Alela is a beautiful songwriter and her talent shines throw this really human, moving and yet not to dramatic piece. Her warm and lingering voice seems to echo many lifes and the way she brings them to us is as vivid and simple. The end chorus get me everytime and I really don't understand how an amazing artist like her is not on top of the charts. It is so sad for the rest of the world not hear that superior folk music

It's the words... the words... the reality of the haunting words in this song is that it happens and boats disappear under the water without anyone having ever known they had attempted the journey and that those tortured people trying to escape to a better life ever existed. Alela Diane your music deserves monumental accolades. When I listen to this I am transported into one of these vessels sitting silently among the people fleeing and I feel their pain and fear. Your lyrics, music and voice is sublime and genius.

When I first heard this song I didn't actually listened to the poetry in it, I was just captivated by the music. Then, I heard carefully. And I started crying, and now I can't help to feel goosebumps all over my skin, and tears flow into my eyes. Seeing this video as a mother myself, I get it, I feel it. All this pain, this infinite sorrow. This song should be heard more, talked about more, it's so important. This is how an artist can express true horror in the most beautiful form possible.

bawling by 1:36. oh to be a mother, holding your child, thinking of what others have gone through just to try and make a better life for theirs.. meanwhile many losing them along the way. so heartbreaking. I love her simple videos.

This song reminds me a little of a Pirate's Gospel melody, but Alela's voice has grown and changed and carries deeper weight than ever before. Familar and new at the same time.

Got lost and stopped listening for many years. Ashamed to sayh how many. For some reason decided to check in. Amazing! I feel that feeling again. Thanks! Subscribed! Where are the old classics though? The Rifle, Pirate's Gospel, ... etc. It's ok. I can still find them elsewhere.

Picturesque and poetic, her song is magically visual and emotional. In a world of shallow lyrics and cheap melodies, it is simply a piece of fine gem. Her company should spend more resource promoting this song. It has great potential to win multiple Grammies next year. 由诗及画 由画至情 神乎其技

Émigré Alela Diane Seabirds fly the salty wind East to South, North to West See us go, as they go, across the borderlines I can feel the fear hang heavy on the water Glinting sharply with the pale moonlight Mothers hold on tightly to your children The waves are breaking violently tonight Seabirds fly the salty wind East to South, North to West Can we go, as they go, across the borderlines? I hear yelling, I hear crying, I hear praying As the ocean threatens us on all four sides The water rises deeper every minute This vessel cannot bear the burden of our load Seabirds fly the salty wind East to South, North to West Can we go, as they go, across the borderlines? One by one the children have grown silent From their mother’s arms, they float away The roaring sea will wash our quiet bodies Upon the foreign shore, but our souls will find a way And with seabirds fly the salty wind East to South, North to West See us go, as they go, across the borderlines Seabirds fly the salty wind East to South, North to West See us go, as they go, across the borderlines Seabirds fly the salty wind East to South, North to West See us go, as they go, across the borderlines Seabirds fly the salty wind East to South, North to West See us go, as they go, across the borderlines Seabirds fly the salty wind East to South, North to West See us go, as they go, across the borderlines Seabirds fly the salty wind East to South, North to West See us go, as they go, across the borderlines

Great song, terrible music video. I hope they only paid the "director" $30 to edit and post a slow-mo iphone video that probably took 15 minutes.
@richardwilson12347 жыл бұрын
I read somewhere that Alela Diane wrote the song after seeing the pictures of a small refugee child, Ayan, washed up on a beach in Turkey. Although it may not be the best video in the world it does make you think about holding your own children closer when you see something like that happening to an innocent child, so to me there is context in the video.

Bob I’m not surprised that you understand nothing. Only the gentle human beings (regardless their biological sex or gender) could able to get the idea of the video and could link the women’s concern in that video. I’m glad there are lots of people around and understand all the values like care, beauty, gentleness and the all other emotion cocktails can be felt at the same time: fear&courage&sadness&hope&sorrow&joy. It’s a great cocktail. I hope one day you also try this cocktail too. Actually it’s at the tip of your nose bit you can’t see it cuz nowadays you probably think that this is way too simple and boring. Sorry for you. You need perspective asap 😕
