DAY 13=AEROSMITH -Toys In The Attic. Hi friends. Today as can see Aerosmith and Toys In The Attic, I have the vinyl and I had gotten back in the day, Already had GET YER WINGS and gotten the debut self titled band album. This would be played a whole bunch along with Get Yer Wings alot until Rocks would come along and Draw The Line and well the other records to follow to where we had to hear what they were doing later. Recalling me and childhood friend Montie and others where listening to the record that they had of it in their homes, I would give the album milage and still can if want to and enjoy it, I would be seeing Aerosmith in 75. They had been thru town couple previous times to back up the previous albums for tours. The Toys In The Attic tour and opener Ted Nugent/Amboy Dukes. As would always it seemed run into Ted on bills of concerts in the 70s. Thats how it was. he was good. Now Aerosmith rockin the arena. Would see in 76 for a date festival that Montie and me went to and at this Park that had it with Henry Gross Rory Gallagher whom Henry and Rory missed or as to maybe last song cause my friend had to be able to get away while waiting I think for his to be fiancé Kim to come back from being out. And him doing to few things for his parents while they were there. Anyway Rick Derringer and Ted Nugent to come on before headliner Aerosmith. a lot of great music from these artists. Would see Aerosmith in 77 with UFO and maybe in 78. To the album the title track Toys In The Attic. Stevens vocals Joe Perry and ripping riffs and Brad Whitford's rhythm Tom Hamilton and his bass and Joey Kramer's pounding drums. It starts of with a band of a tune. Love it, Then Uncle Salty that Steven wrote having to with an orphanage. Its a rockin and some bluesy rock and like the track chords are good and Steven and the others in harmonies Then Adams Apple another cranker quite good. And all along Steven coming up with the lyrics as the band in the hard rock and blues rock vain. The track is great then Walk This Way the hit later with Run DMC for song to get some new life, The track is moving and so good to a hit never mind hearing and loving Perry and his playing in it, Then Big Ten Inch Record cover of =(Bull Moose Jackson's "Big Ten-Inch Record", an R&B hit recorded in 1952 and first heard by the band on a tape of Dr. Demento's radio show on KMET.) wiki credit. It's a great number standard by the band and nice as the original is heads up track with Bull Moose he did back in 52. As I just finding out. Sweet Emotion a rock and Zepp like and about girl relationship to Tyler who was interested involved with Perry. Any way what you find out later is what went on even as it becomes daunting/ Rock and roll has its moments that's for sure. No More No More about boredom and life on the road. A heavy driven number Do like how it goes and sounds. Then ballad of You See Me Crying with the touches of orchestration and cresting along into the bliss and a number that may give you tears and give you what ever you take from it. The lifestyle was band would live would be what it was and yet they persevered to well the time will tell if there is anymore to the band or not. Thank them for this album I give a 3,5 -4. I love the cover to it with those Toys on the front to appear be in an attic with that great art picture and the colors, it's a classic, Take care friends and see along to another 75 pick. Love hugs and prayers and rock on. Toys In The Attic 305 Uncle Salty 408 Adam's Apple 434 Walk This Way 339 Big Ten Inch Record 210 Sweet Emotion 434 No More No More 435 Round And Round 502 You See Me Crying 512 ---------------------------------------- Pete good choice to Thin Lizzy. Heart, Dreamboat Annie The hit songs really caught me when they came out. Still consider them two of the greatest rock songs. This album ranks higher than today, but I wanted to put it on here after I saw Nancy recall their reaction to seeing the opening act for the 5th dimension in 1969. Some Golden God was singing about squeezing lemons, as a wizard with a violin bow conjured up the spirits. The girls had to leave the venue as they were blushing so much. Nancy was very inspired by Jimmy's acoustic skills. And they mix a good variety of folky sounds with their hard rock on this album.

