She didn’t want to pay for it out of her windfall, so she and her partner opted for Medicare Advantage plans.I wished them good luck with that! Hey Doc, you mentioned at the end of the video, last question a minute or so from the end of the recording, that you would post something about getting survivor benefits for a divorced spouse when they just learned of the death of their former husband which may have happened a year or two ago. I happen to have a family member in just that exact situation, and she called to talk to SSA last week, and they set her up an appointment for a few weeks from now. She is over 70+ and has been collecting on her own benefit for all these years not knowing she may have been entitled to Divorced Spouse Benefits. She was married for more than 10 years to her spouse, but divorced 15-20 years ago and is not married at this time. When she goes in for her meeting with SSA, it would be nice for her to have the POMS Chapter and Verse in hand dealing with possibly getting back pay for all the months that she was unaware that she could have collected either IEDS or Widow's benefits. I sure would like to provide this info to her before her meeting with SSA. Thanks again for all you do! Hopefully you can respond to this request. I'll be watching 😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫

The BIG thing for people to NOTE about the $2000 max out-of-pocket (moop) is that means for ONLY prescription meds that are covered by that Plan's DRUG FORMULARY. So if one has to take a med that is NOT on the formulary then the $2000 moop will NOT apply. However, most formularies will usually cover a similar drug that would be covered. Also there are ways to appeal for a drug not on the formulary but I don't know how successful that process is. Just want all to know that if your physician prescribes a med to treat a rare or uncommon situation, one should probably check with their chosen D plan to see if it is on their Drug Formulary.

@@mdeloache2023 Understood. That would benefit the insurance company but I’m reading that Advantage plans actually cost the government 6% (or 27 billion) more than original Medicare. I’m still not understanding the logic.

@@teametal11Insurance companies lobby and finance politicians which sets up a smokescreen that allows for funds to shift from healthcare to administrative cost and private profits at the expense of patients and healthcare providers. Logical for profiteers.

One reason to default tp a medicare advantage plan is they pay some of the 20% copay of Medicare A & B. Advantage plans are not monopolistic yet. Also, prior authorization reduces waste fraud and abuse compared to Medicare. I know medical bankruptcy is a leading cause of bankruptcy for the elderly. Maybe having an advantage plan with low premiums and a reasonable Max out of pocket would help.

I have medical insurance as part of my retirement plan for 30 years with SoCal Edison. I have a Medicare advantage plan the feeds into this Kaiser plan. Will these changes affect my coverage?

😂😂😂👍 I have adult children so I do understand. Amen to that!😵💫😂 🤔 I feel that Medicare should be available to everyone who receives Social Security retirement, at whatever age they retire. What’s with this? You have to wait until you’re 65? That’s just the number someone put in place. And it’s unfair for people that retire and collect Social Security retirement that they should be entitled to that when they’re entitled to Social Security retirement at whatever age they retire at! That needs to change.

Big difference in PPO and HMO. I was completely happy with the Advantage PPO, I could see any doctor with no copay whether in or out of network. But they messed that up completely by reducing the benefits! Now I am forced to have an Advantage HMO, in network only benefits.

I wonder when government will wake up and also see that seniors need Free Dental, Free Eye care and Free Ear care, it’s like they’re being punished for getting old and there’s no coverage for the main areas of aging, after all those years of work got pretty much -0- care on these areas not to mention that there is still a charge to use Medicare and only covers 80%, welcome to expensive retirement

Full retirement age is 67. If you take it before your FRA, you take it at a reduced benefit permanently. So that is something to consider.

I decided to leave Medicare Advantage and go with Original Medicare with a supplement/Part D. My main reason to change is, I moved out of state to be closer to my children after my husband died. Dealing with grief was bad enough, plus the added stress of having very limited healthcare coverage was a huge nightmare. I basically had medical and increased copays. No vision and no dental as that was a “State thing”. My 2025 coverages on the MAPlan I am leaving is changing too…less or different coverages. Now, I am concerned that I may be about to make a mistake in leaving my current MAPlan. I do not appreciate the delay and lack of truthful and solid information coming out from this incoming administration.

I live in GA and my representatives are all trump “yes” men. They could care less about what their constituents want with regard to either Social Security or Medicare. If trump wants it, that is what they will support, period. The Georgians who voted for trump will be shocked when they lose their benefits, but they won’t blame trump. Somehow they will come up with a reason to blame President Biden.
