Did black miss a win at 2:14? eXd5 gives a very dangerous passed pawn. White cannot recapture. if Nxd5, Bxd5; Qxd5, Bxh2, winning the queen.
@muckerwood8 жыл бұрын
Far be it for me (us) to question Alekhine about d5 to begin with, but stockfish says Qa4 is a better move than d5 in that position. Having said that, if eXd5 as proposed, I would assume Alekhine would simply continue with Rad1 just as he did in the game. No intent to recapture; passed pawn yes, but also isolated, not very dangerous.

When Mato uploaded many Tal videos, people asked him to show others' games instead.... other players such as Alekhine! But thankfully Mato's Tal videos are still there for you... 😎

kg1 after rook check?
@yggdrasil90398 жыл бұрын
You missed out another line Mato. Why doesn't King just go back to g1 after nabbing the bishop, but instead start running around in the open? If after Bxh2, KxB, Rh6+ Kg1, and if Qc6 then f3, and if Qf7 then g3, both defending against the attack. White is a Bishop up and can start exchanging off the pieces.
@yggdrasil90398 жыл бұрын
This is at Bxh2+ at 3:45. The line I see goes KxB Rh6+, Kg1 Qc6, f3 (or Nd5 perhaps) end of Black attack.
@v.gopalakrishnan3506 жыл бұрын
It doesn't work for if Kg1 then Rh1+, King must capture the rook and then Qh3+ and mate next move!!!
@AFfotography8 жыл бұрын
mato i think black bxh2 is not a winning move coz. it is lose. after white king take bishop on h2 and black rook give a check and how about if white king go back to the dark square on g1.....????
@khalidabuwarda85858 жыл бұрын
then ... Rh1+. Kxh1 Qh3+. Kg1 (pawn is pinned) Qgx2#

I was able to find the winning combination Lerner missed! That he was playing against the giant Alekhine must have unnerved him to lose the game he almost won!
@quantumzz68 жыл бұрын
Just for the record, Lerner would still have been way ahead had he played 24. ... Rxe1+.

@Hallands.8 жыл бұрын
Why?
@Hallands.8 жыл бұрын
I think "who was Lerner"? Alekhine played imprecisely, so can't have respected Lerner much - and with good reason - as this endgame shows...
