Classic80sStuff You asking me if I work for Aldi? No, I'm a software development and systems design manager with a major IT company. I have 2 computer based degrees and can code in 4 languages. I'm defending this little stereo, because it's getting unfair flak just because of its price. I've just bought two. Why? One for the kitchen and one for my boat or caravan. I have a multi-room SONOS setup, and a 7.2, Atmos enabled Sony STRDN1080 AV setup for 4k ultra and normal bluray audio. I could be an audio snob too, but a bargain is a bargain. I know good audio, this little unit is convenient and sounds decent

Just thought I'd add my experience as a child with those 3-button players. I got one for Christmas from Boots and I was counting down the days, I was so excited. On Christmas day it chewed up every tape I put in it, so we took it back and I was taken to Tandy where I was bought a "Realistic" walkman. I was not a happy bunny at the time, the Boots thing was all 80s designed and cool like the model my friends had but here was this big bulky rectangular thing from Tandy that wasn't cool and required twice the batteries. How wrong I was though, it was built like a tank, it had rewind, I think it even had pause, it went ear-bleedingly loud and the mechanism was really good. Not knowing any better I even ran it off my Spectrum 9V power pack despite its input being 6V DC and it would run beautifully. Long, long after my friends cheap chinese crap had fallen to pieces my Realistic unit was still going strong.

As you state "here on the world" they are called "figure of eight" lead (which is reasonable enough) in Germany, many people very wrongly call them "Rasierer-Kabel" (electrical shaver cable) because many electrical shavers some while ago came with similar shaped plugs and the term stuck. The shaving equipment plug was not standardized to my knowledge, I mainly saw it on equipment by the Braun-Company and it was a lot smaller then the Fig8 plug. It also was missing the 2 indents and was more of a "figure of 0". Just wanted to be the annoying guy sharing that totally useless piece of information :). Cheers.

nows the time in the uk to be going to bootfairs and pick up a 80s or 90s boombox for around £5-£10
@chrisbomber1017 жыл бұрын
techmoan has already proved that with the right cassette player and cassettes you can get very very good sound playback, its all in the player and the type of tape used in the cassette :-)
@chrisbomber1017 жыл бұрын
if you looking for a player best to go with something old school (80s 90s) then a modern reproduction

Hi @Techmoan. Aldi have these back in stock again I just noticed on Friday (15th June). I know it isn't brilliant, but would you say it's overall worth it for occasional tape playing in the background?

Be better off buying an old 80's one and replacing the belts and cleaning the lot up.

You don't say?!!!! This was a video on a cassette deck in 2017, the main point of the video was "Look here's a cassette player in 2017" Not "Get a 2017 one because the old ones are garbo" What a cretin

Except it wouldn't have SD, USB and Bluetooth...

+Sir Anon "Get a 2017 one because the old ones are garbo" That sentence actually explains how those so-called trendy Malaysians react over an object (that released since 2000s or earlier).

Just catching up on all your (mostly audio) videos from day 1 and have reached this stage without yet commenting. I feel I must applaud you on all your good work in these videos as they are very professionally executed, informative and a pleasure to watch. I must say here that the ‘Retro Grooves’ tape used here is either very thin tape or that machine was trying to eat it. There were some ‘Double Play’ pre recorded cassettes available in the 80’s which I bought and found some machines like this (and even some more upmarket Panasonic equipment) would put a long crease down the centre of the tape where it wasn’t seating in the deck properly and thus produced that phasing ‘loss of treble’ effect whilst it was destroying your tape 😩 These are basically cassette versions of the portable Crosby record players that have become all the rage with (mainly) non audio enthusiasts . One last thing , could you please tell me (or put up a link) to the Inflation Calculator you use in a lot of these videos as I like it. Tried several but like the look of the one you use . Keep up the good work 👍🏻

Not the same model, not even close. so much for your smart-arsed comment. I've just bought two of these, absolutely excellent for the kitchen, boat, caravan etc. I hate snob comments. Read my little review. There is NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING wrong with this smart little stereo, does everything well, sounds good, with decent volume, well made, all functions work great.

Thank you for the instant review, even though I doubt we get this in a US version. I kind of hope we do as it would make a good unit to leave in the shop.