Bruce Springsteen ... Born to Run Honorable Mention: The Who (and others) ... Tommy Movie Soundtrack In high school, I did not yet find the music I appreciate now. I listened to "deep" music and folk because I was going to be a person of depth. What bullshit. Springsteen's Born To Run combined that deep meaning with the elements of hard rock that I would discover reflected me as an adult. The song Born To Run I discovered on the radio as the weekend kickoff song along with my earlier pick of Earth Quake's cover of the Easybeats Friday On My Mind (co-written by AC/DC's big brother producer George Young, a hint of what was to come for me). During COVID, I found a used cassette copy of Born To Run for a buck before people decided cassettes had value again. I was tripped up by She's the One not fading put in the middle like my old 8-track copy of Born To Run would do. The first kinda deep "art" film I ever saw with my older sister and my future brother-in-law as a tagalong kid brother was The Who's movie of Tommy. The lack of spoken dialogue was definitely different for the fourteen year old me. The highlights was Tina Turner as the Acid Queen, a real mind blower for me back then, and Elton John as the Pinball Wizard. I was still listening to AM Top Forty radio back then. Elton John's version of Pinball Wizard was a big hit, of course. I discovered how they would play Pinball Wizard hourly at a specific time. I thought I discovered a secret of the universe.

Day 13. This has been mentioned numerous times already this month. Deservedly so, as it's one of the most classic albums ever made. Physical Graffiti by Led Zeppelin. What can be said that hasn't been said before. Zeppelin must be one of the most analysed bands ever. As Pete said in his rundown, this is one of Zep's greatest albums, many would say "the" best. So many great and diverse songs. It's got hard rock, it's got blues, it's got folk, it's got pretty much everything. There's probably no one reading this who hasn't heard it, so any superfluous waffle from me is completely unnecessary. So, I'll STFU and let you enjoy the music.

Day 13. David Bowie - Young Americans. 😃👍. Released in March 1975. Bowie called the album’s sound “Plastic Soul.” I love this album through and through. It contains the title track hit and smash hit “Fame” (one of my favorite songs of the 1970s). But deeper tracks (“Win,” “Fascination,” “Right” and “Can You Hear Me”) keep me coming back. David Sanborn’s alto sax is downright killer on this album. Thanks to the works of Luther Vandross on this album, it remains fresh through the decades. 🔥. Rock Always! - Heather

#19 Outlaws - Outlaws Inspired by The Allman Brothers Band and Lynyrd Skynyrd with a little Poco and The Eagles thrown in, this band from Tampa, Florida burst on the scene with this terrific debut album. Led by Hughie Thomasson on lead guitar & vocals, this band played with fire and passion in a three guitar ensemble format. But they leaned more toward Country and away from the Blues. Billy Jones on lead guitar and vocals, Monte Yoho on drums, Frank O’Keefe on bass and Henry Paul on electric and acoustic guitar completed the lineup. “There Goes Another Love Song” starts it off with a great melody, beautiful guitars & fine harmony singing. It’s a very catchy tune that lasts in your memory. “Song For You” is a brilliant guitar workout. It’s a tune that flows so perfectly. I really love this one ! “Song in the Breeze” is another awesome written and performed number. It’s lighthearted in the best way. “It Follows From Your Heart”, “Cry No More” are fine ballads. “Waterhole” is a kickin’ instrumental. It’s only 2 min…but boy is it good ! “Stay With Me” has a sing-along-long quality chorus. “Keep Prayin’ “ & “Knoxville Girl” are pure Country and very well done. The epic “Green Grass & High Tides” at 9:46 closes the album with a “Free Bird” jam that is first rate in every way. Great lyrics combined with excellent harmony guitars make this a stone cold classic ! At about 2:30 the song hits an instrumental section that lasts 2 minutes. It’s as close to nirvana and serendipity as rock music could ever get to. There is another chorus, and the back half of the tune is a full volume jam that is just amazing ! This is a great album for the many styles used by the band. It has great singing, and great playing in equal measure. It will surely bring a smile to your face…guaranteed !!

