To those who say that Ukraine is "always sad" or "the same", please check Ukraine's recent performances: 2018- Melovin - Under the ladder; 2021: Go-A - Shum (a stunning upbeat performance about Ukrainian ancient spring welcoming ritual); 2022: Kalush - Stephania (an upbeat performance with a song about mothers); 2023: Tvorchi - Steel of heart. Here, the main song's message: all the divines were born as human beings, so it's up to individuals how they walk their path, up to sainthood. The style of Ukraine's representatives is also different with each performer. Where is the "sad" and "the same"? 🙂 Last year most critics "complains" were about lacking Ukrainian folklore in the r'n'b Tvorchi's song. :) The only constant about Ukraine's performances at Eurovision is that they are ALWAYS creative, unpredictable, and different each year. :)

Last year, a live concert took place at the "Maidan Nezalezhnosti" underground metro station. In Vidbir-2023 video you could even hear the sounds of trains with passengers, although trains have not stopped at this station since the beginning of the war on February 24 (because this station is located under the government quarter). The selection live took place on December 17, 2022. Only after that, on December 20, 2022, the station was returned to passenger traffic. Therefore, Vidbir could not be held there again this year. But there are no any concert bomb shelters in Kyiv. Hardly anywhere in the world someone built concert halls underground. Therefore, it was necessary to hold a concert above ground. And it is impossible to conduct a live broadcast in the conditions of war. Not only because of the security problem of shelling (which is why the europeans did not want to host the Eurovision Song Contest in 2023 in Ukraine). There are even formal restrictions. As soon as fighter plane with ballistic weapons take off in Russia, an air alert is declared in Ukraine and many things stop automatically: movies in cinemas are turned off, bank branches are closed, doctors stop consulting patients, concerts are stopped. It could disrupted the live broadcast on Saturday. Therefore, they decided to record the live broadcast: to record the concert on Friday, and in the case of an air alarm on Friday, cut out these conditional 1.5 hours, when everyone must go down to the shelter, and show a complete video on Saturday. After it the vote should had be announced in real time. And counting of votes would already be done online from a small bomb shelter. It was not publicly announced that Vidbir show was secretly moved back on one day. The audience in the concert hall now said that everyone who was at the Vidbir on Friday signed a non-disclosure agreement, which prohibited them from announcing the location of the Vidbir until the end of the recording. But this was already done because not only of the threat of disrupting the recording, but in order to reduce war risks to zero, because a ballistic missile from Russia flies to Kyiv in 5 minutes. And national broadcaster didn't want to check whether the fucking Russians will want to do something very Russian that day.

The televoting results are AMAZING - 61.97%, 723,297 votes, which is EIGHT TIMES MORE than 2nd place YAKTAK (9.19% 107,227 votes). In addition, I want to say that Jerry Heil, and many of the other Vidbir contestants, had a problem with their headphones, which can be seen right from the beginning of the performance that Jerry took off her headphone and sang with only one. This is song is great and it does deserve to win it’s one of the only songs that has the full package but I don’t see people wanting Ukraine to win again so soon after they just won two years ago ….. it’s a shame but it is what it is. Plus finally after Jerry was robbed last year of going to Eurovision I’m so happy she can finally get her chance it’s a shame that she will more than likely be robbed of a Eurovision win due to people probably not wanting another ukriane victory

Definitely interesting, it's mixing both, modern elements and ethnic sounds. And while I don't think, this is gonna win, it's definitely gonna qualify. And Finland sending another female rapper wouldn't change this, I think, both songs are different enough, so that both of them are gonna stand out. Still hasn't hit for me the way it has for others, but I can objectively see it as a good song without that hit. I wouldn't be surprised if it won, but right now I'd feel safer saying it's a clear top 10 in May as things stand right now. Obviously still have 26 entries to go. I think I would prefer someone different to win, and for a country who can host it to win it too... though if Ukraine win again, then they win. We'll see in May. I would like to see a different stage show for this - I didn't like the backgrounds, and thought they were both too dark, too.

The staging needs an improvement. I would suggest have four more women on stage like in Jerry Heil performance last year. After the first chorus, in the "eya eyaeya" part i would show a camera plan where we can see the audience clapping, and then, just after that we start seeing alyona. Also, with the four women, then in the chorus after alyona's rap, they all should start moving/walking fast in different directions (my reference for this is on Rigoberta Bandini performance in Benidorm Fest 22 in the second chorus). The LEDs for me are just great. Also we need the backing vocals to be stronger and specially in the last chorus. These were my suggestions. Hope Ukraine does well.

Ukraine always have great staging in the esc. It will not be like this at all. Its a beautiful song - following the same pattern as Kalush Stefania. A melodic chorus with a rap. Kind of repeat actually. Jamala said it was a religious song. In 2022 the juries didnt have Kalush as the winner did they? Number 7 if Im not all wrong.

What do you feel about the lyrical content? I love this entry. Currently my #2 and I don't see any songs knocking it down from there, but that being said, the lyrical content is irking me a bit. I so desperately wish that they wouldn't focus on mother Theresa as a "diva" or saint. Mother Theresa is a very controversial figure that has done a lot of awful things. It is starting to sour this entry a bit for me.

Don't like the rap in it, plus the main vocal was off, I preferred Alesia's vocals more lol. Was it flawless?! It didn't sound like it to me. There was an issue with the sound ig, she seemed to struggle with the ear piece, but it's the first time I listen to the song and I do like the melody and the mama Teresa theme and the female figure in the background. That may grow on me.

"Far too monotonous" with all the variety of styles and layers in the arrangement? 🙂 Melovin's song is so generic, Euro-cliche, has no character (could have been from any country), and feels dated (back to 2010s). He got THE SAME placing (3#) both from the jury and public, so it's fair. And Melovin has used his chance already. One 17th place is more than enough.
