Alec Steele I was only curious about your age because I knew you would be young but what you've accomplished at 19 is truly astounding. Most 19-year-olds are whining about having to work or are living off mom and dad. You're an outstanding role model and you have an excellent work ethic so keep up the excellent work.

Alec. Do you have any idea of how inspiring your story is? To be 19 and know what you know and to have accomplished what you have. Young man even though I do not know you personally, which I regret, I am very proud of you and your accomplishments. Just for your info I have great grand kids older than you and I am not as proud of them. I am 73 and will be 74 in October. I plan to start Black smithing with a friend this spring when our shoulders are in better shape.

I can feel nothing but pride for you. I feel your hard work because I'm 21 and I run a business of myself of tanning and exporting leather. if people aren't inspired by you to get off their asses and start working harder, I don't think anything else can. keep up the great work.

I signed up for a class here in town, and while it's not smithing, it is a class in how to build, and maintain a 2 burner gas forge. Thank you for what you do, and I someday hope to travel to the UK and take a class from you.

Anyone with the desire to follow in his footsteps, be it building your own business to becoming a successful YT'er, I ask that you rewatch his videos. Pay close attention to everything he does/says. There are great business tips sprinkled about in a large number of his vlogs. Like finding a commission job that paid enough for him buy one of his pieces of equipment, which in turn made that job 10 times easier. MOST importantly, pay attention to his personality. This is the kind of guy you want to emulate. If he were looking for a job... wouldn't you hire him? If you were looking for a job wouldn't you want to find a boos like him?

I think your achievements are to be lauded. I'm a high school dropout and caught a lot of grief from folks who thought I must be dumb as a rock. Never had a solid career but I worked as an electrician helper, plumbers helper, construction, and as a press brake operator forming metal up to 1/2 inch thick. That's when I learned that I was so wrong in thinking metal was a solid..lol. Education comes in many forms and the classroom isn't for everyone. I like the experience of learning and your videos are excellent for people to see that you don't have to be an expert. Trial and error is a great way to learn. You learn more from mistakes than anything else, and it is inspiring to see that even when you face a problem, you think outside the box to come up with solutions. Good on you and here's to many more years of success! BTW, I hope you aren't a coffee drinker with all that energy, lol, you might have a stroke.

I asked myself all these questions in my head, but I'm still new to your channel and in awe of your work. Most of my comments indicate as much, but I guessed you were between 19-24. Honestly your youth just makes you that much more of an inspiration. I started late last year on gathering tools for my little work shop, and started the remodel to build it in my basement this year, but I've had an itch to start my own KZbin for years, and watching you has helped me find my niche. I'm a long way from anything you've built for yourself, and getting started much later in my life, but you've taught me its never too late or in your case, too early, to follow your passion and make something for yourself in life. Thank you once again for the content you provide and I look forward to watching much more. Who knows, maybe one day we'll be able to do a collaboration. Maybe a reach beyond my goals, maybe a new goal worth setting for myself.

Started blacksmithing when I was 17, Handful of years later and just never enough time to just sit down and go at it for hours on end. Pain of living in the city (and trying to hammer steel without my neighbors beating me with a broom for making too much noise) and juggling the time I spend on University with wanting to make something new at my forge. Oh right and i can just divide all the free time i might have in half as I have an outdoors forge with minimal protection from the elements and as i live in Canada one can expect that winter might put a bit of a stopper on these activities (not manly enough to ignore the cold). Long story short its great to see someone doing what they love and as a bonus its something I enjoy as well so more fun for me.

@@mikek6298 Interesting assumption. I know several hobby woodworkers without "good disposable income". Furthermore, you don't need a lathe or the finest wood to be a woodworker. Most people in developed countries have disposable income but prefer to spend it on things that bring instant gratification. Some will buy the latest iPhone, weed, beer, and a car they cant afford. Without a doubt, Alec does not spend his money this way.

Hey, good for you. My brother went to welding school while still in highschool (15 yrs). First week, instructor commented " you are pretty good. Almost like someone who has welded for 10 yrs." Well, since he, too, had spent time with Dad in the shop, he started early. He told the instructor "well, sir, it actually has been 10 yrs. I laid my first bead when I was 5." After that, whenever the instructor had a special project, he assigned it to my brother.

You have a passion, I can appreciate and admire that. Please be careful of your health and balance with some holiday. I have worked hard all my life and have worked myself to the point if being physically disabled (hence college) I never took time off or vacations, as we call holiday, and wish now that I had. It is great to see that not all youths are wasters! We had a sensible youth at work who was into farming and had been repairing and selling tractors since he was 13. At 18 he bought a plot of land in Warwickshire for circa £90,000 using £40,000 savings from tractor selling, and a mortgage. Now he is 30 and his plot of land is stocked with a dozen cows, a couple of hundred sheep, hundreds of chickens, 3 sheep dogs, and a wife! He is also half way through constructing a self build oak beam house and his little empire is now worth circa £ 1,000,000. So congrats to all you decent hard working youngsters everywhere.