13) Crack The Sky - Crack The Sky Anyone who has been following SoT for the last couple of years has seen my posts going on about how great this album is, and here I am about to do it again. I heard this album for the first time in a little record store at the Jersey shore in the summer of '76, and I've loved it ever since. An impressive debut, hailed as Album Of The Year by Rolling Stone when it was first released, this record has it all - great musicianship, unpredictable yet accessible arrangements, and clever intelligent lyrics. It's an entrancing mix of skewed, quirky Pop paired with heavy guitar riffs and progressive song structures. Featuring weird Pop-Funk in "She's A Dancer" and "Mind Baby", sentimental yet oddly affecting ballads in "A Sea Epic" and "Robots For Ronnie", and plenty of hyperactive overachieving in "Hold On/Surf City", "I Don't Have A Tie" and "Sleep", this record manages to conjure up off the wall gems at every opportunity. Crack The Sky is a perfect album by a tragically underrated, underappreciated band who never got the fame they deserved. If you haven't already heard it, then you need to as soon as possible. 1) Gary Wright - The Dream Weaver 2) Emmylou Harris - Elite Hotel 3) Black Oak Arkansas - Ain't Life Grand 4) Bob Seger - Beautiful Loser 5) ZZ Top - Fandango! 6) Eagles - One Of These Nights 7) Linda Ronstadt - Prisoner In Disguise 8) Neil Young - Zuma 9) Bob Marley & The Wailers - Live! 10) Strawbs - Ghosts 11) Jethro Tull - Minstrel In The Gallery 12) Angel - S/T 13) Crack The Sky - S/T

# 19 Chris Squire: Fish Out of Water Although the crew of “In the Prog Seat” wasn’t overall that excited about this record a few weeks ago, I still think that it is a fine one and one of the best solo albums of a well-known prog musician. Yes, it lacks a little oomph but it has its lyrical moments and a pleasant atmosphere. # 20 Steely Dan: Katy Lied # 21 Manfred Mann’s Earth Band: Nightingales and Bombers # 22 Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention: One Size Fits All # 23 Neil Young: Tonight’s the Night # 24 Peter Hammill: Nadir’s Big Chance # 25 Be-Bop Deluxe: Futurama # 26 Tangerine Dream: Rubycon # 27 10cc: The Original Soundtrack # 28 Joni Mitchell: The Hissing of Summer Lawns # 29 Jeff Beck: Blow by Blow # 30 Ted Nugent: Ted Nugent # 31 Supertramp: Crisis? Day 13: "Why Can't We Be Friends" was released by War on the Sound City Record label in June of '75. The title track with its politically nuanced lyrics was a single that did well but it was it's follow up single release, the even more infectiously percussive "Low Rider" that rode the airwaves for most of that summer

Another deep one today, Crack The Sky, a great but underappreciated progressive rock band. This album was critically acclaimed in fact Rolling Stone declared this the best debut album of 1975. I didn't realize that management and distribution issues deep-sixed the band everywhere except Baltimore. Lots of play on radio but no records appeared at the stores. If this is new to you, check out the great live releases as well.

Morning/Afternoon everybody, well, again, the weekends seem to get shorter and shorter, so hi-ho, it's back to work I go... Onto a pick that has already had a couple of very good write-ups from others (hi Jerry) and which follows on from my choice yesterday as they gave a mutual band member in common... sort of! MOXY "Moxy" (Polydor/Mercury) The band formed in the early 70s, coming together from other bands who's members would also go in to the likes of Triumph (Gil Moore) abd Goddo, and an early single, "Can't You See I'm A Star" got some positive radio reaction and got them signed to Polydor in Canada. Famously, as others have already explained, an argument between guitarist Earl Kohnson and the sound engineer saw Johnson kicked out of the recording sessions, so a lot of the guitar parts on the album were played by a young guy who just happened to be in the studio next door, by the name of Tommy Bolin. Consequently, part of the fun of listening to the album, aside from the fact that it's just a fabulous slice of North American Mid 70s hard rock, is picking out who plays what! What you get is just shy of 37 minutes of great music, spread over 8 tracks, starting with Fantasy, that builds slowly to a powerful crescendo, through to the closing Out Of The Darkness (Into The Fire), featuring a great riff from Johnson, solo from Bolin and a powerful vocal from lead singer Buzz Shearman. Despite releasing 3 further albums to generally positive reviews and touring with the likes of Sabbath, Boston, Rainbow, The Ramones (?) and Hall & Oates (??), mainstream success eluded them. Shearman left before the 4th album Under The Lights and was replaced by the unknown Mike Rynowski on this more radio friendly album (a direction that didn't suit the band, but which worked for Mike when he changed his name to Reno and joined Loverboy!) only for the band to drift apart. There have been reunions since, formed primarily around Johnson as the only original member left, their last release being 2015's "40 Years And Still Riding High".

