I would call the cover The Warning did, after they already did a cover true to the original song 7 years ago, a deconstruction of the original song, they go building the song adding elements and parts from the original mixing the elements in their own way, reconstructing it in a very particular and unique way, their way. And yes, making it theirs! Now, there’s also another reason for that progression, bo build up the song: to incorporate Alessia Cara going from a more pop sound to actually become a The Warning sound style. About the guitar solo: it’s well known Dany can do it easily, she did since she was 14, so it would be redundant, they would be repeating themselves doing a solo, besides the fact that guitar solos are now something out of fashion, something many bands don’t do it anymore. And The Warning do, but in this case, since they’ve done it, why to repeat it when they were supposed to create a completely different version of this song? 😁 Now, about the arrangement, yes, there’s some additional credit for that, as part of the team that most be behind the whole production, BUT yes, also The Warning is already well known for being completely committed to their sound, the way their music must be (The producer of their upcoming album already said that, that being somebody with a long trajectory and working with so many bands, yes, the girls from The Warning take advised, BUT NOTHING that could not be something that could take them away from how they want to sound, so yes, there most be elements brought by the other credits for this song, but I bet it’s at least 85% their arrangements and ideas!

The "Warning style" is the result of the three girls rehearsing together every day and literally fighting over the details of their arrangements. As they are all very talented, none of them is content with just accompanying the others. Each of them gets a moment to shine. And they manage to do this without overloading their songs. So it's always the result of a team effort rather than a single person telling each band member what to play.

I love how they don't go in when everyone else does. Everywhere. Everything is unexpected, and they know how to pull it off. Yeah, Metallica nailed it in their time, but this isn't their time anymore. It's someone else's time, and this band Carpe'd all the Diems. They definitely made a song their own without changing the message one bit. It hits as hard as the Black Album release did, and it hits NOW.

OSN, this reaction is great. Thank you. My thoughts from a uneducated layman fan’s perspective: What makes this so genius to me is the way they capture the spirit of the song with a far more subtle, quietly sinister vibe that slowly builds. This works in two ways: 1. It provides a singer-songwriter like Alessia Cara a gateway to contribute her style, without sacrificing intensity. 2. It gives The Warning a TON of room to do what they do best: creative dynamic changes within a relatively simple structure. Bring it up, bring it down. Tickle you with a feather, crack you upside the head with a sledgehammer, all within the confines of 4 minutes or less. Thematically, it actually makes more sense than the original. When we go to bed, we’re alone with our thoughts. There’s nothing to distract us from our dark imaginings creeping in…and that fear of the dark we all had as children isn’t loud at all. It’s the quiet that makes it that much more unsettling. That’s why that slow build with those vocal harmonies works so well.

Not just another cover. This is part of the Metallica Blacklist album project. Alessia Cara is a Canadian grammy award winning pop singer. She was asked to do a cover. Her management team also manages The Warning. They recommended a collaboration to her and Metallica. They collaborated remotely. Metallica asked them not to do another cover. Do something different, do it backwards if you want. Shot in an abandoned textile mill outside Monterrey, Mexico. They arranged the song, recorded it and the video all in a week.
@SergioSBloch Жыл бұрын
I was wondering how the Cara / The Warning colab came about as it didn't seem like there were any intersecting lines between Alesia and the three sisters. a Canadian pop singer and a Mexican Sister Trio... but it worked out great and the vocal contrasts are very nice together. Travel restrictions during Covid prevented the in-person appearance of Alesia in the video. I've seen Alesia sing at the Junos (Canadian version of the Grammys) and she is very tallented - sometimes I think she is a little under-rated in her career - she should do more Metal!!
@tobimobiv1 Жыл бұрын
@@SergioSBloch Probably for the better. I like how they're not together but "they're together" in the video, and projecting her gives her kind of an otherworldly elverish presence. I don't know if that makes any sense to anyone but me. But I like the visual better than I think I would have if she had actually been there in person with them.

A very interesting breakdown which I totally enjoyed. They did a great job with this considering from getting the call to do this and finishing the recording was around a week. Paulina is often the initial creative force when they write songs but all 3 get involved in the writing and arranging. In this case I think the producer Matt Squire was also part of the creative process. The final mixing was done by David Bendeth who produced the tracks on the new album. I am not sure how much Alessia was involved in the creative process but I expect had some input as a grammy winning singer and song writer. She recorded her parts in Canada linked to Matt Squire's computer at the recording studio in Monterrey where the Warning recorded their parts. She also filmed her parts for the video in Canada. The video was directed, as was Evolve,by their manager Rudy Joffroy who is also a film producer and director. It was edited by Gabo Ramos who directed the Choke video.

