Born and raised in Marsala, Sicily, Italy, but now residing in Kingston, Jamaica, she is a multi-instrumentalist that is proficient in guitar, bass, drums and keyboards. His musical career began with the Italian reggae band Reggae National Tickets in Bergamo, when he was 15 in 1993 when he was known as Stena. In 2001, Alborosie decided to pursue an individual career. He moved to Jamaica to get close to the roots of reggae music and Rastafari culture. [1] He started working there as a sound engineer and producer. He also worked with artists such as Gentleman and Ky-Mani Marley. His first solo album was called Soul Pirate. In summer 2009, she released her second album, Escape from Babylon. [2] Alborosie played in the Uppsala Reggae Festival in August 2008. [3] The name "Alborosie" comes from a name given in the early years after moving to Jamaica. "Borosie was what I used to call. Let me tell you this. My early experience in Jamaica was ... not nice. Borosie was a name I used to call and it has a negative meaning. So I said, 'That's the name use it and destroy the space and become a negative positive! ". Basically my name is Albert, so I add "Al" - Al-borosie. But I'm not saying what borosie means! "[4] Alborosie's hit list includes "Rastafari Anthem", "Kingston Town" and "Call Up Jah". Alborosie recently founded its own record label, Forward Recordings. He has given concerts all over the world, including most of Europe and Jamaica. In 2011, he was the first white artist to win MOBO (Black Music) awards in the Best Reggae Act category. [5] [6] In 2014, Greensleeves Records released Specialist Presents Alborosie & Friends, a collaboration with other artists. [6] The album ranked 7th on the Billboard Top Reggae Albums list. [6] Collaborated with King Jammy on a dub album, Reality of Dub, which is scheduled for release in early 2015. [7] In 2015, his classic album, Soul Pirate, will be re-taught and released in Deluxe Remastered Edition with 4 never-released bonus tracks - Call Up Jah, Slambam, Streets and Jamaica. Published by Evolution Music Group. In May 2016, Freedom & Fyah released an album on their VP albums. [8] At the end of 2016, Evolution Music Group released its classic album, the acoustic version of Soul Pirate,. The title was released in CD and CD + DVD format. [9] 2018's Brilliant Album: Alborosie Meets the Wailers United is # 6 on the Billboard Reggae Album List. [10] He collaborated with Roots Radics on the 2019 Alborosie Meets The Roots Radics: Dub For The Radicals album. [11] Personal life Alberto D'Ascola was born on 4 July 1977 in Marsala (Sicily, Italy). He is a member of the Rastafari movement. His father was a retired police officer, his mother a housewife. [12] D'Ascola became interested in reggae music and joined Reggae National Tickets in 1992 at the age of 15. He is a dual national of Italy and Jamaica.