Hi Pete & everyone. Dave here. My pick today is FOR EARTH BELOW by ROBIN TROWER. More terrific blues rock from this lesser-known of legendary guitarists. Some liken his style to Hendrix's, but I think he's his own man. And more wonderfully soulful vocals from bassist James Dewar. Today I'm going for an album that feels like a Moody Blues album, but isn't - it's the 'Blue Jays' album by the Moody Blues pairing of Justin Hayward and John Lodge. The Moodies were on a break and several of the members produced solo albums, as well as this one by the duo mentioned above - and this, to my view, is the best of all these mid-seventies albums from the Moodies 'family'. Day 13 Time Honoured Ghosts by Barclay James Harvest Polydor records. Songs with a message often featured on this bands albums, references to the futility of war and the injustices of life. However it wasn't all doom and gloom, on this album a song by Beatles fan John Lees called Titles is made up of titles from various Beatles tunes such as The Long and Winding Road, l Feel Fine and Lady Madonna. Another song written by John on their Welcome To the Show album called John Lennon's Guitar tells the story of borrowing a Gibson guitar actually owned and used by John Lennon whilst they recorded a song called Galadriel from their album Once Again at Abbey Road studios. Favourite tracks here are Jonathan, Moongirl and ln My Life.

My Day 13 pick is an album released on June 10, 1975 and recorded in 1974-1975 at Criteria, Miami, Florida, and the Record Plant, Los Angeles, California and produced by Bill Szymczyk I'm talking about the fourth studio album by American rock band the Eagles,One of These Nights. One of These Nights is the last Eagles album to feature the original lineup of Randy Meisner, Glenn Frey, Don Henley, and Bernie Leadon (along with then-new member Don Felder). Leadon left the band after the album's tour due to his dissatisfaction with the band's shift from country towards a more mainstream rock sound and was replaced by Joe Walsh. The seventh track, "Visions", is the only Eagles song on which lead guitarist Don Felder sang the lead vocals, despite his desire to write and sing more songs.Original vinyl record pressings of One of These Nights (Elektra/Asylum catalog no. 7E-1039) had the following text engraved in the run-out grooves of each album side: Side one: "Don't worry --" Side two: "-- Nothing will be O.K.!" The Eagles and their producer Bill Szymczyk would continue the trend of including such "hidden messages" in the run-out grooves on several subsequent albums. This is the second album by the Eagles to have a Quadraphonic surround sound pressing. It was released on Quadraphonic 8-track tape and CD-4 LP.The cover for the album is an image of an artwork by Boyd Elder, also known as "El Chingadero".[14] Elder knew the Eagles in 1972 when pieces of his work were exhibited in an art gallery in Venice, California; among those who attended the opening were members of the Eagles who performed "Witchy Woman" at the show, an early appearance by the band as the Eagles.[14][15] In 1973, Elder started to create artwork of painted skulls with wings and feathers.[16] Elder was a friend of the album cover designer Gary Burden, who was responsible for the Eagles' three previous albums and was interested in using one of Elder's pieces for this cover.[17] Elder presented two of his works to the Eagles in Dallas in late 1974, one of which was then chosen for the cover of One of These Nights.[18] Later another work of Elder, an image of an eagle's skull, would be used for the cover of Their Greatest Hits album. The painted animal skull motif was also used in the cover for their compilation album The Very Best of,[16] and the skull of One of These Nights was used for the cover of the documentary History of the Eagles. The album cover for One of These Nights is the last Eagles album design on which Burden was involved. He made the skull stand up off the page by debossing large areas together with detailed and elaborate embossing in the wings and feathers. According to Burden, the cover image represents where the band was coming from and where they were going - "The cow skull is pure cowboy, folk, the decorations are American Indian inspired and the future is represented by the more polished reflective glass beaded surfaces covering the skull. All set against the dark eagle feather wings that speak of mysterious powers."[17] The album artwork received a Grammy nomination for Best Album Package. Adams said he had wanted something that sounded "sci-fi" while at the same time suggestive of a traveller, so this banjo-based instrumental struck him as ideal.[8] "Journey of the Sorcerer" was used subsequently for the television series in 1981 (albeit re-recorded), the sequel radio series produced by Above the Title Productions for the BBC in 2003 and 2004, and (re-recorded once again) for the film produced by Disney/Touchstone in 2005. The original version from One of These Nights was used for all original transmissions of all five radio series, and a further version was used for the sixth. The TV adaptation of the series, and also an additional version released on LP record, used an arrangement by Tim Souster. The CD releases of radio series transmitted in 2004 and 2005 used another version arranged by Philip Pope, and recorded by a tribute band The Illegal Eagles,[9] and the 2005 film used a version by Joby Talbot.

