As a hard-core crafter, as you can tell, I delight in finding materials to craft with that might normally go into the recycle bin. I have never professed to reducing the world's waste with my crafting addiction but I'm sure having a fun time doing it :) Craft on! [Tiffany]

Yes, you can absolutely use a scrap piece of cardstock. I used the brown bag because I like how it is soft yet durable and holds the embossing very well! [Tiffany]

Yes! You can absolutely use a bone folder and corner punch. (I don't happen to have either of those so that's why I used pen and scissors :) [Tiffany]

You can also use Aleene's Tacky Glue but remember that you will need to let it dry for several days before embossing or else it will squish out during that step :) [Tiffany]

Great idea! Is there another way to make the patterns without using the machine?

Karen Bennett you can use a stylus and draw in your own designs. Or you can lay a small stencil over the earring and trace around the pattern lines. The designs won't be as deeply embossed but will show up in the foil. [Tiffany]

Why the brown paper on the inside? Why not just plain layers of foil? I'd probably just use a scrap piece of card stock or an old Christmas card (dated but unused) on the inside. Would that work well?

Tiffany would mod podge work for this instead of the Sticky paper?

@loriayres - I would think that Mod Podge would work if you get it at the right time when it is almost dry enough to hold the texturing but not too dry that it is brittle. [Tiffany]

Can you just use glue to put the papers together if you let it dry?

Yes you can use regular Aleene's Tacky Glue and let it dry completely before embossing. Just quicker with the glue sheets! [Tiffany]

Do you ever get problems with the earring slipping out of the jump ring, as the rings are split? It's something I've always had difficulty with when making thin pieces of jewellery and I've yet to find an alternative that works.

Be sure that you open the jump rings from side-to-side, do not pull them apart to open.

Is it alright if I sell designs based on this technique? I just suddenly got a million ideas running through my head, and I'm starting a jewelry business as soon as I get the ideas straightened out. I have alternative finishing methods in mind, and want to know if it would be ok to mention where I got my ideas.

Oh definitely! I recently looked at Michaels for the adhesive sheets, I expected them to be really pricey, but they were under $10! I'm so excited to start this project next month (after payday...)

I know you are selling a product (the tacky paper), but can't you use the thicker brown paper you get for sending packages (I get it in the dollar store) rather than glue 3 pieces of this? It's thicker. also how can you press the pattern without the machine?

laurel sandoval I have used both Sizzix or Spellbinders cutting machines and they both have texture plates to use with their machines. [Tiffany]

Instead of using a marker use a bone folder and instead of rounding the corners with scissors you could use a corner punch

You can use alcohol inks to make great colours which marry well onto the foil!!!!!

It's ridiculous to use these expensive double stick sheets ($14.12 for 5 sheets) just to put together 3 pieces of brown paper & 2 pieces of foil! Crafters know better how to save money, and they would use cardboard and glue that will cost just a few cents.

Hey Nessy! That's what's so cool about crafting. We can substitute any materials that we want. What I love about the sheets is that you don't need to wait for the glue to dry so I can make this type of project much quicker! And for me, the cost of the sticky sheets adds a such a minimal amount because of the small size of the earrings, that didn't bother me. Happy Crafting! [Tiffany]

Tiffany, ces boucles d'oreilles sont jolies . Mais ... que tu colles le papier d'aluminium avec une feuille de collant double-face est déjà critiquable, mais que tu colles les feuilles de papier craft entre-elles avec ces même feuilles (à base de pétrole..) est anti-écologique puisqu'une simple colle à papier serait tout aussi efficace et bien moins nocive pour la santé de la Terre.

What kills me about this is that you act like its so clever to use 'trash' to make your earrings instead of just throwing it away....But the sticky sheet backings, and scraps create 10x the amount of trash there was to begin with.