The reason people are curious/confused/up in arms about your age, besides the tremendous level of talent you've developed so young, is that most people don't project authority and self confidence like you do until they're much older. People are too busy screwing around in their teens, then they're too busy working their way up through a career ladder in their 20s and 30s where they've got bosses and bosses' bosses telling them what to do at every turn, and they're not "allowed" to be the authority or to be in charge of anything until they're much older. Dropping out of school to pursue something like this is a risk with downsides, but you're killing this and, me personally, I'm rooting for you and hoping to see great success in the future.

I wanted to chime in with you and some other craftworking creators have inspired to take my leather hobby and try to make a go at being a full time craftworker. It really shows how much you have put into learning the trade. Your parents must be praised for not crushing your dreams, and supporting your quest to be a craftsman in the 21st century. While I will openly admit I refer to you as that youtube blacksmith kid, I respect the hell out of your iron work and your videos. Hell as someone twice your age I value your opinion and experiences. I even have a question reinvestment into your business? How, what, when? I can see you have chosen to reinvest when it comes to tools what strategy do you use when looking to reinvest?

growing up, parents always stressed about getting an education, that you need it to get somewhere in life, to enjoy life. well, did two years at a university and called it quits. completed a 4yr skilled trades job and am doing quite well. Good to see that you followed your heart and love what you do. you are very inspirational. have been curious about your age since I first came across your page and now knowing you are still in your teens is awesome. you have a big life ahead. keep doing what you love.

I think Alec's success is a combination of his brutal honesty and self deprecating humor along with infectious facial expressions and positive exhortations coupled with massive energy, drive and talent balanced with humility. Very mature at your ripe old age my friend. No, I think he lied about how much sleep he gets ;-) I think he needs to be a judge on UK's got talent.

Alec, You are to be congratulated for all you have achieved. Building a business is a lot of hard work and considerable risks. Building your workshop and the equipment as you need is the best way to go, and seeking out bargains is admirable. You are an inspiration to so many. You have built a career, a business and a life style doing something you clearly have a deep passion for. I wish you well.

Completely. Blown. All that you've accomplished in only 8 years, Wow. And here I am, 38, thinkin that you were at least in your late 20's to early 30's. God Damn that's impressive! Hey man, I got out of school on my 16th birthday cause I just felt bored, like intellectual stagnation bored. Went to college and found that it was basically high school with frills. After trying a variety of occupations over the decade that followed, I learned I’m amazing at sales but I still find that I’m yearning to do something with substance. Been watching your vids for a bit now and I must say you’ve inspired me to give blacksmithing a go.

With it being 2019 as of now... you are, (depending on your birthday) either 20 or 21 and as a 29 year old man, I've gotta say that I am insurmountably impressed and inspired by your gusto and work ethic. There aren't many people, as young as you, willing to be as productive as you, and certainly aren't nearly as happy about hard work as you. But the point of my comment is mainly to say this... Wow! You are extremely dedicated and you will, without a doubt, become one of the best blade-smiths there are. Passing even Jerry Fisk.

I like this kid; I really like this kid. He seems to be really honest, sincere, and motivated, not to mention humble! He's not afraid to give credit where credit is due. I have a son his age, who could learn a lot from him. I don't remember how I found his channel, but I'm glad I did. I really enjoy watching his videos, having gone through the katana, karambit, chef's knife and other series. I wish him all the best and hope that his business stays successful, so that he can achieve his goal of getting married and having a family.

Alec, your passion for your craft is truly an inspiration, and the trades have been overlooked for some time in favor of academia. watching your work had inspired my long held interest in smithing. I would love to see a video about the very basics of setting up a hobbyist forge. I've been reading some conflicting reports about the coffee can forges etc. perhaps you could chime in? All the best in a FANTASTIC career in smithing!

The thoughts that go through your head when you start watching Alec Steele: "Jeez, how old is this kid? - He could be anything from 15-35 years old!. A british blacksmith on KZbin? - that's a first, but I love the accent. Oh, he's actually quite talented. Wow, that guy can swing a sledge.. And three to four videos later: My man A to da S is the best blacksmith ever! Huge respect from an amateur blacksmith from Denmark. I really enjoy watching your videos, and I have huge admiration for the dedication you put in to building your business! On another note; Alec, if you have the time and the interest, could you forge a dane axe or an Ulfberht? Kind regards
