Alcohol Ink And Transparencies

I thoroughly enjoyed this technique! I've done something similar on 5x7 glossy photo paper and alcohol inks and the effects have been incredible! But I love the transparency method because the plastic can be used for so many different projects, especially for scrapbooking and photo albums. Thank you so much for your wonderful tutorial! Great video!! Are you a teacher? It was so organized and helpful. I am playing with alcohol inks on shrinky dink sheets. Really appreciate the tip about rubbing alcohol cleaning the ink off your skin.

Very well demonstrated is it possible to stick these transparencies to tiles to use as coasters . Your easy to follow step by step instructions is awesome. More please thanks

+lux rajan glad you enjoyed the video! You can try adhering the transparency pieces to tiles using a permanent, clear adhesive. I would place the decorated side of the transparency against the tile just to protect the design from water or any wiping of the surface you might do to dry the coasters off. Let me know how they turn out! :)

Thanks Michelle for your answer to my question. The reason I asked about how these transparencies dry is, I have experimented with watercolor on photo paper, of which I have an abundance. After they dry, I have to use fixative to keep the color from running. I assume that alcohol inks dry better - love the affects you get. Can I use acetate for my transparencies? That's all I have. Again thanks.

+Sheila Mancini Yes, you can use acetate and the alcohol inks will dry perfectly well on the acetate. It is the chemical make up of the alcohol inks that allow them to dry and stay on non-porous surfaces. You can also use the alcohol inks on other non-porous surfaces like white plastic sheets/recycled white plastic pieces! Have fun with them! Michelle :)

Do you spray the transparencies to keep them from smearing? What do you use? They are beautiful and would love to try them.

+Sheila Mancini Hi Sheila! Thanks for your question! I actually don't spray them with anything after they dry. The alcohol ink is designed for non-porous surfaces, so it does not smear after it is dry. I try not to put the ink on in too thick of a layer because then I find it has a hard time drying completely. Hope this helps! Happy creating! :)

My ink doesn't come close to looking like that when dripped. Is yours like really "watered" down??? Mine looks nearly black until I use a straw, or alcohol sprayed on to dilute.

Thanks for your question! I have found that different colors and different brands of alcohol inks have different characteristics and will look and react differently with one another and on different surfaces. Many of the Ranger/Adirondack inks seems to be "thinner" and more fluid. This also seems to be the case with Copic Various reinkers. I find the Jacquard Pinata alcohol inks to be "thicker" and I will also add alcohol, extender or blending solution in order to make them "thinner" and more transparent. Like you, I will also use a straw or compressed air to spread different inks on the surfaces as well in an effort to thin the color. I hope this helps! Keep experimenting! :)

Thanks for asking! I just used small glue dots in each of the four corners. They disappear under all of the color!