I really love this cover because they have managed to make sort of a new song and this new song was great without any "damage" to the original. And the fact that they have put that iconic Enter Sandman heavy riff in the very end is also a great creative approach. Because it assures us - yes - we did THIS song and we CAN play this riff, but we wanted to do something unusual. And we do LOVE the original riff but if we were replicating it through the whole composition it might have make you bored... I love this clip and I like the melodies they assembled within.

Same there, the drums are equally important for the song than the melody, the vocals or the leadguitar! They are a real trio, not just a rhythm section with a guitar… Metallica wanted new versions, that’s why they contacted Alessia, not Anthrax or Slayer… and they delivered something new! Dude. I love the way you broke this down and explained everything. I loved their rendition and I do have it on my playlist along with everything else. They are such an amazing trio. So good. All 3 are savages in their own way.

Acho que tecnicamente, tudo foi explicado. Nem todos percebem as nuances e detalhes de uma música como você. O que TW faz, é no mínimo cativante e algo novo Rock.

Noting that they started where Metallica left off is a fucking BRILLIANT observation and a point that I missed hearing this song a few times. Bravo Sir, Bravo. Also, since I last texted you, me, my wife, and all my daughters are fully recovered from COVID. My son never got it, the lucky little shit. 🙂

Great reaction. Thank you. As an FYI in case you don't know they write all their own songs. No one else interferes with what they write.

They did the arrangement in 1 week and then recorded it the following week. Alessia and The Warning were in different studio.

Can't believe this guy haven't reacted to Queen of the Murder Scene yet. This is what reaction videos should be like.

The Warning write their own songs and arrangements. From what I understand, this was mostly Paulina's arrangement. I believe David Bendeth mixed it and he typically has his own suggestions on how things should be. Someone who knows how this came to be may have some more accurate information but this is what I understand made this what it is.

Full credit list are in info box under the official video. The Warning and Matt Squire (who produced) are credited for the arrangement, with additional help from Pablo (the bands old mentor). Bendeth did the mixing, Alessia are only credited for vocal. Everything done in less than a week from being asked, 3 days used in the studio.

Regarding the arrangement of the songs and their unique nature...a lot of their songs begin with Pau at the piano. She takes the ideas to her sisters and they work on them together. So far, so standard, right? Well, no. Together in this case means together. For all parts. They work on the guitar parts together, even on Dany's solos...all three of them work on the bass parts and usually last of all, they all work on the drum parts together. I think it is this that means that the parts do not come together to make a whole...the parts are the whole. Everything is arranged in the writing process itself. It's what makes them so much a band and not a collection of individual song writers. And also why they were so resistant to outside influence. Kudos to David Bendeth for finding a way to synch with them. I suppose their method is also the reason why they can give so much of themselves to the song writing process and yet remain so selfless. No egos at all. Everything is written and designed for each song and is subservient to the song. These girls are indeed, very special. And so is their music.

Great reaction. I don't care how long the video is. I know if it's a long one, you got inspired and are dropping some knowledge, so that is always fun. As far as power trios go, I think the best comparison for the Warning, is Triumph.

Great reaction bro. Thoroughly enjoyed the whole video. Alessia did a great job on the vocals and thanks to Alessia that the girls got this great opp. However when Dany took over the vocals I literally got goosebumps. She is a different kind of beast and Dany doesn’t need a solo to show off. She has such a powerful voice. Dany is the best front woman ever in my opinion. You are right, it’s a rendition/reimagination 🤟

Alessia Cara is a pop singer from Canada, and is actually more well known than The Warning. She is signed with Def Jam Records and The Warning is signed with Lava Records. Both labels are part of Universal Music Group, which I believe is how they were paired together. Metallica was looking for different genres to produce covers for their 30th anniversary Blacklist album. According to Dany, The Warning ladies were allowed to put their own arrangement together. Matt Squire then came down to Mexico for a week of rehearsals and recording at a local studio. Alessia did her part from Canada and Matt brought it in on his computer. The mixing was done by David Bendeth, who produced their third album. The video was put together by their manager Rudy Joffroy and their dad Luis.

I'll say Alessia Cara is more well known. She has 4.15M subscribers on KZbin, and she has videos with 451M views, 265M views, and 206M views. The Warning can't touch that -- yet.

So the Warning did all the work and Cara put her name on it. No wonder I think this is a great arrangement with a mediocre vocal.

Thank you. There are many reactions to this version of the song, many very shallow in not recognizing the immense talent and creativity involved in this re-interpretation. Your reaction is absolutely the best: you broke it down in terms of the rearrangement, music theory, and the impressive construction of, for all intents and purposes, a new song with a respectful and classy homage to the original. I hope many others realize that you understand music are a true musician. This cannot be said of many of the others who ply the youtube reaction gig.

Whether you would upload a reaction for it or not I recommend going through the entire Queen of the Murder Scene album (in order) which is a concept album. It definitely showcases their songwriting genius. A reaction to the whole album would be cool though
