At 3:35 I was wondering "why can't the rook take the bishop?". Then, after thinking about it for a few seconds, I realized that it could not do that because the king was in mortal danger because if rook takes bishop then black queen takes the rook, white queen takes the queen and then black rook takes the queen which is mate.

+IsItHardToBeStupid? even if it wasn't check mate, it's giving queen+rook for queen+bishop, very bad trade.

As a critical move I found 17. Be7. Why doesn't that work? If Qxe7, Qxe7, Rxe7, Rf8 mate, and if Rxe7, Qf7+ into mate. Similar if he moves the queen from the back rank. I assume this doesn't work since mato didnt mention it, I just don't see why. He can avoid mate in a few ways, yes, but in the ones I see he loses his queen.

I too found that move. Maybe... Be6 works as a defence?

+Ricehigh85 if Be7 then dxc3+ and black can push the pawn after white king is forced to H1 because black can play his light square bishop to e6 attacking white's queen; if white plays Be7 at 3:20 he will lose all momentum and position will favor black very quickly

Hi Mato, at 2:55, why isn't Bishop to e7 Winning? If he moves his queen or captures with the rook, White has mate. If he captures with the queen, Qxe7 and White is easily winning

+xxx xxx I just saw Be6 is the counter for black, but after Pxe6 White is still up the bishop

I found Be7 attacking Queen instead of Bf8 - I'm almost certain this wins on the spot - Black must give up either the Queen or the King - if Rook takes Bishop, then Qf8+ - Qxf8 and Rxf8 mate. If Queen takes Bishop on e7, then Queen takes Queen and if Rook takes back on e7, then Rf8 mate. If ..Qd7, then Qf8+ - Rxf8 and then Rxf8 mate!

At move 17, instead to Bf8 isn't it better to play Be7? if Queen takes bishop then queen takes queen and black rook can't take queen because of Rf8 and check mate and if rook takes queen then Qf8.

Does Be7 also work, threatening back rank mate and attacking the queen?

Instead of bishop to f8 , i found bishop to e7 , attacking black's queen . If rook takes bishop on e7 , there is check mate in two . If queen takes bishop on e7 , queen takes queen on e7 ...

+Edacto yeah, but the pawn capture comes with a check so there's no reason to not play it, white can't block from that position so bu rushing Be6 black loses their pawn pushing pressure
