Thanks for the detailed review! I just wanted to add that the V midi editor allows you to change pad notes and you can map them chromatically. Also you can send pads to the 2nd midi channel to play different instruments with keys and pads simultaneously. You can change velocity curves of pads and keys and map faders to any CC you want. I mapped the first fader to modulation and it works like a charm. You can change pitch bend and modulation buttons range and speed as well. Though the keys are a bit tight and not as comfortable to play compared to other mini keyboards, the selling point there is really the size to functionality ratio.

First time seeing you, man! Good stuff! I’ve been using this mini MIDI keyboard for a couple of years now and I love the simplicity of it. Hell of a learning curve but once you get it, you get it. I don’t make beats but I do all kinds of music. This is a reference tool for me and I think most MIDI keyboards/controllers are but this works well for my Punk and Metal music. I like that you don’t have to have the drums just on the drum pads but rather, the whole keyboard is your canvas. I haven’t needed to use the knobs just yet but one day, I might mess around with them. For the low price, it’s all I need.

The next keyboard you should review is either the Donner 25 Key Midi Keyboard, or the Worlde Panda Mini Midi Keyboard. Both in that 25 key range, and I rarely see anyone use them! I personally dont own them but when I was on the search for a keyboard these crossed my path. Btw, Great video! Edit: there's also the m audio oxygen 25 key! Edit 2: I am just now seeing that the people who made the Panda mini have also made the Orca Mini Midi keyboard. Seems relatively new, and based off design looks like it would compete with the launchkey mini. Most likely not in software though.

I know this video is 5mo old, but the reason the pads are like that on the VMini is because all other MIDI controllers are laid out wrong. If you've ever used a hardware synth, vintage hardware, hardware drum machine, or even the preset kits in any DAW that is the proper default arrangement for GM midi kick, snare, hat closed, hat open. Have a look in an Ableton default drum rack. Otherwise, informative video. Thanks.
@P.R.E.S.S.3 жыл бұрын
Also, AIR XPand 2 is a powerful synth. It's included with ProTools and has been used on a metric ton of Platinum albums. You've heard it on Rhianna, Kali Uchis, Kanye, Bad Bunny, Calvin Harris, MIA, Drake, Kid Cudi, Lil John, Weezy, Gambino, Post Malone...

Those bendy plastic style keyboards tend to only last 1-2 years before a key snaps off, while a proper sprung keyboard (even a cheap mini version) can last a lot longer. I think for keybeds, the Minilab Mk 2 is at the top, closely followed by the MPK Mk3. It's worth spending a bit more money for one of those.