Fighting is a great album, coming up later from me, but my choice today is Rush - Caress of Steel, their 3rd album. It's proggy, and also pretty dark & melancholy across the 2 long epics The Necromancer and The Fountain of Lamneth. I like it a lot, but it's kind of a flawed blueprint for the great albums that would follow.

Day 13 (at least it's not a Friday) and today I'm picking DRESSED TO KILL from KISS. I find an almost naive charm about this album from the incongruity of the cover image of the band in their full outlandish make up but dressed in such conservative attire, to the almost bubblegum hard rock of the contents. There's more of a boogie feel to a lot of the material here almost like a US version of Britain's own Status Quo. Just 3 songs from this album feature on the forthcoming Alive set, so it really is an album of deep cuts for the most part. The best known songs being the two parter, Rock Bottom with its delicate acoustic intro followed by the riff driven rock of the main part of the song. There's the grinding, slightly more complex She, one of the heavier songs here and for me one of the highlights of Alive and of course the original studio version of Kiss' ultimate anthem Rock and Roll All Nite. As for the remaining tracks there's the almost pure pop of Anything For My Baby which sounds like it could have come from Unmasked. The likes of Room Service Two Timer, Ladies In Waiting, Getaway, C'mon and Love Me and a personal favourite Love Her All I Can all pass by quickly and don't outstay their welcome, all clocking in at around the 3 minute mark. Yes, it's undeniably simplistic and dumb most of the time but to my ears always brings a smile to my face and ultimately makes me just feel good hearing it.

Good morning (afternoon, evening or night), Pete. Another fine SoT choice. Personal pick today? More southern rock with the third studio album released by this American band on the MCA label in March 1975 - Nuthin' Fancy by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Certified platinum in the U.S and spawned the single Saturday Night Special. The band's first album to reach the top 10 in the U.S. [it hit #9] and also certified platinum in the states. Also charted on the UK, Australia and Canada charts. Perhaps not my favorite of the Skynyrd band but down here in north central Florida, any of the records before the crash are likely to end up on a favorites list. This one makes that cut. Not much more offered on the personnel and other details and Skynyrd assumed to be pretty well known but for those who might be starting, urge you to look at Wikipedia about the band and its discography. Hoping this post makes it today. Thought i had posted yesterday and even the day before but can't seem to find those. So the quick make up on the list is Straight Shooter by Bad Company for yesterday and the awesome Physical Graffiti by Led Zeppelin for the day before. A reminder that this list not in any particular order for the month. Thanks, Pete. Looking forward to your next selection.

