At intermission, it was announced to the audience that Carlos was suffering from voice problems but was going to sing the work anyway. I tried to, but couldn't enjoy it as much, because I was worrrying about Carlos and his voice, and hope it wasn't going to crack, or something.

@@JosephDoody1 23:47 He begins on a B natural. It is supposed to be a C. Even John Fisher sings it incorrectly afterwards.

@@heizukowsky nah that's a c. As in his rendition of the whole aria, it's perhaps a little scoopy (the consonant pitched slightly lower - I don't mind it tbh) but definitely the note is C.
@heizukowsky2 жыл бұрын
@@JosephDoody1 But the value of the note is still wrong. Its half the length should it be a C. Look at the score.
@JosephDoody12 жыл бұрын
@@heizukowsky ok now I see your confusion... It's an alternative that (rightly or wrongly) some tenors have employed to allow them to take the phrase to a high A (as he does), instead of the G (the same peak as the earlier phrase). You're quite right about the rhythm, of course, which is changed for the same reason.

Pretty, but even a leggiero or tenore di grazia must address the appoggio and passaggio in the classical technique, otherwise too close to pop singing. You gave a little in the first chiedo and the last. But essentially ignored it throughout the aria. It is what separates from each other. But pretty.

So many problems that can't write down.. at the beginning ...furtiva.. should go down and up.. goes up and down... Negli occhi suoi spunto doesn't just go right. And some or more things then. But then "...sembro.." what was that low part? He lost the air and just tried to survive or what? As a whole, the singing is thin and uninteresting. A karaoke kind of. Ask yourself, would you buy a record? Che più - the più should be more (or least as much) dominant as Che but can't see it. And so on and so on.. Anyway, he is a singer but there are thousands of similar singers. By the way, I didn't even realise he was singing the cadence, I must have slept Maybe we should have some web site for adequate singers. We all can't be Carusos.
@kentst89564 жыл бұрын
It seems that this young man is doing a bang-up job in this master class. This is a learning environment ... "progress not perfection". I enjoyed hearing this process a great deal! I can't imagine buying a record of Caruso either. I have this theory that all these singers from bygone eras weren't nearly as good as we make them out to be, and we would be quite disappointed if we could hear what they really sounded like. Take the following recording for example, ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/r2rWdaZrfpKXirM ) I find Caruso's tempo painfully slow and he takes enormous liberties with the rhythm practically destroying the rhythmic pulse in places. I also find his vibrato to be uneven and quite unpleasant, not to mention that he is frequently slightly under pitch. Maybe I would feel different if I could hear him today live, but I'm guessing I wouldn't.
