Alcohol helps my anxiety temporarily, then makes it 10x worse the next few days afterwards. It's a toxic relief that is only temporary and makes things MUCH worse in the longrun. It's a horrible habit to get into, I've lost friends, I even lost a relationship. I'm alone because of my mistake, because people couldn't deal with me anymore. I can't really blame them, if I put my self in their position I'm sure it wouldn't be easy dealing with a reckless drunken mess like me.

Same here, friends gone, gf gone, license gone. Been sober for half a year. But you shouldn’t be too tough on yourself, alcohol is a bitch addiction. People around you tend to feel helpless because they are. It’s your fight and your fight alone. It’s possible to change your perspective on it, but it’s tough. It’s about proving to yourself that you can get through bad situations and feelings without it. But ye, that shit takes time. My advice is don’t be too hard on yourself when you relapse, just pick it again and be proud of your dryness atm😅

I am 5 days sober and it's already starting. By that I mean getting stronger physically, emotionally, and intellectually. I hate this poison and let it control me when I am damn sure that the greatest chance at happiness lies without it. Depression starts to lessen without booze to fuel it. I have great respect for those that stay sober and they deserve it.

Holy. Crap. The statement “nobody thinks about me as much as I do” made me fall out of my chair laughing!!! Like DUH. I’ll have to remind myself of that hourly from here on. I used to be painfully self-conscious in my teens. Now it’s evolved into “just not as ‘good’ as everyone else.” Like WHO??!? Who else?? Who is everyone? Thank you so much. Hearing that statement was liberating.

OMWtoRighteousness &Glory yea and unfortunately if you notice when alcohol first start hitting your bloodstream or it gets to your head it gives you this feeling of presence and focus, that’s why a lot of anxiety sufferers unfortunately go to alcohol, the brain remembers this feeling and that’s why we go back to it we’re already trained

This video was so comforting to watch man. I’ve been dealing with social/general anxiety since my early teenage years and eventually started drinking about 2 years ago to deal with it and still am unfortunately. In the past 3 months I went from being able to comfortably go to work and be out in public to a complete state of utter panic at all times even while alone at my house without alcohol. This perfectly describes everything.

At present am struggling to get sober for any length of time and have still have some major crap in my life, so I think that giving up the booze will be hard! W need to get to the root of the problem. Anxiety is increased with abuse of alcohol consumption. We all have to face life ups and down every day, turn to God instead of alcohol. It takes a strong person to overcome drugs and alcohol, with God in your life you get your strength. When we use drugs and alcohol it causes long term dependency and more problems.

I’m commenting on this but haven’t actually watched it yet. Let me tell you alcohol in the worst drug out there and partly as it’s legal. , it’s the best and worst friend you will ever have. It relieves anxiety and then feeds it. From experience when you stop drinking you will go into that dark dark place, I check in there around. 3am every day, it can be constant but normally starts in the early hours when your body wakes you up begging for a drink, every issue is a problem , every problem is a crisis, every crisis in unbearable , and anything unbearable results in a headline. Been there, still there sometimes, but I will win . Eventually I’m subscribing either way Excessive Alcohol does definitely create anxiety which creates depression which creates panic , I’m plagued by these issues, I don’t want any sympathy for it but it does exist . Anxiety, depression, panic are part of a roundabout that you ride until you get off, eg, stop drinking, then it gets worse and is hellish at best. Then gets better and it’s the best feeling in the world

The "what ifs" come about as I don't know where I will reside after sober living. I'm going to work on reminding myself that it is not real and that my mind is playing tricks on me to scare me. It's going to take daily practice, but one day will overcome my anxiety/fear. ***I've been wanting to drink to calm myself and would have forfeited my sobriety and the work I've accomplished. This is a journey and need to take this one day, minute, second at a time. :')

Thank you so much Marcus, this was like a great AA meeting; I'm a bit stuck because I broke my leg so definitely found the right place. In the words of the late great Tom Petty, "most things I worry about, never happen anyway', bless him. And you. Sober 5 yrs and gratitude list every day. Just one more point because I don't want people to rush into recovery without protection; get a physical. I don't know any alcoholic who doesn't suffer from hypoglycemia - low blood sugar as you know -- which will trigger the jitters so eat healthy. I know old timers in the program who think I'm full of it but I stopped caffeine and desserts and as soon as I was able got back to my responsibilities -- I was lucky that someone took my beloved dog out during that period but now it's a joy and a privilege to brave the elements (in Canada I mean that literally) together with my tiny dancer who thinks she's Northern Dancer and her optimism and joy never fails to cheer me up. Tx again my friend!

I wouldn't wish anxiety on my worst enemy, not only does it get you down and turns your brain inside out but it can cause so many health problems and go so far to heart attacks but it can get so out of control people end up killing themselves or others. Ive had help by talking to people, taking CBD oil and quitting the booze. If i didnt do those things id probably not be here. The mind is the most powerful part of the body.. dont waste it.

I can see your point of view of not being able to control the everyday situations you're in, and how that can cause anxiety, but for those of us who have anxiety from past experiences, and not present/future experiences, it just does not make sense to me. I have issues with forgiving myself for things I have done in the past and because of that, I cannot help but dwell on those horrible memories every single day, all day. Almost to the point where I'm not concerned about my future, and only concerned about forgetting the past. No matter what I do, these thoughts always come back.

Really dig these videos, thanks, I have been gathering wisdom as you call if from a multiple of resources and I would say I am more confident in my ability to quit by shining light on how bad it could progress to, even if it's just or mainly because it is changing your brain chemistry, so figured best thing for me is to just nerd up, stop drinking firstly (on 2nd day after binder), and going to hang out with some AA's later, kind of looking forward to it, learning seems to give a lot more power then all the labeling I used to do about myself and my past and genetics, like all that's probably true, but that doesn't do shit for that brain reaction, so I figure focus on the brain, I like my chances, cool info. I like how I made this all about me....however I guess that's what you asked for haha, keep making them, and I will keep watching them.

This is spot on and very helpful... for me...not everyone... some have much much bigger problems to escape from...but a very good first step positive video...well explained.

I drank once every 90 days for the last 3 years but back in May I drank for 2 days in a row then after that 2 day binge I was unable to sleep for 8 days and I haven't felt the same since my last binge. Now it's been almost 3 months since I drank and I still can't sleep and I feel super depressed and very anxious. What happened to me? I am 32 and I have never been on medications or anything. I just want to get fixed.

Thanks for help, a portion near the end I closed my eyes and found myself just listening to the words your teaching. Breathing slowly and deeply, learning to calm my self down just letting the words sink in is enough to get me started on my path to sobriety. Thanks again for sharing your experience and knowledge. After watching this video I can definitely say I am more hopeful now than ever on succeeding with sobriety and overcoming my struggle and addiction.
