Iron Maiden: the 2-disc pre-'98 non-remastered/squashed pressings of the studio albums from the debut to FOTD! (or what the hell, make it the rest of them too!) Those have been out of print for a *long* time and command pretty high prices on the 2nd hand market. It's really odd how there's been several rounds of remasters/reissues of the basic albums, but the only time (IIRC) they've re-released the singles' B-side material was on the Eddie's Archives box set, which is also long out of print and expensive, isn't quite 100% complete, and is from 2002 and thus brickwalled af as was tradition at the time.

I really respect Pete's mission of getting fans to accept change in bands (ie Journey) I saw Queen & Paul Rodgers in Belfast in 2005 and that REALLY opened my mind to the whole concept because if there's ANY band you'd argue couldn't survive without their singer it's Queen. The concert was exceptional and Paul was outstanding bringing his own thing to proceedings, they also played some of his big hits and getting to hear Radio Gaga with 10,000 other people is an experience most folks should have!
@christopherdavies30793 жыл бұрын
I totally get with what you’re saying about Queen . I had a similar experience but with Adam Lambert fronting Queen at their last concert at The 02 , London I was fortunate to see Queen 3 times during their career with Freddie Mercury so the bar had bern set very high ! Adam Lambert fronting Queen is very marmite with the Queen fan base , but I have to say how much I enjoyed the concert , the production was very high , the visuals were excellent and I was blown away by what a good vocalist Lambert is and there certainly is a chemistry between him and Roger Taylor & Brian May and the backing musicians. Lambert doesn’t try to impersonate Freddie Mercury and brings something else to the performance. Queen and Paul Rodgers were good live but I was very disappointed with the studio album that they made together .

A few from me... *Pink Floyd* - 'The Final Cut' Over recent years it has become my favourite album by the band. I think perhaps it means more to a British audience, given the background of the Falklands war and the divisive premiership of Margaret Thatcher. It contains the finest lyrics Roger Waters ever penned {'Paranoid Eyes' is masterful) and also his most emotional singing. *Led Zeppelin* - 'Presence' It was always found in the bargain bins back in the day, but I think time has been really good to it. A fine, fine album which sees the band going back to basics on many songs. I've long described the sound as junkie rockabilly from Saturn. *Queen* - 'Hot Space' I didn't like it much at the time but about half of it has grown on me enormously, that is the Freddie-dominated dance tracks. I now adore disco music and love the fact that the band went down that road. To be honest I wish they'd done a whole record in that style. Freddie's singing is superb on those tunes, some of his best ever.

Eloy: "Metromania" (1984) considered their worst, the album that broke up the band. My first (and favorite) Eloy album, I love it. Yes: the entire '80s. Love "Drama," and I'm a huge Trevor Rabin fan ("90125" and "Big Generator") Kiss: "Crazy Nights" (1987) I'm weird and far prefer '80s Kiss to '70s Kiss UFO: "Making Contact" (1983) the Paul Chapman years get too much hate in general. People say this album sounds like the band is burned out, but I just don't hear it. Thin Lizzy: "Chinatown" (1980) Killer album, another album that people say the band was burned out, Snowy White didn't fit, blah blah. But it ranks highly for me Rush: everything from 1982-1993. Favorite period of Rush. Bite me. Led Zeppelin: "In Through The Out Door" (1979) favorite LZ album, containing my favorite LZ song (Carouselambra). Have I fully discredited myself yet? Pink Floyd: "Momentary Lapse Of Reason" (1987) my first and favorite PF album. As a bonus, no Roger Waters vocals. Don't care if it's a de facto David Gilmour solo album, I love it. Journey: "Raised On Radio" (1986) Schon at his shreddiest, the production was super '80s but not overdone like Frontiers. Very tight musicianship, great songs and hooks. Kansas: "Drastic Measures" (1983) I have no defense for this one. I just love it. Judas Priest: "Turbo" (1986) Makes my head bang every time. I can admit this was a misstep for the band, but I quite like it a lot. Saga: "Wildest Dreams" (1987) Their only straight pop album, a risk and a failure, but it bangs, for me Black Sabbath: "Born Again" (1983) So fucking awful it's good. Heavy as shit, needs to be remixed but I rank it super high Whitesnake: "Slip Of The Tongue" (1989) Shreddy hair metal is my favorite, and anything with Steve Vai gets my vote. "But it's not bluueeessy enough..." Good, I say. Y&T: "Contagious" (1987) Not hated so much as ignored or forgotten. But my favorite from them, love Jimmy DeGrasso's drums, killer solos by Dave Meniketti, great sound. Accept: "Eat The Heat" (1989) David Reece is a fantastic, underrated vocalist. Great musicianship and hooks. Is it the best Accept album? No, but doesn't deserve the hate, I don't think.

Although I have not heard alot of these albums, I think that most of them have one common thing = "Experimentation"! And trying to fit in with the era in which they were made. All of them do not become these classic bands finest thing for sure. Two RUSH albums that get the bad rap is HOF, which of course thank God is their Last Great Geddy keyboard driven "Era", which deserves to get the regards that it gets, after a Very Great era! And "Presto", which Kind of puzzles me as to why so many do not like it, as It IS Alex's great come back to guitar driven songs! Genesis-Calling All Stations. I remember Classic Rock Mag album rankings calling it "one to avoid". Even the band seem to have disowned it. I watched a Genesis documentary & it didn't even get a mention. There's some great tracks on it, the title track, Congo, Shipwrecked, What About Us. I've heard it said "It shouldn't even be called a Genesis album"' but then some people say that about all the post Gabriel albums. More Classic Rock Mag "one's to avoid" are Thin Lizzy's Renegade & Marillion's Fugazi, both of which I think are great.

Black Sabbath - Never Say Die (sorry again, Pete :D) Gentle Giant - Civilian (maybe a lot of people view this as a improvement after Giant For A Day, but it's still fairly disliked by many) Pain of Salvation - Scarsick (oh god, how much sh*t was thrown to this when PoS released it. And I never got that, it's as strong as their classic albums) Opeth - Heritage (for me that's a start of golden Opeth era. And many people to this day still can't overcome this change of style) Steven Wilson - To The Bone (one of the best prog-pop albums I've ever listened, it still has all the qualities of every SW album) Genesis - And Then There Were Three (really enjoyable album but hated by Gabriel-fan-snobs just because that's the same three guys who made all that poppy stuff some years later). And the most funny choice for last: Metallica - St. Anger (I just find this very original. Maybe it lacks some qualities of traditional Metallica sound and compositions, but that album was a brave and interesting statement... and I really like it).

Metallica - St. Anger - most people can't stand this record, but I would argue that the album has more energy and emotion than people give it credit. @Gregbaltzer3 жыл бұрын
I won't argue the raw emotion, and even if you put aside Lars' snare, I still find the songs/lyrics kind of cringy. I can't make it past the third song, I tried a few times. The album just sounds like a band trying too hard to be something they're not.
