4:32 Treatment of Alcoholism
Alcoholism is, broadly, any drinking of alcohol that results in significant mental or physical health problems.[14] Alcoholism is not a recognized diagnostic entity. Predominant diagnostic classifications are alcohol use disorder[2] (DSM-5)[4] or alcohol dependence (ICD-11).[15]
Excessive alcohol use can damage all organ systems, but it particularly affects the brain, heart, liver, pancreas and immune system.[4][5] Alcoholism can result in mental illness, delirium tremens, Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome, irregular heartbeat, an impaired immune response, liver cirrhosis and increased cancer risk.[4][5][16] Drinking during pregnancy can result in fetal alcohol spectrum disorders.[3] Women are generally more sensitive than men to the harmful effects of alcohol, primarily due to their smaller body weight, lower capacity to metabolize alcohol, and higher proportion of body fat.[11] In a small number of individuals, prolonged, severe alcohol misuse ultimately leads to frank dementia.
Environmental factors and genetics are two factors affecting risk for alcoholism, with about half the risk attributed to each.[4] Someone with a parent or sibling with alcoholism is three to four times more likely to become an alcoholic themselves, but only a minority of them do.[4] Environmental factors include social, cultural and behavioral influences.[17] High stress levels and anxiety, as well as alcohol's inexpensive cost and easy accessibility, increase the risk.[4][7] People may continue to drink partly to prevent or improve symptoms of withdrawal.[4] After a person stops drinking alcohol, they may experience a low level of withdrawal lasting for months.[4] Medically, alcoholism is considered both a physical and mental illness.[18][19] Questionnaires are usually used to detect possible alcoholism.[4][20] Further information is then collected to confirm the diagnosis.[4]

I am glad I don't drink alochol at all. My friends laugh at me for not 'man' enough just because I don't drink and don't drive my motorcycle fast. I value my life and my loved ones. If that's mean I am not 'man enough' then so be it.

I'm sure your friends have their grate moments and take this with a grain of salt cuz I'm a stranger on the internet, but peer pressure is a very shitty thing to have within a friend group.

Big conversation that. I used to get smashed and be miserable by many factors. Truth be told, there are reasons for a person to drink but unfortunatelly alcohol solves nothing and abusing it just makes everything worse. I don't drink much anymore, only when i get in touch with my drinker friends, but every time it's less and less and this is how it should be.

sticking to what you deem as healthy and fruitful is more manly than drinking your sorrows away, or telling your mates they're pussys for not drinking

Alcoholism: Can be brought on by an arrange of many things as forms of pattern plays, sense of loss, relationship problems, infidelity, traumatise, loneliness, worrying, sadness (Greif) etc... Learning how to pace you to a moderate and steady flow that captures the state of mind, and say to it: I’ve had enough time to stand up straight and head home and all the way. Don’t drink and drive, and NO MATTER WHAT?

When I start I don't stop, until I wake up the next morning trying to figure out where I was and what I did, once I find my phone and car keys. So therefore I stay away, and 'drinking respinsibky' doesn't work, alcohol is a drug so that's like saying 'snort/inject responsibility'

The correct term is alcohol use disorder. Smokers don't get labelled as nicotineholic. Or drug users as drugolic. So why must drinkers have a label?

Drinking is forbidden in Islam. Do you know how many crimes, murders, accidents, problems that happen because of drinking around the world? Too much! But guess what? It is forbidden for a muslim to drink but God promised it in paradise! Allah says in Quran [the English translation of the arabic meanings of Quran] : (The description of the Paradise promised to the righteous is that in it are rivers of fresh water, rivers of milk that never changes in taste, rivers of wine delicious to drink, and rivers of pure honey. There they will ˹also˺ have all kinds of fruit, and forgiveness from their Lord. ˹Can they be˺ like those who will stay in the Fire forever, left to drink boiling water that will tear apart their insides?) chapter 47, verse 15 And a fact that The wine of the hereafter is much better than the one of this world!!

Anyone suffering from over consumption, binge drinking or alcoholism..ask your doctor to put you on naltrexone. There are adverse affects in rare cases, but it is a medicine you take that will make you sick if you use. Reprogram your poor and bad behavior. Good luck.

Apples, ripe apples, we'll pick from the trees, But cider - no cider for us, if you please. Grapes, purple grapes, for your eating and mine, But we'll turn down our glasses where pours the red wine. Barley, fresh barley, we'll welcome as bread, But when made into beer it is poison instead. We'll enjoy all the good things God maketh to grow, When men change them to poisons, we'll bravely say, "No."
