I've closed the studio door, pulled out all the materials needed and I'm about to indulge myself in an afternoon of what I call "Inky Pleasures". My regret is not having purchased more alcohol based re-inkers. Thanks again for always being so inspiring.

These turn out pretty. Though you should definitely never spray the blending solution, as the resins in it will stick to and coat your lungs. Tim Holtz & Ranger have put out that warning. Just letting you know. Glad you say you wear a mask.
@lollthompson73576 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the warning. That is why I mention at the beginning of the write-up to wear a mask. Any chemicals are dangerous when sprayed into the air. Mask should also be worn if using rubbing alcohol as well.
@coolstamper4 жыл бұрын
JenDragonfly You are right...blending solution when sprayed can actually damage your eyes and lungs, whereas alcohol in a spray can sting your eyes, but will do no damage to your eyes or your lungs.

Hi Emily. I use both Ranger and Pinata brand alcohol inks. I do have a couple of bright and bold colour combinations that I love. 1) Mermaid, Botanical (Ranger) and Sapphire (Pinata). If you only have Ranger brand, substitute a deep, bright blue for the Pinata. 2) Wild Plum, Sunbright Yellow (Ranger) and Tangerine (Pinata). Loll :)

Beautiful cards. I'll be using similar techniques for some of my Christmas cards this year. I think I saw you post a warning about using the Blending Solution in a mister. It can cause dangerous health issues. I use alcohol in a mister, but never the Blending Solution. I don't think it's the alcohol that it contains that is the problem. I think it contains resins which are dangerous to breathe.
@DonnaJo34526 жыл бұрын
Linda DesGroseilliers I just looked on Ranger’s website rangerink.com/?product=tim-holtz®-adirondack®-alcohol-blending-solution, and it says it’s the alcohol in them that causes the problem but I have also heard, from Tim I think, that the problem is with the resins, as you described too. I missed the part where you said you wear a mask--I’m glad you do :-). I do it in a well ventilated area but I don’t use alcohol inks very much. But I’m about to with the new lift-ink pad that Ranger has come out with :-).

On our last inked piece of blue and green , how did you get the large lighter circles in it? Thank you
@lollthompson73577 жыл бұрын
Those light circles are silver alcohol inks. They are a metallic ink that you need to shake well before adding. They react differently than regular alcohol inks. Hope that helps. Loll :)

Threw some ranger alcohol inks and distress oxides (without blending solution) onto YUPO this afternoon at about 5pm.... it's now 2am and they still aren't dry - I even went over all 3 of them with my heat gun at 8-9pm & zip-nada, still wet.... "dries quick", my arse! 😂
@lollthompson73576 жыл бұрын
Distress Oxides will take days to dry on Yupo. If you used just alcohol inks, it would have dried in a few minutes.
@suedunlop30406 жыл бұрын
You should NEVER mist blending solution EVER. Tim Holts always says that. If you inhale it it sticks to the lining of your lungs..
@deborahanne97937 жыл бұрын
Wow, great video! Is blending solution the same as buying rubbing alcohol in a bottle? Cards are really gorgeous! Thank you
@lollthompson73577 жыл бұрын
Hi Deborah. Rubbing alcohol will work with the inks, but blending solution is a little different reaction. Both are good, but they are different. Loll :)
@deborahanne97937 жыл бұрын
Thank you, you are a very good artist!
@debbietramundanas65186 жыл бұрын
Loll Thompson Alcohol is way cheaper. But you will want to have both handy while you are working with alcohol inks! They react a little different, than each other. With practice you will get to instinctively know which one to use in your situation, on your own painting. Many times I use both in a single painting.

How did you make the blue leaves?
@lollthompson73574 жыл бұрын
The leaves are done by smooshing a few colour alcohol inks (deep blue, light blue, green) and then when dry, spraying with blending solution, which creates all the dotty texture. Make sure to wear a mask if you are spraying blending solution.
@TheMotocross644 жыл бұрын

@iamgiatho6 жыл бұрын
You are correct! 👍 YUPO (p: yoo-poh) is a Japanese-made synthetic paper, made from extruded polypropylene pellets. The YU in YUPO, comes from Mitsubishi Yuko, Japan (aka the Mitsubishi Petrochemical Company), the P is for Paper & the O is for the Oji Paper Company.

Great video. But Please, don't put alcohol blending solution in spray bottle. Even Tim Holtz says NOT to do that. The spray goes into your lungs and adheres to them, and that is not a good thing. I'm sorry, I don't mean to be a downer, just don't want to hear that people are doing this and injuring their lungs. Sorry. I wasn't going to mention it but I then thought that if you knew this you wouldn't do it or recommend it either.

@judithf92975 жыл бұрын
You also don't suppose to spray the blending solution, alcohol is fine but not blending solution because it has other chemical components, and if you inhale it, it can stick to your lungs. Since you present a warning about precautions you suppose to know this
@mpbailey18 Жыл бұрын
I know this is an old video, BUT everyone in the business says DO NOT SPRAY BLENDING SOLUTION...EVER! It is dangerous!!
