us in early 90's., in a house with many creatives. I knew him v well. He fell down the drainpipe at number 75 (Balmain) coming home from photo shoot v late. Having forgotten his keys, he tried to climb to his room upstairs via bathroom drainpipe. He had snakeskin boots on. I was woken by bloodcurdling yelling of my name. His leg was shattered. I'm a nurse. I woke Bruno Renzella, Hard Rain guitarist (and also session guitarist for Barnes) and we carried him inside, ambulance etc. Stevie and I got very close but vicious gossip and jealousy tried to destroy it. I mean, it was v vicious. But we would talk for hours, he was a very astute and intelligent man. But in the mornings, 1st thing, he would roll over and pour himself a large glass of Southern Comfort whiskey. Lord. He loved it. Then came the Methodone. Then the odd v seedy dealer dropping off the foils. I hated those dealers. Then the spoons. The need for constant clean needle supply. Endless bottles of Southern Comfort. This is the realities of living with such a person. But the times of brilliant clarity when he settled to talk. Worth it all. He could talk to me about anything because I am well read, and was having a break from nursing and working at Sydney Uni Library and he thought it was classy!! I bought home great books. The odd other girl around were not as educated as me at all. Which appeared his usual type of girlfriend. I liked one of them v much and was v annoyed when he got her to have a hit. They were out to it on the loungeroom floor when I came home from work. She had children!!! I could have killed him. I never felt jealousy.................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... But I never realised till later it had been me he was working towards. He left it too late. He gave me the biggest and greatest compliment anyone has ever given me. I shall never forget it. He said that I ' had everything' ..meaning everything a man would want. Embarrassing as it is to write about it, I am not comfortable big noting ... he said.....' You have Looks, Brains, Class, Style, Compassion and Understanding.' But there was a strong movement to destroy what he and I had and in the end it did. From 2 older vicious single women in particular. I even once overheard them discussing what crap they were going to say and try etc etc. The odd person believed their malicious gossip and one unfortunately was Bruno Renzella. Who was such an idiot. I told Stevie, but he brushed it off saying he and I know the truth, that was all that mattered. Which is true. But one day someone else lured me away and I remember Stevie just asking sadly 'But are you happy'?? I lied. Because I couldn't take the games and viciousness of that house anymore. And I know he went downhill from there. But I loved him. Still do.

Saw him at the Bexley North hotel one morning in the early 90's, he could see that I recognised him and came over and introduced himself, when i as at the bar, the 20 something girl with him was playing video poker machines. I wish I knew about the Easy Beats years ago. I only learned about the song Evie while reading a book about Angus, Malcolm and George Young last year. There was a chapter dedicated to this song because George co-wrote it and Malcolm played guitar on it. Reading about the song made me look it up on KZbin and I found this live version. I......was......floored. What an amazing performance. I talked so much about it my son and his wife got me a vinyl copy of "Hard Road" album for my birthday. And yes, every time I watch this performance, I choke up as well because music will never be this good again.

The Easybeats were an Australian rock band. They formed in Sydney in late 1964 and disbanded at the end of 1969. They are regarded as the greatest Australian pop band of the 1960s, echoing the Beatles' success in Britain, and were the first Australian rock and roll act to score an international pop hit with their 1966 single "Friday on My Mind". Other hits such as Sorry and She's so fine. Two members rhythm guitarist George Young and lead guitarist Harry Vanda went on to write and produce some of Australia's top hits in the famous music company "Alberts". They encouraged a band forming and interviewed guitarists and George Young famously stated to Harry "my two little brothers Malcolm and Angus are better than these". Angus I think was 16 and apparently a amazing guitarist. Australian ACDC was born and went on to release the worlds second biggest selling album of all time (Thriller being no. 1). Vanda and Young produced ACDC's first 6 albums with Alberts and also wrote songs like international hit Love is in the air + many many more hits you would know. They are very famous and influential in the music industry to this day. Stevie Wright went down hill. He is famous for 2 other things. 1. Drugs and alcohol abuse and it's long term effects and 2. His Australian Anthem "Evie" ian Australian rock song released as a single in 1974. It was written by Harry Vanda and George Young. It has been suggested that it is the first 11-minute song parts (1,2,3) to chart at #1 anywhere in the world.[1]. The song "evie" even demands it's own page on wikipaedia, not the artist stevie, the actual song. I think the most memorable performance of it was on the steps of the opera house in 1979 and it is on film (see link). He had been clean for 2 years before this performance (he had been on smack for years and famously was a patient in Chelmsford (1976) to come clean where he suffered brain damage with deep sleep therapy and ECT. The Easybeats front man was one of a number of former patients to give evidence at a royal commission into the Pennant Hills hospital, after 24 patients died following deep sleep therapy and a further 19 committed suicide within a year of treatment. The opera house performance was outstanding performance. I was there. He opened and he held us all spellbound, when he sang part two; there was silence. There was 200 000 people there and there was silence. It was a strange experience. 200 000 people held captive by this small energetic man. At the end of part 2 all of us chimed in the final chorus. I will never forget that day. Evie has been my favourite song since I was 13. I feel every Australian needs to hear Evie at some time so I hope you watch the link. If you listen it is a complete and tragic story-Evie dies That was it. Now it was down hill for Stevie Stevie's decline was amazing. He apparently swapped a heavy smack addition for 2 bottles of southern comfort a day for years. He was diagnosed with kosicoffs syndrome prior to his death and in a nursing home (but he did get out). But the physical change. OMG, OMG. Have a look at the two men in the clips you will NOT believe they are the same person. I was 7 when this concert happened. Remember falling in love with this song the first time I heard it & have been in love with it ever since. No words, lots of tears, goose bumps & heart explosions when watching this, every time. What a fucking song!!! Has to be one of the greatest songs ever written. No words are good enough to truly describe Stevie’s performance. And have passed the love I have for this song onto my daughter, who when she was 8, one of my fondest memories is her & me singing to this at the top of our lungs in my car, she knew every single word. Every time I watch this, I cannot even comprehend how good it is. And I believe the reason why this & other things Stevie did were legendary is because he was a tortured soul, a deep & passionate feeler. If he wasn’t, it wouldn’t be as good. Look at all the brilliant artists this world has seen - Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Vincent Van Gough, Stevie Wright, Bon Scott, Jimi Hendrix, Micheal Jackson, Amy Winehouse, Kurt Cobain etc, etc. They created amazing things that came from their tortured souls. I think Stevie was here for as long as he was as meant to be & he gave to the world what he was meant to. He was meant to be here for a short, bright time & leave a mark! And he did.