Day 13- another artist who released two albums this year (so many were still churning out remarkable albums, consistently strong), and like Rush who I referenced a few days back, I find the first release much stronger than the follow up. Elton John- Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy. Yep, Bitter Fingers, Tower of Babel, someone saved by Life tonight, the title track. Whatever one may think of him personally and his diva tantrums, through the 70's he was prodigous and on top of his game as he and Taupin created one amazing song and album after another. Few, if any, could match him for quality output in a 5 or 6 year period. An outstanding achievement

BATTLE ROYALE #13 BETWEEN FAVORITE ALBUMS OF 1975 & 2024 For this series and all the annual series to follow, I’ve come up with an accurate grading system that allows for an exacting point grading system to determine where a recording accurately falls from best to worst in my personal album collection for that particular year. Here’s that system: F=0; D-=1; D=2; D+=3; C-=4;C=5;C+=6; B-=7; B=8; B+=9; A-=10; A-11; A+=12. Coming in at #19 for favorite albums of 1975…FOR EARTH BELOW by ROBIN TROWER TRACK GRADING 1- SHAME THE DEVIL (HARD ROCK) A- 2-IT’S ONLY MONEY (PSYCHEDELIC ROCK) A- 3-CONFESSIN’ MIDNIGHT (HARD ROCK) A- 4-FINE DAY (HARD ROCK) B+ 5-ALETHEA (HARD ROCK) A- 6-A TALE UNTOLD (HARD ROCK/FUNK/PSYCH) B+ 7-GONNA BE MORE SUSPICIOUS (HARD ROCK) B+ 8-FOR EARTH BELOW (PSYCHEDELIC MUSIC) B+ CUMULATIVE ALBUM SCORE IS 76/8 SONGS=9.50 (B+) Coming in at #19 for favorite albums of 2024…TRUE by JON ANDERSON & THE BAND GEEKS NOTE: All album tracks are of the progressive rock genre. TRACK GRADING: 1- TRUE MESSENGER A- 2-SHINE ON A 3-COUNTIES & COUNTRIES A- 4-BUILD ME AN OCEAN B+ 5-STILL A FRIEND A- 6-MAKE IT RIGHT A 7-REALIZATION PART TWO A 8-ONCE UPON A DREAM A- 9-THANK GOD A CUMULATIVE ALBUM SCORING: 92/9 SONGS=10.222 (A-) “True” sounds exactly like the band “Yes” in their prime. I would have to do a lot of album listening to try to determine exactly where “True” would rank among all of the “Yes” albums. I can say for certain that it would rank near the pinnacle. The members of Yes flow so freely in and out of the band that I can’t help but wonder why Jon Anderson didn’t just call “True” a Yes album. Winner of today’s Battle Royale is TRUE by JON ANDERSON & THE BAND GEEKS. BATTLE ROYALE SCORECARD TO DATE: 1974:2 2024:11

It looks like Kevin B. and I agree. We're both picking Fleetwood Mac's self-titled 1975 album. I used to own it. A box set I own has most of the songs . Buckingham and Nicks hit the ground running. This album has Monday Morning, Rhiannon, Over My Head, Say You Love Me, and Landslide. Then there's more. This album and Rumours are a 1,2 punch! Enjoy the music.

Great album choice there! Yes full of great songs, but like a lot of bands it's their less mentioned songs l love the most, here it's I'm So Afraid. Love that one!

@iainhead9898 Hey Iain! We can't like everything! As for me, I love that kind of music, Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris, Poco, Eagles...

I actually listened to Who Loves you by the Four Seasons and Red Octopus by Jefferson Starship. They were huge that year

Day 13: Nazareth - Hair of the Dog. A top three Nazareth album to me. Sad they didn´t record a big fat double live album around that time period.
